Cracks in the Floors?
The brand new $130-million-and-climbing Police Academy is already experiencing structural failures, as in the fill is settling, leading to cracks in the floors.
Everyone remembers the HQ issues? The entire building center shifting downward, leading to...
- walls that don't touch the floors
- desks on two inches of shims
- desk drawers that slide open on their own
- doors stuck in frames
- and a parking lot that drained into the lobby for years
Good times!
And now an Academy that is just over a year old with significant floor cracks. It's almost like the contractors didn't properly drive pilings into the ground to support the weight of the building.
Anyone have the pictures?

Build Back Better, huh?
Not if Graft Inc. has their snouts in the trough.
Every single thing that our nation's founding fathers foresaw as possible is now actual.
Every fucking single thing.
Soooooooooo.......
At 36th St. I liked the chairs on wheels, untethered from their bungee cords, and how we could glide down the pitched flooring or the cracks in the walls on the 001 Dist side at 1718 S. State where you could stand in the hall behind the WC office and look through the cracks seeing into the office or the flooding in the building. Quality contractors, quality laborers, and quality material supplied is a testament to the “City that works” for the connected.
....It'll need repairs, at three times the cost, ...
Whataaaa you gonna du bout it.....nothing, thought so
Now pay up for the repairs.
.
001 was the same way also.
Just like the rest of new construction with the city structures. Shotty construction work by friends and family of politicians. Will cost taxpayers millions for hiring unqualified construction workers.
i was there for a class a few weeks ago. noticed big cracks in the floors, 2 faucets in bathroom broken / very loose & only cold water and something else i can't think of right now. i remember saying to myself that this building won't last 20 years if its falling apart already two months into its maiden voyage.
Does anyone have the soil sample report before they started building? The city has a tendency to build on toxic sites.
Consistency! If you're gonna fuck something up, be consistent! That way it looks like you meant to do it!
What minority contractor built that disaster? Did they test the soil there or do you intentionally want everyone to get sick?
Sounds like an engineering marvel but it looked good on paper
The 1300 W. Academy had a huge C-clamp that held the part of it together.
If you look at the second floor floor area at the southwest corner of the atrium you should see an old c-clamp holding the steel beams together. It was there in the late 90's. I can't imagine that anyone took it down.
So what.....it's paid for.
Want more work, new building contract, fuck you pay me.
.
What....and the city cannot ...find...a contractor to repair this...
Guess we need more bus loads of illegals to do the jobs Americans won't do.
....cracks in a new building....Really SSC.....
.
Contracts and sub contracts go to the lowest minority bidder who then charges 3x the original bid. Large white envelopes are then traded between various politicians from contractors, vendors and suppliers. Business as usual.
Maybe someday the entire HQ Building will finally fall into the depths of Hell?
Isn't there some kind of warranty?
Those cracks are kind of like the Governor and mayor relationship. LOL, of course the Mayors take is racism, while the Governors take is stupidity.
The original plan was to sell and close 1300 Jackson the current academy, which is a dumpster fire with problems, but the new academy built with many millions in typical city cost over runs does not have capacity for recruits! The new academy is built in an industrial area (wonder what that soil looks like?). They were using the training area the street area as a dumping ground for old office equipment hopefully that is gone by now! Wait a minute they have so many coppers working there working security that could be better used on the streets why is that? Private security would cost must less. Wait we need security at a police facility fancy that.
Brandon can blame Lori for this one too. He “inherited” it.
This clearly proves Lori is an MAGA extremist republican out to get Brandon and Democrats!
Good thing Chicago requires union workers on construction jobs like that!
35th street had the doors by the dock that were not lined up could not close properly, the desks that had to be propped up as the floor tilted and they opened themselves, the broken toilets terrible plumbing, parking lot flooded tilted to water came into building when it rained. Was at new academy training and the toilet was already broken, someone they said they were having problems with gun range ventilation. they are still building housing for training on that land great concept wrong location, and quality of build.

