Police Board Politics
Not many people know (or care) about the Chicago Police Board....unless they're appearing in front of it. The board has become increasingly irrelevant among the dozen or more investigatory and oversight bodies that have made police work near impossible in Chicago.
A number of the spots have had terms expire recently and there's a political push to fill them with the usual crop of lib-tards and social justice warriors:
The Chicago Police Board, the nine-person body that metes out discipline in the most serious cases of alleged misconduct by Chicago police officers, is in a state of flux.
No longer does the board have a say in who should be CPD superintendent, and the union representing rank-and-file CPD officers contends that cops facing disciplinary charges should be afforded the option to have their cases decided by a third-party arbitrator — a potential departure from 60 years of precedent.
Now under the purview of the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability, a new civilian-staffed oversight body, the makeup of the board itself is rapidly changing.
Among the nominees are these particular assholes:
- Oreal James, previously appointed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker to the state’s Prisoner Review Board, he resigned in 2022 after drawing heavy criticism for voting to parole two men convicted of killing CPD officers.
- Cathryn Crawford, a defense attorney for more than 25 years, [...] Crawford urged that the next CPD superintendent
eliminate the department’s tactical and gang units “that are notorious
for acting with impunity and violating our citizens’ rights.” She also
called for an end to CPD foot chases and the creation of stronger
mechanisms for officers to report misconduct among their colleagues.
So two people who have done more to demoralize and gut proactive policing want spots on a board to oversee their handiwork...and ensure the Department doesn't even think about enforcing the law.

It's over... just leave as soon as possible.
May as well nominate Ilan Omar, MN US Rep.
Libs: "Why is Chicago so unsafe?"
Also Libs: "Sure I'll vote for the police-hating socialist."
Who names their child “Oreal” ?
Oh, never mind !
Remember the advise of General U.S. Grant when he said that the surest way to assure the repeal of an a obnoxious law was through its vigorous enforcement. Let these people make any rules they like, and then follow them to the letter. No foot chases means no foot chases. Just because you are a cop doesn’t mean you have any more responsibility for the safety of the community than any other citizen. The elected officials are who makes the rules and sets the priorities. Follow their directions and let them, not you, live with the consequences.
By-the-way, for the love of God, stop telling people you aren’t going to do your job! Every time some poster on a site like this says they are a cop, and they just collect a pay check for not working, they are giving the mayor the excuse he needs to blame the cops for his failed policies.
Years ago the police board was mandated to sit in (for at least one day) on any cases of separation. After a very high profile case 3 members who were the only ones to sit in on this hearing voted for the officers to retain their jobs. The vote was 4-3 and the officers got fired. The 3 who voted for the officers to keep their jobs were removed from the board. The city planted evidence. The police board was a city tool used to get rid of officers and corrupt as can be.
OT, but wondering if SCC has heard similar rumors from city hall... Talk of eliminating 800 CPD positions from the budget (see, we're not that short staffed). Also, from the boys over at FD- a cheating scandal with a captain exam.
Mr. Clark from Eastside High we need you more than ever …
… and he DIDN’T say, Joe be polite so that’s why i kicked those lil bastards OUT !
Call and mail your reps asking them not to support these socialists. Probably won’t change anything but gotta start somewhere.
Sell your house now and get another job.
If you do nothing as the order states, you won't have to worry about board, Copa, etc etc
To 809am——the same people who name their the kid Orenthal.
Keep the line moving
More like Unreal.
If Assault style weapons are already banned in Chicago, why would you register them with the state?
Not sure I would actually disagree with this Kathrine Crawford lady. Everyday, all districts are in a RAP with 4-10 tact cars available and they’re not obligated to respond to any calls except “sellin’ own da block”. We could use the extra cars to help with the call volume. But we all know that’s not going to happen. The clouted on this job have it made. Ohh well. It’s chilly outside I think I’m getting the sniffles again.
Interesting. The Police Board is a joke. I think all would agree. They are being neutered by the courts and arbitrators. I know it’s not a hundred percent, but they are known as a kangaroo court. They would have nothing to do if they weren’t fed a stream of ridiculous nonsense from COPA.
Who names their child “Oreal” ?
It's an Irish name, like O'Bama.
LOL. Why are still ON THE JOB? Hate from all sides, community, politicians, your CPD bosses, MSM and most likely your significant others because of your bad mood. Think about leaving city and state for a real shot at enjoyable life.
Yikes! Though on the state side of things, the grass is not greener. I’d say come to ISP, but our pay isn’t even close to competitive anymore and command is going downhill, quickly. Our most recent cadet class has TWO cadets! TWO!!! Is that even worth the cost to staffing? It is contract time, so we shall see (not holding breath, heard command is gutting everything patrol to favor fancy hit teams run by the tiny nutbar colonel). Maybe we can get something decent, more years to go. So many good folks retired and the rest of the good folks still here keep their heads down. It’s turning our agency to shambles and eradicating morale. Those that can and would make things better, don’t want to deal with our nutbar tiny colonel. It’s nice to read drama isn’t just in my neck of the woods! Stay safe folks, ask questions, always pull a report, document, and use your accrued time to not donate!!

Why did this make me think of the juice!

That's an eye opener and pure TRUTH! I'm kicking myself in the ass for becoming a cop instead of going into trades. 7 more years seems like a sentence in this profession.

100% correct.

100% correct. But you'll still get goofs OTJ who will foot chase and car chase against the policy and then expect a pass when shit goes south. Stick to the policys 100% and let the public feel the burn, only then will things "maybe" change.
ISP. Several family on ISP. I disagree with you, I would rather the nut job midget micro manager Colonel over some of the merit hacks we work for here on the CPD. My nephew loves the ISP, chicago born and bred, after recruit school ended up in Southern Illinois. Now he despises getting sent to Oak Brook to work missions on the Chicago Expressways
Down State, the ISP still have Master Troopers, Sgts and Lts who are still the police. Whats amazing is how they take care of their people, especially those who work the holidays..its like how the CPD once was..
She is a real hoot, but you have to hand it to her, coming out of the trailer park in 004 to Colonel of the ISP, would check on her when she sat on Wenrhworth at 5440 doing her paper..

Most of the good (and sadly the bad) command are my classmates. Sadly, in person, they'll admit, we can't really do much (against political moves). They absolutely try to take care of their Troopers in the new fancy "Troops," but it only goes so far. Outside of a Col or Major, rank doesn't matter, whatever Chicago wants, ISP will do. Ask your family about it, be ready for more Chicago forces 2024!
OT -- SCC, there's a rumor mill about Tier 2 and the worries statewide about possible lawsuits once T2 retirees start reaching retirement (2030+) due to "non-compounding" issues. Exciting to see if they'll get fixes in the works.

many of the people on these community police advisory boards are not police friendly. One of the main people, an attorney, who was appointed by Lori to the large civilian board is very anti police. He is a defense attorney and thinks he is a law enforcement expert.
So this should be more ammo on why we need arbitration. A case that involves a foot pursuit and she will vote to fire automatically and if it’s a gang or tac officer she will do the same. Skewed from the beginning.
