Chicago Self Immolation

BJ prepares to fire the biggest kill shot into Chicago's future, sealing the death spiral into Detroit:

  • The letters are stamped all over the hallways of Chicago’s giant skyscrapers and grand office buildings. DRW, IMC, CME, Cboe.

These are some of the derivatives firms that collectively handle trillions of dollars a year in trades, greasing the wheels of global markets with everything from stock options to corn futures. Most of them have called Chicago home for decades — providing thousands of jobs within the city’s $75 billion finance industry.

Now, the firms’ commitment to the Windy City is being tested by some $800 million in taxes proposed by a new mayor staring down a budget gap that’s swelled to half a billion dollars. One idea is a levy on financial transactions, which has alarmed companies already worried about a jump in crime that shows few signs of abating.

BJ thinks he can tax his way out of a rather large hole:

  • One of his campaign proposals would generate $20 million annually by reinstating a $4 per employee tax on big businesses. An additional $100 million could come from raising the levy on high-end property purchases — the kinds of homes bought by wealthy finance workers.

Most importantly for the derivatives industry, Johnson has floated seeking another $100 million with a levy of $1 to $2 for every securities contract traded. That would boost costs by as much as 800%, according to CME.

With downtown posting vacancy rates over 20%, and numerous high-rent leases coming due on mostly empty skyscrapers, a $4 per employee head tax will simply drive out businesses. Many downtown renters already have suburban campuses, so a shift to all suburban locales is a simple matter.

As for a transaction tax, one of the big companies (we can't remember which) ran a test the other month whereby all trading was routed through a duplicate trading floor set up out of Illinois. These aren't the old days of traders crowding the pits, yelling out orders, filling contracts like Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy in Trading Places. Most of that stuff is already done by computers, trading hundreds-of-thousands of shares on tenths-of-percentage shifts in the market.

We are told it went flawlessly, which means that all it would take for them to abandon Chicago and the transaction tax would be a change in IP addresses, which is what one executive warns in the article. New York and LA already lost big companies controlling more than a trillion dollars....each.

If these bean counters will move a trillion dollars worth of electrons based solely on New York and California tax policies, it's a safe bet Chicago isn't immune.

Move the no longer in physical existence "trading floor," out of state?

Then Why do any of the employees need to be in the state of Illinois? Why do 95% of them even need to work in Crook County?

Dallas and Atlanta will be sending Mayor BJ gift baskets thanking him, and Gulfstreams to pick up the executive ls from every trading house. Every member of the TX and GA Board of realtors will be bombarding everyone in the trading houses with literature saying "HIRE ME! I will find your new house!"

Do these nitwits really believe that they can outsmart the financials?

Like they, having most temporary possesion of government authority, are even remotely going to succeed in compelling big business to submit to their sticky finger ways?

Whenever big business seems to be co operating with government, you can be sure it benefits big business most.

And this pumpkinhead puppet mayor figures he's gonna slick pick the pockets of big business?

Chump.

With the high vacancy rates the management companies may start taking in the aliens. In NYC some of the hotels have contracts with the federal government for three years to house these people. In the Times Sq area it’s hard to get a hotel room because some of the hotels will only take the aliens. It’s a win for them because if you are renting to tourists or business people availability fluctuates sometimes you make money sometimes you don’t. So if you sign with the government you are guaranteed full occupancy for the three years and if they wreck the rooms the government pays for it.

LOL... It's not just the City - because while the traders may have a party condo in the City somewhere, they ALL live on the North Shore. Kennilworth, Winnetka, Glencoe, Highland Park, Lake Forest... wanna see those nice places evaporate fast? Fuck with transaction fees on the trades.

Those people have M*O*N*E*Y, multiple houses, and I know a few who have toyed with the idea of walking away from multi-million dollar properties, letting the taxes lapse, and then writing off the loss over a few years while they go live in one the other houses in another State.

They wouldn't even take the furniture. All most of them are waiting for are kids to graduate high school and head off to college. And as things go from worse to crazy bad in Hellinois, they're all of the mind that even that's not a reason any longer.

Load up the cars on the transporters, pack some clothes and meds, and get on the private jet - never to return.

This nitwit BJ has ZERO concept of that which he fucks with.

Get the 50# sack of popcorn, this is gonna get good fast.

Mcdonalds at this moment is regretting moving from Oakbrook to chiraq as they are currently looking at taking billions out of here and another abandoned campus otw!

Crime and taxes big issues what else did anyone expect with a democratic controlled blue state?
Now with no cash bail statewide watch and see the lights go off as companies with good paying jobs flee this state the city is in rapid decline due to letting criminals freely mam and kill!

Most of the people running these billion dollar financial companies were smarter when they were 12-years-old than BLM BJ is today. He can't possibly think that there's something that will keep these companies in the city or state. If he does think that, then he really is a moron. Otherwise, this is just political theater to keep his rabble voting base thinking he's "sticking it to the man". When the rabble gets their property tax bill with a 1000% increase, it'll be too late for them.

When you recognize that this is an intended feature of destroying the pension system it all reconciles. Allowing for and creating large budget gaps in order to raise taxes IS deliberate.

