Budget Shortfall?

(This post was supposed to go up overnight, but didn't)

But Groot said Chicago was in great shape!

  • Chicago faces a $538 million budget shortfall in 2024, with $200 million of it tied to the migrant crisis, influential alderpersons were told Tuesday.

Another $90 million of the budget hole comes from Mayor Brandon Johnson’s decision to get rid of an automatic escalator that would have increased property taxes to match the rate of inflation. Former Mayor Lori Lightfoot championed the property tax escalator. Johnson campaigned on a promise to hold the line on property taxes.

Johnson didn’t take Lightfoot’s word for it when she said she’d left the city in great financial shape, with an $85 million shortfall that was among the lowest in recent Chicago history. And it’s a good thing the new mayor was skeptical of that number, his top aides told members of Johnson’s inner City Council circle who were briefed on the budget forecast.

BJ was "skeptical"? This financial genius?

  • The projected shortfall also includes $45 million in pension costs Lightfoot intended to off-load to Chicago Public Schools to cover nonteaching employees who draw their retirement checks from the Municipal Employees Pension Fund. Johnson apparently has decided not to shift those costs to CPS.

Why should CPS pay for anything when all those rich taxpayers are there with open wallets?

Coming from an organization that has paid next to nothing for their pension fund, and whenever property tax assessments came due, raise it the maximum allowable every single time, we don't have any faith in BJ's ability to balance/fix/ameliorate Chicago's budget woes....and that rinky-dink temporary casino ain't even a stop-gap.

So with a budget shortfall of that size, why in the world are they forcing the entire department to work overtime for the Mexican weekend? What a colossal waste of money.

Every single year the mayors lie and lie and lie to the public saying “I did such a great job and fixed everything bla bla bla” then shortly after we learn it wasn’t true AGAIN! Now we have Lightfoot(the disaster turned Harvard professor LOL)and incompetent Johnson giving away hard working Chicago residents and businesses tax money to people illegally flooding into America that never paid a dime and never will. Chicago will never survive this invasion! Simply send them back and stop being a sanctuary city and save Chicago ASAP! If Joe Biden won’t do it then you have too!

Wake up people! Mayor Johnson is on a path of destruction. He’s either incompetent or purposefully sending Chicago off a cliff. This is as serious as a heart attack. Between the cost of the illegals flooding into American sanctuary cities, crime, and a CPS budget that’s always out of wack even though enrollment is down, there’s no way Chicago can sustain this burden. Someone please do something! First, send the illegals back home. Otherwise we will be overrun and crushed financially.

Will the various leaders in Chicago ever come out publicly and blast Johnson about the destruction he’s causing? Will they then resign after listing reasons why? Until then every member of his staff and every alderman is just as responsible. I don’t expect kiss ass Snelling to say anything. They all put themselves and their massive salaries before the greater good of Chicago

Four men staying at the Lake Shore Hotel migrant shelter, 4900B S. Lake Shore Dr., were turned away at the door last week after returning from several days work in Wisconsin

“We arrived today, and they kicked us out because we were working,” one of the men told the Sun-Times on Friday. He said they were “out on the street with all our suitcases and bags and everything.”

With the men unable to return to the shelter, their partners and eight children left the Lake Shore Hotel for O’Hare International Airport, a temporary shelter where they previously stayed.

Bozo Circus is on the air.. 115th/Halsted But are the tents NIJ level IV rated or nah?

Migrants would move from police stations to big (Bozo Circus) tents in 'winterized base camps' under Chicago mayor's new plan

One location for the tents is 115th and Halsted streets – a huge empty lot that our sources say will house up to 1,400 migrants.

The former parking lot for the long-shuttered Halsted Indoor Mall was supposed to become housing for low-income Chicagoans, retail, and green space. The site had been set to be developed into the Morgan Park Commons, for which the State of Illinois has already appropriated $15 million in funds.

We don't know where that money is going. Far South Community Development Corporation, the nonprofit that was behind the project, declined to do an interview with us.

Department of Homeland Security officials confirmed to Axios last week that the federal funds they provide to local organizations can be — and are — used to buy bus, train and plane tickets for migrants to come to Chicago.

Vice President Kamala Harris is in town this week to plan for next year's Democratic National Convention. Will Chicago officials use the visit to highlight the need for more federal resources?

I'm surprised it isn't more. Never before has so much money gone up in smoke...This is unprecedented in US history. Politicians in blue cities ought to be ashamed for spending so much and getting absolutely nothing in return.

Todays politicians make bad business decisions. Very bad business decisions...They ignore things like crime and inflation which ultimately makes things worse. They cry "sanctuary" city to make libtards feel better even knowing that it will bankrupt them.

All they had to do was finish the wall, and secure the border...and they couldn't even accomplish that.

Drivers on Chicago’s South Side will have to contend with major lane reductions on DuSable Lake Shore Drive in coming weeks.

According to the Chicago Department of Transportation, a repaving project on the roadway will impact lanes between 31st Street and 57th Drive.

Officials began pre-staging work over the weekend, and the lane closures went into effect on Monday. Those closures are expected to remain in place for approximately six weeks.

How's this work exactly. Call 311 to report a non criminal hate crime and then what? Are they replacing the gang database with a hate speech database. As if the city doesnt have enough more important things to spend taxpayers money on and waste time on.

Hello 311...yes I'd like to report a non criminal hate incident...someone used their free speech to mis-gender me. Oh its you again. Do you have their name what race were they and did they have a MAGA hat on? Okay I'll put a tick mark down for you

When the hate database results looks just like the old gang database filled with people (and folks) of color that are disproportionately hating/shooting each other they'll delete it again I suppose

Chicago's only openly Jewish alderperson proposed rewrite of Chicago’s hate crime ordinance would create new category called ‘hate incidents’

The ordinance Ald. Debra Silverstein plans to introduce would create the noncriminal category, and Chicagoans could report incidents via 311.

Well now, let's take a look at this:

State, county and city taxations are legion.

Besides the obvious state income tax, where else does the state get taxes from?

Utility billings, eh?

Fees too many to enumerate for too many 'services', like the license to drive, to identify yourself, and your vehicle(s), etc.

Ditto for the county, big one being property taxes.

All three,I believe, get a piece of the tax on retail sales.

Do a bit more than I and see exactly how many ways the state, county and city get taxes from you.

Now, explain how to not pay these multitudes of taxations.

Besides being a fucking moocher on the dole......

Please tell me this is sarcasm?

CPD pension has lost approximately 50% of its value since 1998, when the fund was at 72%. And that 50% drawdown has occurred while the charts of the equity markets have gone from the lower left to the upper right.

Is the CPD pension in trouble? Yeah, your damned right it is and has been for decades, yet nothing significant enough to increase funding has been enacted. And don't think that hasn't been intentional. They (politicians, multi national corporations, tax payers, pension alarmists like Dan Pfart) would love nothing more than to bankrupt the pension fund. It's a feature of their policy.
