MT worked in IAD Confidential before his stint as 007 admin sgt. Ask him how many investigations he closed? How many investigations were actually assigned to this moron? How many investigations did he “supervise”?
Never met the guy but this might actually help the poor schmuck when it comes to earning the respect of the troops. Admitting to not knowing something takes some balls. Don't be afraid to ask- there's nothing wrong with asking. The worst are the ones who ridicule their subordinates and act like they are some high IQ geniuses themselves, not many that I came across who act this way but we sure have them-merit and score. Inspectors got 25 SPAR’s today on 1 Homan team, 1 area team and 2 TAC teams and a detective during 2nd watch

The FOP will never demand it because they do the exact same thing the Department does. John brought his girlfriend up as a field rep. The members now have to give her Captains when she has spent her career in an inside, connected spot, had not gone to FOP meetings, served on an FOP committee or even volunteered for an FOP event. So now we have someone completely unqualified responding to our officer involved incidents. Someone who doesn't know our contract, officer bill of rights, or even how to conduct a basic investigation. The unions don't say anything because they take "earned not given," about as seriously as the Carters did.
This dipshit has the writing skill of a 4th grade CPS student. If you want a chuckle read some of his reports that he wrote when he was in IAD. You probably won’t find too many. Tools like him are purposely placed in IAD to fuck things up. Someone like him doesn’t have to try to hide or cover up anything, their ignorance gets the job done.
What would you rather have, this guy who tells you He doesn’t know the difference between a Misc card and a curfew slip.
Or, the guy who went to narcotics just off probation, who went back to narcotics after making Sergeant, and back to narcotics after making Lieutenant. But through divine intervention knew everything about everything after he became a district commander.

I’ve seen both. I could work with the guy who was honest enough to admit he had no knowledge of patrol. He could be guided and advised and do the right thing.

It’s Mike Tate and his Lt merit sponsor was Snelling. He was given Lt promotion last July and was immediately assigned to Narcotics (hilarious). He never worked one day as a Lt in a district. He got this BS assignment along with Courts ( now the Commander of 007) and Altamarano ( Tirado s brother in law). All never touched a district and they expect us to have any respect for them. This is why this unit is so fucked up and no one from top to bottom knows what they are doing.

If Snelling wants to have any respect from the troops he needs to demote all the exempts Carter made towards the end. Branch, Tate, Courts, Phillips, Watson need to be demoted. All were merit Lts and never worked dist and promoted to Commander within months. They should be ashamed of themselves and NO ONE has any respect for you.
He is at least minimally aware of his incompetence. That is the first step towards actual learning. Even if he is truly honest and committed to learning, he is going to make mistakes, lots and lots of mistakes. How many officers and civilians will pay with blood for those mistakes is not known at this time.
Don't know who the commander is but give that person credit for being honest. I do agree it's a deservice to the district. As a former blue shirt I budded heads with too many stupidvisors who tried to tell me how the job should be done but I always pushed back. It was an ego thing for me. I'm glad I'm out, I learned how to hate the job, well STUPIVISORS taught me how to.

In this day and age there’s gotta be 20 plus unnecessary brass potions and they truly do NOTHING.

1. There is something to be said for the person who admits their incompetence; at least they aren't trying to hide it. Hopefully he has good underlings who can actually run the show on a day-to-day basis. (this doesn't fix the "big pension for doing nothing" issue, but we take what we can get in these things). I suffered as a suburban 911 dispatcher/clerk under some sworn bosses who knew nothing about communications and records and tried to hide it, with the expected results of cluster f--ks on a regular basis. And of course the dispatchers were blamed for it. If you tried to teach them it was exhausting because you had to start from the beginning of any topic to make sure they had some idea why I was disturbing their existence with actual work.
2. The FOP should be pushing to do away with merit promotions entirely, except maybe for some kind of "field merit" promotions, where you get Sgt. stripes based on actual police work (battlefield commission-type system). But I'm sure the pols would find some way to louse this up. And real street coppers might not want the promotion to babysitting the less-skilled on their shift/watch.

