The person in the role will be tasked with providing solutions “for stable, permanent and affordable housing” for the unhoused in the city, Johnson said in a statement.
“By establishing a Chief Homelessness Officer for the City of Chicago, we will have a critical point of contact to coordinate efforts and leverage the full force of government to provide shelter for all people,” Johnson said.

Thank you for quoting the late Harold Washington. Regardless of feelings that were expressed during his administration (for or against), Harold possessed something that no politician in Chicago currently has (or even can understand); he cared. For good or bad, he cared about our City and took responsibility for its success (or failure). Hungry citizens will soon be doing desperate things and the ministry of immigrants Million Man March to Chicago only increases the pressure.
Work Permits Enable "The Migrants" to move out of shelters and into apartments BUT only if there are living wage jobs for them to do.
What is the min. rent in Chicago say $1,000/mo.? Do the math. For every 1,000 migrant families we are looking at $1 mil./mo in rent aid alone. For some like those staying at the inn of Chicago, apartments would be a lot cheaper nevertheless we have thousands more outside of that with more on there way.
My point is we don't have the jobs in Chicago right now. I don't even know that we have the affordable housing. This importation of poverty depressing wages and inflating rents is setting the stage for socialism and communism government controlled taxpayer funded new CHA/HUD housing projects == social disorder.
Harold Washington made Chicago a sanctuary city.

What a landslide 2024 will be when the people who actually pay the taxes get to vote. The dems are acting as if they have it all locked up in their favor.
