Not here of course. Illinois politicians haven't had an original idea in decades:
A California Bay Area county supervisor, frustrated by rising retail theft in the area, admitted that state laws were "not working" to deter criminals, as he announced a new proposal to crack down on crime.
San Mateo County Supervisor David Canepa on Tuesday told reporters he would propose a task force at the next Board of Supervisors meeting to address a wave of retail theft in the county. He also wants state lawmakers to toughen laws to lower the dollar figure when shoplifting becomes a felony, NBC Bay Area reported.
"Enough is enough! All this retail theft. All this sort of crime. Enough is enough. We really need to look at state laws. What we have in place right now is not working," Canepa stated. "We can't go on like this."
The Democrat admitted he regretted supporting California's Prop 47, which voters passed in 2014. Prop 47 downgraded certain thefts and drug possession crimes from a felony to a misdemeanor if the value of the stolen goods was less than $950.
Of course, this is a political stance as California voters are belatedly realizing that the democrats lied to them and the massive upsurge in crime is directly related to democrat policies. So now, democrats are saying that they have some magical insight that was hidden from them last time around, so now only they can fix the problem that they created.
And morons will vote for this again....in California and elsewhere.

The criminals realized that the rich folks and their neighborhoods are only a short stolen car ride away from their unpoliced neighborhoods, and the criminals are taking advantage of it. Look at the crime in the Loop.
Now the rich liberal politicians are starting to realize it too.
A food truck has been in business for a long time, parked on Archer, near the El Guero grocery store at 40th and Archer.
Now there is also a makeshift restaurant with a Venezuelan flag, underneath a portable canopy, on the El Guero parking lot. A U-Haul truck parked on the side street serves as the single wall of the makeshift restaurant.
But wait, there's more! A table outside the grocery store entrance, selling corn and fruit.
No doubt this is all legit with the proper permits /sarc. Soon enough the makeshift restaurant will not need to worry about refrigeration.

State laws may not work, but hundreds of skunks being let loose at night would work just fine. Those little nocturnal less lethal critters would come in handy!

If I was a Repub, I would be calling the Dems the Pro-Crime Party as often as I could. It's an attack line that has proven to work in the past at many levels. Instead, Repubs are off in the weeds talking about Hunter Biden, transvestites, wokeness and Covid camps.
At this point, I pray that states like California and Illinois continue to decriminalize crime. It draws undesirables from the rest of the country. Especially deep red states like the one I now live in.

And, in Cook County, many laws are just not enforced, no arrests and no consequences. But, the liberal elected officials do not have the courage to go to Springfield and get the laws that they do not like taken off of the books.
If the voters in California approved Prop. 47 and voted for it then fuck ‘em. They got what they wanted. And deserve.
Just a thought. Perhaps up the "security" at interested retail shops, with a couple of returned Veterans with a CIB at each entrance/exit with a Mossberg 500, extended magazine and #4 buck in thw side sadlle across their lap. It just might give the "Gathered Youths" time to reconsider their life choices?

My "sympathy meter" broke a few years ago. The people are getting exactly what they voted for, good and hard. But keep checking that "D" box and wonder why your 11 year old caught a slug at the playground last week.

I second that. Stupid and sick stuff starts out there and gravitates to the rest of the country. The ones that voted for it all deserve what they get. But I hate to see children get even more messed up by all their sick and stupid policies. It's not their fault they've got idiot demoncrat parents.

I disagree with the premise that it's the new law that's bad. In Texas shoplifting becomes a felony at $2,500 (that's twenty five hundred dollars). It's $3K in Florida. Yet we are not hearing retailers there wailing and closing up shops all over Houston or Miami. That's because it's not the laws that are broken in California, it's the system of enforcing them. Broken out sheer stupidity.

Wrong about Florida. It becomes a higher felony over $3000 but can be a felony over $400 or depending how many items total were taken. $2500 is true for Texas but they actually punish their misdemeanors. Also, if it's their 3rd time or more amount doesn't matter
I’ve got in-laws that live in Glenview. They think that all of the white people left the City are racists. They just don’t understand why we’re not accepting of the migrants who want nothing but to improve their stations in life. Also, why are we looking to put shoplifters in jail? If the schools were better people wouldn’t have to steal.
I can’t wait for a few shoplifting crews start hitting The Glenn or Mayor BJ sending a few bus loads of these poor migrants up north. Glenbrook South is a great facility with plush grounds and looks like it easily could accommodate 300/400 ESL
Not wishing anything bad on the Glenview Police who all seem like fine people but their Pulic Safety facility could easily handle a couple of hundred campers for the winter.
Since the Governor is so proud of Illinois as welcoming place maybe he should start making arrangements to share the wealth.
