COPA Pursuit Policy?
We had no idea:
- anyone in 010 know about the female copa investigator that was involved in a vehicle pursuit of shoplifting kids recently? She chased them and admitted it to a sergeant and id’d herself as a copa investigator. So we can’t chase assholes that we on view felonies but these pos can chase shoplifters ?? What’s the cr number she got so we can follow “transparency and accountability “!! remember copa said stillman shouldn’t have chased “a little boy that was just trying to be a little boy”. Another example of don’t do as I do just do as I say.
Are they armed, too?

We don't know about that one. On one hand, we could see them attempting to deny as many officers as possible any sort of retirement credentials. If you retire with an open number, they can mess with your IROCC stuff and make the process lengthy and annoying. Not that it matters if you're leaving the state.
But as the original commenter said later, IAD, IPRA (now COPA) and other bodies did spend a lot of time in our comment sections. That HQ IP address that traced back to the 5th Floor didn't log off for years at a time.

Once you hit the button on the PAR online form there is no stopping you from retiring.
I retired from the SHIT-hole city last year and never went back to pick up my retirement star.
When you retire you have to come back 4 to 6 weeks later at 35th to pick it up.
I'm sure there are hundreds of stars that were never picked up.
3 days after I quit I moved down here to Knox County Tennessee and will NEVER return to Illinois.

Doesn’t IAD have a “social media unit” that scours posts and social media of sworn police? There’s been several coppers that have posted “F*** You CPD” vids on Instagram and Facebook the day after they retired or quit. I’m guessing this city (and the other Democrat-run departments) would love to put an end to this. And for sure the new Superintendent would love to put an end to Second City Cop and other independent media sites. First Amendment protections don’t apply to police officers…no dissent is allowed in America 2.0.
Flush your social media. Save your pictures and the good stuff off line. Delete everything on line.
Do this regularly and repeatedly. Does anyone really need anything on line from more than a month ago?

I made a big stink about it, the fop won't do a damn thing about it, and me and any copper that has similar open cr's are basically just left to hire our own lawyers to sue on our own. Is it worth it? No fuckin clue. I'm stuck. Along with many others. It's a backwards way of retaining us, that's getting little to 0 attention. Copa is supposed to notify you within 6 months of a CR, and every 6 months thereafter until its closed. I didn't even know I had this one, for 4 years until I tried to lateral. Sure...NOOOOOWWWW I'm getting notified. Worthless agency.

Me too! I retired a little over a year ago and about 4 months into retirement they called me to say my retirement star is ready. They would not ship it. There has to be 100s of stars that will never be picked up. What a backward ass department.

Stop blaming the FOP for COPA’s incompetence. As far as lateral transfers go, they’re actually doing you a favor. You surely, after six months, will be one of the assholes crying to FOP to get back with this department. The grass ain’t greener. Now, go back to your mom’s basement and eat her meatloaf! Tonight is bath night, so make sure you bring the old lady a box of chocolates or something since she still cleans your hard to reach places.

This happend to me.....all of a sudden there was a CR on me for saying disparaging remarks about the Mayor on FB. When I went down for interview they showed pictures of me in uniform from years ago. This was right before I retired. All ended up being fine but it was quite an inconvenience. I now live out of the country.
I believe they ate not just delaying some of us from retiring because the city is petrified from losing anymore of us tgat know what we are doing when it comes down to common sense Policing!
I hate this place! I feel like we are in another dimension called Shit-cago.
I retired recently and contacted a Sergeant in IAD asking if I had any open investigations. She stated that I had no "open IAD investigations." I then asked what about COPA? She stated that she can not see COPA investigations. She then further stated that when CPD HR would ask if a member had any open investigations IAD would contact COPA and inquire on the member. IAD Sergeant stated COPA stopped communicating with IAD and would not "confirm or deny" whether a member had any open investigations.
I heard COPA is working on indicting TRUMP...
Any copper that has their Facebook profile public so anyone can view, well shouldn't be a copper at all.
But why do coppers do social media anyway? It's just a big waste of time and energy. And who's on these sites, mostly far left cowards itching for a war of words fight. Even liking a picture can get you in trouble. Social media is the worst part of the internet. They call it Fakebook for a reason. The younger coppers on TicTok, you'd hope they would have more sense.

You DO have a 1st Amendment right, just like everyone else. You can go out and say, post whatever you damn well please.
You DONT have a right to have a job!
Your employer, if they don't like what you say, has a right to fire you.
There's a lot of case law supporting this.
Common sense approach-
You hire a landscaper.

I suggest that if you have a social media account you do not post anything that remotely can be used against you to claim that you are a supremacist or hater or anything against the department. If you insist, cover your tracks by using a different name and pay for one of those websights that disguise your IP address, There is software out there, and I know because I use it in my business, that can hunt down every social media site that you have used and it is all based on your name, your address, your e-mail addresses, your telephone numbers and your occupation. It is comprehensive and goes back a number of years. Protect yourself as it is common practice to use social media against employees and also against you if you are involved in any civil or criminal case.
20 Years ago I was with some coppers from Los Angeles. They were telling me stories about their employment and how they were investigated and treated, horror stories to me. I was shocked and said no way would I want to work under those conditions. These guys actually thought it was OK and just. Now, moving forward into 2023, the treatment of Los Angeles Police officers that I once thought was deployable is not common in the CPD. Be careful what you wish for and be careful where you decide to lateral. All is not good down that yellow brick road.

COPA investigates all pursuits that results in fatalities or major injury you retard. I have news for you too, the coward white shirt is only saving you from yourself.