I find it amusing that some officers defend a merit promotee because they know them or worked for them and they find them just great people and better then some who made it on a test. That is an outstanding statement about just one or two people. But, what they should be saying is how outraged they are about a corrupt promotion system with no criteria or standards except to be well liked or have some powerful person backing you. That hurts many competent people and keeps them from a promotion. It is a system that is unfair to the vast majority and puts a lot of really dumb and incompetent entitled people in a leadership position. The entire system needs to be reformed but never will be in the corrupt political atmosphere of Chicago. We had a civil service system at one time to root out corruption. The politicians found a way around it and continue to do so. Think about it the next time you buy an expensive ticket to some merit's promotion or retirement party.
For that to change they would have to change the constitution which could possibly change everything

Folks, connected merit promotion’s are only going to get much much worse. Snelling has been on the job for roughly 27-28 years. Been in the academy for many of those years. The amount of close friends he’s developed over that time is astronomical. The people and friends of the people that took care of him will also not be forgotten. This is why it’s very very bad to promote a long time insider. This is Chicago. In a normal city it may not be a problem but not in a place like Chicago. Not saying this will happen but history says there’s a good chance. Chicago needs outsiders at the top. Sad but true.

Agreed but there’s a lot more than 20. The overlap and redundancy is unbelievable! The amount of Deputy Chiefs and commanders all doing the same thing would make an organizational consulting company’s head spin. Captains and Commanders sitting in the same office doing the same thing also. How about all commanders report directly to the Chief? No need for Deputy Chief. Consolidate or eliminate all these BS weird obscure units that no really knows what they do or why we have them. The waste is unreal! Do this and you will save the city big $ and also on gold braid pensions. Also get rid of all the take home cars. Drive to work in your own car. No mayor ever does this most simple thing to save money.

If your a Sgt in 189, 70-75 percent of the Sgt’s there were merit Sgt’s. Glad you were a “test score Sgt.”

They both promoted or made sure the friends and family plan was going strong, regardless of the competency of the friend or family member. Fuck'em both.

Hey inspectors, go look into the caps or commanders office to find all the ghost payrollers, leave the working coppers alone. Come in late, 2 hour lunch and leave early. Whenever these bosses got roasted at compstat they would come to roll call crying about activity and making threats. There are cases of mover and parker books in the supply room, send out your best and brightest to hit the quota, you know all the desk bunnies who have never locked anyone up or gone to court.
Tate along with all the other merits from the first Lt class have all been made except 1 or 2 just a matter of time. Once they are done with there 2-3 command schools.
So they are promoted the top 50 on Lt list and not one has been promoted from the list. It’s been all merit made exempts. But why do you need 2 years at rank for captain but weeks or days for exempt?

Ahhhh, hold on for a second MT was a Tact Sgt. on the 662 Team back in 2015 and 2016, he is very competent from my recollection and he does know his job. Easy boys and girls, if you didn’t spend anytime in the “hood” busting bad guys and incarcerating them, then you really do not have any place berating this guy. He did his job very well and was there for his officers.

This attitude is the MT decision making or job knowledge will invariably get someone fired sued or hurt. If lack the knowledge and ability to make supervisor decisions what is he being paid for. All these merit promotions and test cheats are thieves plan and simple should not be respected because some decides to pay them more money. Make merit promotions take the pay consistent with the highest rank they achieved if they want the job

Okay, so how about let's just say we hate cheaters and scammers of the system, no matter how they do it.
Good for him for being honest and in today's policing world it pretty much works out because officers shouldn't be sticking their neck out to get the job done. Makes it too easy for them to chop off your head if idiots within the department or mayors office find it advantageous for political purposes. Having a good boss means they take care of the troops AND have the experience and brains to help you when things aren't 'perfect' or it goes sideways. These days it doesn't matter. Answer the radio and drop paper ...if you on view the innocent in trouble of course step in. No extras, don't try too hard because that's what will get you jammed up.

