Only a few dozen people lined up outside the various entrances to Water Tower Place when it opened at 9 a.m.
Stanley Ellis-Roberts, visiting with a friend from Minnesota, felt like the shopping was easy-going as he rummaged through some shirts at Marshalls a few blocks away.
Hailing from an area near the Mall of America, the largest shopping center in the country, Ellis-Roberts said he’s used to a more hectic shopping experience.
The bustling shopping crowds on the day after Thanksgiving have been dwindling in recent years, especially after the pandemic, as some retailers offer discounts throughout the month and with many shoppers turning to the comfort of their own homes for online shopping.
And the non-demonized yutes?

Since all the lootings and mass burglaries retailers are getting smarter and leaving their sizes, colorways, and styles that don't sell out on the floor and not carrying them in the back so that you go in and they can do an online order for you. Pointless to go to the store anymore than if you want to see it before you buy it. This is my Lululemon experience and I fully expect to get ragged on for it but we could all use a chuckle SCC.

Was in the Water Tower last Christmas, it was like shopping at Ford City. Not to many high-end stores left. When you shop on Amazon you don't have to worry about non-demonized youths busting your head open so they can sell your I-Phone for 10 bucks to the local Arab store.
Lets call it the George Floyd effect which happened around the pandemic bullshit. Come out to the burbs where shopping is flourishing, Oak Brook packed regardless of day of the week.

Had an out-of-state friend who was planning to bring his grandchildren to Chicago for the post-Thanksgiving shopping. I told him don't bother. The Chicago he remembers (from only about 10 years ago) was killed by Lightfoot and Brandon. Now, it's just boarded up storefronts, beggars and local youth looking for victims. He decided to stay in Florida.

They're basically shrinking it instead. The top three retail floors are going to be converted to other uses (I think for medical offices). The remaining retail spaces they'll probably try to turn into something like 900 N. Michigan, which is still fairly successful and doesn't get a lot of ghetto youth.

Shoplifter Shuffle
Charges have been filed against three Venezuelan migrants after they allegedly stole over $500 worth of merchandise from a department store in Elmhurst on Black Friday.
Ilys Mary Ledesma Zapata, 37, Christian Johan Saavedra-Omona, 21, and Braud Pineda Avendano, 33, all of Venezuela, were arrested at the Kohl's located at 303 South Route 83.
Officials said Ledesma Zapata was in possession of a large magnet used to thwart the store's anti-theft devices. The total value of the items stolen from the store is roughly $500, prosecutors said.
