Playing with Stats Again

This used to irritate us back in the day and is the main reason we trust only trusted HeyJackass.com to come up with actual numbers that were as close to reality as possible:

  • Officials this week now suspect foul play in the death of a 78-year-old man who was assaulted on the West Side several months ago.

Charles Micenhamer died of blunt force injuries of the head from an assault and his Aug. 1 death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Police said they found Micenhamer lying face down in the 3900 block of West Madison Street on July 16, suffering from massive head injuries.

Micenhamer, of the 200 block of South Sacramento Boulevard, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and then transferred to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 1, the medical examiner’s office.

    No arrests have been reported.

And now, four months later, we imagine the chances are less likely?

Remember when the Department would hold back two or three dozen homicides from the official count, and then amend the final count in February of the next year to claim we didn't hit a certain milestone? Since Chicago just hit 600, there's no need to keep these Death Investigations off the books now.

What was that TV Show? "48 Hours?"

Whatever did 48 hours refer to?

Maybe CPD can get Detective Lily from "Cold Case" to solve this one?

Timely story. Every two months or so, we look back throughout the year to make sure we didn't miss anything. Lo and behold, we stumbled across a few more not/un/under-reported homicides from earlier in the year and we're only through May. There's more to come.

Thanks for the link!

CPD was ahead of their time!

We live in an age where some can't define what a “woman” is.

How can you expect them to be able to classify what constitutes “murder”?

Near the end of 2009 just before I retired there was a notice in the CO book that there were 300 open death investigations city wide. Anyone assigned to any of these cases close them out by years end. Nothing changes here.

Multiple blunt force head injuries, and the department just now thinks that is suspicious???

Hahahahahahahahahahahahha! Now that there is some damn fine investigative police work...

I wonder how many had to participate in this farce to let HQ get away with this.

If you cannot see the solution, then you are very likely part of the problem...

Once again, damn fine police work!

JR Lily? The Area 2 RBT detective that got a hummer in the Branch 38 parking lot from a hoe? The one who shot his finger off when he was in his car with a hoe when a robber approached?

JR was the dead hoe/robbed hoe “go to” Detective! RIP Lily!

In 1992 I handled a "suspicious package "job where the victim was hogtied, shot through the back, and rolled up in a rug. After getting a number for homicide my Sgt. immediately looked at me and said, your not a doctor, we don't know how this guy died.
Had to pull the first RD and get a second one for a hospitalation case report.
I still remember the looks on the detectives faces

(OT) Anyone else notice the rising number of murder-suicides across the country? Another one in Las Vegas with the husband shooting his wife and two kids dead and another child fighting for life in hospital. Bad time of year for some but seems to be more and more of this year round.

Most crimes in Chicago will never be solved. Chicago just has to much crime and no where enough resources to solve it. Just a sad reality.