That should be expected when you build on native ritual burial grounds, always test the soil...
Let the firemen fix it. They are all in the trades anyway.
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
Leaning Tower of Police - CPD version...
I imagine every large city PD has a version also...
Is there anything Lightfoot didn’t fuck up?
Wow, imagine how bad it would be without building codes and union labor. HAHAHAHA!!!
We had a pothole at our district right by where the squad cars were parked and every year around 13A/13B 5 or 6 guys would roll an ankle in it and go IOD and come back right after easter. It took about 3 years but they finally figured it out and patched the thing up.
What pilings? We don’t need no stinking pilings.
Chicago=Failure
Perhaps the construction company should stick with shelters for illegals!
It happens to brand new homes as well. That large dream house in Tennessee recently built settles too!
American & United want the city to scale back the O'hare expansion as it's soaring over it's initial projected cost.
It was initially projected at $8.7 billion, now it's over $12 billion
https://simpleflying.com/american-airlines-united-airlines-slow-down-chicago-ohare-expansion/
Hell I remember when they built the 011 th District, the urinals were hung on the walls. The sub contractors said they were gona come back later and connect the pipes
Who was the contractor(s) and who did they give campaign contributions to or relatives they hired?
don't worry, they are "mostly peaceful" construction failures
Sounds like the Gov visited the academy, what a slob
Cracks in the concrete are natural.
ALL buildings settle.
However if the crack is more than 3/16" wide or 3/16" vertical displacement it should be covered by a warranty.
If there are "cracks" already appearing in titled floors.. well the building is FUCKED.

NO
That building was built on a dumping ground.
They have been dumping toxic shit there since the 1800's.
The place sits right next to the current garbage plant at 704 N KIlbourn.
....cracks in the walls ....
Fuck you ...pay me
....you could stand in the hall behind the WC office and look through the cracks seeing into the office
Fuck you...Pay me
....the flooding in the building

Fuck you....Pay me

Fuck you ...Pay Me

Vote democrat.......

The soil at the new academy was never properly cleaned of cancer causing contamination. The city took lots of short cuts. Good news is it is not safe for migrants to live there.
And why did they build the two shooting ranges smackdab in the middle of the second-floor of the new academy?! Even with soundproofing you can hear rifle fire throughout the building, up, down and sideways. Why not build the shooting ranges as a separate extension to the building away from offices and classrooms? And don't tell me that would be noise pollution for the neighborhood either...the residents around Chicago and Pulaski have no problem with the constant gunfire and drag-racers anyway.
Maybe they can build the next academy at 38th and California.
Heard there's some land there.
Who cares get out of this shitshow as soon as u can!
The graft allows for no honest best quality of anything.
Only most lucrative.
City sure knows how to spend money on the crappiest companies to build city structures...look at the 19th district..building isn't even 13 yrs old yet, only used the lock-up for a very short period of time and never used it since ( i hear cause of plumbing problems). So a new building and cant even use the lock up instead we go to belmont and western, a building loaded with Asbestos!! Ever see the ceilings, esp in lock up??
AS long as democRats got their kickbacks who cares right?
We all win when we say Union yes.
Obviously it was built by the guy with the biggest envelope full of cash for the right guys
The same academy, which ours was modeled after, was built in Appleton, WI for $24 million. It has card reader access to all areas, not keys, it has slip-free floors, not the ice rink concrete, the ranges have soundproof glass, we don't, they have an indoor pool for training, we don't, a working ventilation system, cafeteria, ample parking and outbuilding training areas. How in the wide, wide world of sports did ours cost so much more?!
It’s not shoddy construction, it’s all the dead weight of the useless officers assigned there.
You know the ones… They’re the people with less than 10 years on the job pretending they were the real police back in the day and now they’re gonna show you how it’s done.
And trust me when I tell you, I know a thing or three about dead weight. I’m FLOP’s version.

Unions suck! As Elon Musk stated: unions are a middle man that ultimately takes money and power away from workers.
Allow the free market to operate the winners rise to the top.
This shit isn't that complicated. Fuck unions.
The lucky landlord says:
Whenever I have a “New American” destroy one of my units I pick up the phone and call Vanco Dwelling Unit Repair Solutions. There by the minute pricing is fair, along with their travel times. It only took them 3 weeks to patch 3 holes in my walls, get rid of a roach infestation, and remove chili pepper stains on the rugs. They said I need to contact out an exterminator for the bedbugs, to which they provided me an approved vendor list. I haven’t got a bill yet but I’m sure it will be fair.

Funny thing you mentioned the cracks in the floor, was just there a week ago and said same exact thing.

Oh my God I can only imagine the contaminants around there. I wonder if they even did a radon gas test among other things.
Im sure the most talented CPS grads designed and built the place.
what? is that Vanecko construction still in business?
Yeah I got some serious issues with my crack
Ideal dumpy location to house all the frozen illegals this winter.
Builders recommended by Oliver Wendell Douglas.

The Bureau wants to build a new HQ in suburban Maryland. Recommend the services of Chicago area Architects who designed and the Construction Companies that built new Academy to the Bureau.