Once business moves and takes their tax revenues with them, what's left to fund pensions? Raise property taxes? How long before people and folks walk away from those properties? Who takes over the abandoned properties? Yes, banks and large money institutions like the parasites and oligarchs of Citadel, Black Rock, Vanguard etc.

They'll get it all too. And you'll have/own nothing and be happy! That's communism and that's what the United States has been turned into.

"I can't go 4 blocks away at night." - Sirens nightly! She is retired.

However, what person living in a Million Dollar North Shore home will get taxed to death, risk car jackings, pan handlers, tax tax tax. Retired is one thing. Going into the jungle daily hardens you.

In my case, there came a breaking point. You do not want to lose your sanity.

Too, I guess the reason people leave is their "privilege."

The woman (& her husband) I mentioned in the first sentence have homes in FL and UT too. The point I'm making is, there is a breaking point. Chicago - someone else will gladly take your businesses, your banks, your best people, and what are you stuck with?

Five years after Detroit’s bankruptcy, the Detroit News reported “General workers endured a 4.5 percent base cut in pensions and the elimination of an annual cost-of-living increase. The pensions of police and firefighters weren’t cut but an annual 2.25 percent cost-of-living adjustment was reduced to about 1 percent.”

BJ leadership will double or triple those cuts at a minimum. Plan carefully.

Chicago is Home to 28 Sister Cities and they never really knew their fathers because Chicago's mother was a crack whore.

Hey I wonder if the people that run Heyjackass thought about counting the number of overdoses in Chicago as a comparison to the shootings and homicides

Last year (2021) , 1,428 people died of opioid-related overdoses in Chicago, the most ever recorded in the city and a 10% increase from 2020, which saw 1,302 opioid-related deaths.

Just because the drug cartels and terrorist are not shooting Amricans with military styled AK-47s supplied by Obamas AG Eric Holder does not mean we are not currently at war. The beauty of poisoning Americans instead of shooting them is the plausible deniability it offers and it's like what the corona sickness achieved as well. Its a covert war.

1,500 Chicagoan's die on a battlefield by guns and explosives would be big news invoking anger and calls for retaliation. 1,500 Chicagoans taken down using fentanyl, gain of function viruses or other synthetic chemical warfare agents and not a peep. As if no one is responsible for it it's an act of nature by God

Why would you want to call attention to it anyway when there's all that money to be made by big pharma pushing vaccines and free Narcan -- that's really not free at all the taxpayers fund it.

You stop the chemical warfare in progress how in the hell is big pharma going to get to play the part of our saviour and the senile old man in the big house our hero.

The big pharma lobbyist will have no political donation money to keep the party going if the problem was fixed is that what you want, that what you want..lol

Same goes for the shootings really and the gender confirming surgeries at the children's and university hospitals enabling lifelong sales of puberty blockers and follow up surgeries.

The noble first do no harm doctors and their political and mass media co-conspirators have a money making business to run what the hell were you thinking. For those still using the old school Tee-Vees state propaganda tools try counting the number of pharma commercials sponsoring the news programs when they air it is very telling "..ask you doctor if (fill in the blank) is right for you."

I digress

The event was co-sponsored by the Party for Socialism and Liberation, Democratic Socialists of America, Peace Action Committee, Workers World Party and El Centro.

"Chicago Self Immolation"

If we are going to do a Burning Man Thing we are going to have to come up with some guided principles. The participative agglomeration within the metropolis has already begun so there is no time to waste

agglomeration
ə-glŏm″ə-rā′shən
noun
The act or process of gathering into a mass.

A confused or jumbled mass.

The act of agglomerating or the state of being agglomerated; the state of gathering or being gathered into a mass.

Economies of agglomeration
One of the major subfields of urban economics, economies of agglomeration explains, in broad terms, how urban agglomeration occurs in locations where cost savings can naturally arise.

City of chicago and all of cook county are located on the west coast of a great lake.

Geography is predominantly flatland.

Though currently populated and inhabited by a variety of humans, and substantially covered by the usual human constructions, beneath which are fertile soils, investing now in these soon to be available abundant square miles of prime choice real estate will pay off handsomely to the savy colonizer.

Once the human vermin are purged, their savage structures demolished and cleared, and the surfaces reconditioned nicely, the blossoming of our species' resettlements will commence.

Opportunities, though presently abundant, are not infinite.

Remember, on the coast of a great lake.

Remember, abundantly fertile soil beneath the surface mess.

Remember, the early bird catches the worm.

I'm giving Chicago 12=15 years and it will look like Detroit around the time that it collapsed. The tax base is collapsing as we speak.

The public schools have been turning out functional illiterates for decades now. They only need a few more generations of this to make loyal democrats who will vote in lock step. The only thing they know is that they will burn everything to the ground if they don't get what they want after calling it racism.

The laws on books as we know them are not being enforced. The courts wont lift a finger to prosecute. The police make arrests when they have to and the case falls apart in the courts, and the criminals go free without consequences. The disfunction of the leadership in CPD will only speed the death spiral.

It is only a matter of time until some warlords appear on the scene, build power bases and begin reigns of terror on the city streets while rich politicians divvy up what is left of the city coffers.

This is not a movie, it is our future...The people in charge really don't care.
