the results of a recent poll showing that Chicago voters are opposed to
Mayor Brandon Johnson’s tent city plan by a more than 2-to-1 margin.
“We’ve seen reaction from residents in the city, for example Brighton Park was selected for one of the sites for tents and it faced blowback from residents, some protested showing how polarizing the issue is,” Sharkey told The Center Square. “On top of protests, there’s also been a lawsuit filed to halt construction. More money from the city for the solution can help in the short term, but it’s not a permanent plan.”
With the Lincoln Poll survey of 800 voters conducted over a five-day period in late October, researchers found that 63% of residents are at least somewhat against the plan, 46% of them strongly, compared to just 28% who support it and 9% who are unsure.
Among different ethnic groups, Hispanic residents were most strongly opposed to the plan at 53%.
Two-thirds against. But mayor Blowie is full-speed ahead and construction on Tent-City-EPA Superfund Site is scheduled to begin today like he doesn't care about poll numbers or electoral blow back....which probably won't materialize.
Blowie (and Blowie's handlers) are probably hoping for someone to try to start a tent on fire so they can pull a Juicy Smollet stunt and blame Hispanic republicans.

When Brandon Johnson didn’t come out and condemn the youth right away when he took office and instead said they were just kids being kids, that was all it took for all the youths to realize they can do anything they want under his administration and not have any consequences. You can see the crime soaring, their lack of fear of and consequences and nothing of substance happening when they do get caught.

Second is what to do, given whatever calculations have resulted in whatever incomes from presumed retirement on those 20 years otj.
Well, seriously, what is essentially different for you, from the time you chose law enforcement as your career?
Besides being 2 decades older.
Besides having gleened from those 2 decades whatever you have learned, via experiences in the school of hard knocks.
If your query is implying something related to your 2 decades of career experiences, implying you are pondering some similiar, related kind of employment, the varieties are many, all involving continued risks to your existence as inherent to the tasks involved.
Just ponder on all the possible means of earning a living that you had considered before you chose law enforcement.

In every way you pondered them.
The trifecta of:
Work that you enjoy
Work that pays well
Work that you are good at
Is the common goal of everyone who chooses honest work.

Speaking as someone who wore a badge for 28 years, albeit in a western state, if I may offer a couple of comments.
1) From what we can see out here, in Chicago what the mass of the people in Chicago want on any issue has absolutely no bearing on what the ruling oligarchy does. In fact they tend to do the opposite of whatever the people want every so often just to make sure that the proles know who is running things. Get ready for tent cities, Chicago winter, requisitions/confiscations of property, etc. to benefit the hostile foreign invaders.

I cannot speak to your financial situation, but if your pension income and debt situation are such so that you can move somewhere out of the Peoples' Republic of Illinois, Oblast of Chicago; by all means do so. The lowered cost of living will stretch your pension. I don't know what you do for recreation, but if it is outside of Illinois, go there if your pension will cover your basic living expenses and see if you can find another job that has something to do with your preferred recreation that you already know and love. Your knowledge and enthusiasm may let you do well and earn enough with your pension to live. It may not be luxurious, but then again being a street cop you knew that you were not going to make as much as the politicians.

I left the job at 50 after getting fed up with not being able to do police work. If you’re able to start collecting the pension, go for it. If you’re worried about health insurance, you can find a job that has it. There’s tons of opportunities out there for work outside of law enforcement, so if the job is causing too much stress, say goodbye.
This might be intentional fogging, to diffuse the blame and keep the sheeples confused.

You're a little older than most who start a new career so you're a bit limited. You don't want a job you'll be phased out of quickly because of age, and you don't want anything that's going to be too rough on your body. If you already have skills unrelated to law enforcement, you can build off that. If not, think of necessary professions that are understaffed. CDL truck driving comes to mind. Anything medical if you're willing to go back to school. Nurse, CNA, respiratory therapist, ect, you'll always be able to find a job. I hope you find your next path in life brother. Fuck this shit job.
To the “OT: looking to move out before 55” I’m in the same boat brother. Even though I am in a decent spot and have no room to complain, this just isn’t working for me. I don’t know if it’s the job, the city, the people or whatever else, but I feel like something is missing and not right. And the thing is that I’m not even 40 yet! I still have 9 years before making 20, but I am literally daydreaming daily of what else is out there … if anything. The only thing I can think of is literally moving out of the country and living off the little I have left. I feel like I’m being selfish but there are other options on the table *wink*

Cybersecurity.; this is one of the highest sought after positions by companies right now, and you don’t need a college degree, but a bachelor’s helps. There are plenty of places that offer free training and certifications in this for law enforcement officers, Make an account using your department email address. The training is tolerable, they dumb it down because they know cops are not the sharpest knives in the drawer and no you don’t need any computer or technology experience. Look up website nw3c, google is running a 3 month boot camp for this at 79 dollars a month, you can also get certified by the Feds, go to CPD wire look under dashboards, scroll down to CJIS Law Enforcement Enterprise Portal (LEEP) dashboard, look through there a lot of free training there. Cybersecurity pays starting at about low 6 figures to top 5 figures, most companies have a hybrid work schedule or remote work.

With regards to the 2024 election, in black battleground states RFK Jr. is polling at 28 percent, Trump at 13 percent. And this was on MSNBC, the Demoncratic Party Channel. He's polling well with younger people.

Like to see him debate Sheriff Grady Judd about drug crime and law and order. Many people have given excellent advise. I suggest that you look at all of the suggestions and make an assessment. This includes, as mentioned by someone else, taking an inventory of your skills and education. Do not become a victim of the technology (IT, Cybersecurity, and so on) boot camps. You will not make six figures by merely earning a certificate or studying for 3 months. Someone suggested that if the stress is getting to you, then consider getting out if you are eligible to collect a pension. Today's economy is about producing products and fixing things. If you are not able to deliver a product or repair a problem, then you will have a hard time getting a job. So, a suggestion is to learn to repair something (heating and air conditioning, plumbing, and so on). hang in there and do not give up there is a life after this job.

And there it is, a complete lemming. You can earn six figures by watching a few YouTube videos and printing your certificate? Have at it. Most of the people who are making six figures in that space have earned advanced degrees from legitimate schools. These are science degrees and not easy degrees, unlike the ones from the diploma mills. These people invested 80 hours a week or more working to earn those degrees. Some people invested that amount of time on one class at a time. I have degrees in in this field and I know firsthand that amount of work that is required to make yourself marketable. You are punching way above your weight class. And good luck with that, let us know how that certificate works out for you. The Chicago Police job is probably the only job that will pay you six figures without having any marketable skills or college degrees. You do not need any college credits anymore.
The EPA report will be out at the end of the week. When it lays out that’s its toxic land, BJ will move it to the Ag School in Mt Greenwood. Tent city on a working farm…..free labor.