I just looked it up. $106 K was the max pension in 2011 but that increases yearly in accordance with the consumer price index. I didn't see anything about rank in there. So say it increased 2% per year since then, that would make it in the area of $126K. That's still pretty high.

The members now have to give her Captains when she has spent her career in an inside, connected spot, had not gone to FOP meetings, served on an FOP committee or even volunteered for an FOP event. So now we have someone completely unqualified responding to our officer involved incidents. Someone who doesn't know our contract, officer bill of rights, or even how to conduct a basic investigation. The unions don't say anything because they take "earned not given," about as seriously as the Carters did.

He loved the D unit so much that no other coppers mattered that weren’t connected to the detective division. He also promoted absolute drunks that had no business still being on the job. He double and triple promoted some of these fools to the rank of captain. Now we all know that you can’t make captain without some higher powers in the city (politics) but even that technicality wasn’t needed with Cline. And his son’s tact team all being promoted off of their phenomenal test scores was the biggest FU to us working folk. He showed EC how to get away with it. History lesson over.

You can’t lead if you are blind to the job. Branch, Tate, Courts, Phillips, Watson need to be demoted.
All were merit Lts and never worked dist and promoted to Commander within months.

It’s Mike Tate and his Lt merit sponsor was Snelling. He was given Lt promotion last July and was immediately assigned to Narcotics (hilarious). He never worked one day as a Lt in a district. He got this BS assignment along with Courts ( now the Commander of 007) and Altamarano ( Tirado s brother in law). All never touched a district and they expect us to have any respect for them. This is why this unit is so fucked up and no one from top to bottom knows what they are doing.
First of all you’re not even spelling LT A’s name right .
Secondly ; you couldn’t be more wrong . He is probably the only one in 189 that knows what he’s doing and has complete respect from any 9161 that I know.

I would have been eaten alive had I said anything about that. I can tell you that when I dared question John's decision, I was told, "You don't have to like my decision, but you do have to respect it. "Then John threatened to bring me up on charges and have me thrown out of the union. This is after years of dedicating my own time, money, and resources to this organization. I was asked by JC to run for public office, and I politely declined the first ten times he asked. I finally agreed because I was convinced it was for the greater good (which I still believe it was). My family sacrificed a lot during that election. My husband even went against his own union (CFD) to stand in solidarity with us.
When a judge put the gag order on John during the COVID mandates, I uncovered the connection between her and Lightfoot, pointing out the conflict of interest. I submitted numerous FOIA requests when asked, helped organized lunch with the Easter Bunny, and Breakfast with Santa when asked; hell, I was even Mrs. Clause. But the second I questioned King John's decision to not provide the members with the most competent and qualified representation during officer involved incidents, I was threatened and mocked, even told that I needed EAP. Yes, one of the board members mocked me and told me I was crazy and needed EAP. This is interesting, especially since these people claim they care about officer mental health but then use EAP as an insult.
JC is on some kind of insane power trip, and anyone in his circle that does not tell him how great he is will be told they need EAP and threatened to be thrown out of the union. JC has become nothing more than another Lightfoot. He cannot be questioned and is the smartest person in the room. Anyone who attempts to tell him any different will be mocked and threatened. John is convinced he is doing a great job, but we still have no contract, no COLA, and the working conditions in the districts resemble that of a homeless encampment. But don't worry, JC will keep us updated on how great he is in his next video from his latest vacation destination.

Why do we still have a tier 2 class and pension. CFD just had theirs eliminated in one bill and the second bill to take the age restriction away from the COLA. Last I heard ours is 1966

Deenihan is gone now thankfully! He was a silent killer cancer, the worst form. He ruined the D-Unit by allowing merit white shirts that were never detectives. He was too weak to stand up, even as Chief. He was too worried about being liked.
