WTF is This? (UPDATE)

"sickening" doesn't even begin to describe this crap:

  • The newly installed head of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s (CCSAO) post-conviction section, which reviews claims of innocence by prison inmates, runs a side business that connects attorneys with the inmates making the claims.

On Wednesday, State’s Attorney Kim Foxx named Michelle Mbekeani, senior legal and policy advisor for justice reform in Foxx’s office, as head of the Conviction Review Unit, formerly the Conviction Integrity Unit.

Mbekeani, a lawyer who never prosecuted a case, is the Founder/CEO of Periodsentence.com, a subscription service for attorneys looking to connect with inmates claiming innocence.

One former assistant prosecutor who asked not to be identified called Mbekeani’s appointment a “sickening conflict of interest.”

“Talk about the wolf watching the hen house,” the former prosecutor said. “Imagine the business she’s going to get when attorneys know that she’s the one reviewing the cases.”

Who signed off on this?

What kickbacks are going where?

Who needs to lose their job....and go to jail for this?

When do we begin disbarring lawyers?

UPDATE: And now it's supposedly a "class project' that never got launched? That's a novel excuse to say the least. CWB reports:

  • The very next day, an online news outlet reported that Mbekeani has a side hustle: She has a company called Period that offers, for a fee, to connect attorneys with prisoners who want to pursue wrongful conviction claims, the outlet reported. Period even has a website.

That sounds like quite a conflict of interest—the news article called it “sickening”—for someone who has just been promoted to head the state’s attorney’s wrongful convictions unit.

Except Period is not a real business, Mbekeani says. It’s a concept she developed last spring with classmates enrolled in the New Social Ventures course at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where she is pursuing an MBA.

Funny how this happened after ChicagocityWire did a basic deep-dive on a public official and all sorts of info popped up. Funny how no one in the mainstream media did their due diligence and discover this potential embarrassing story first.

Let’s count the number of politicians wetting their beaks over how many years and don’t forget to add Shortshanks and his crime family, 9 1/2 fingers, Groot, though stupid, wouldn’t bypass a kickback, and last, but not least, in the ability to strong arming politicians is BJ. Now let’s count the number of employees wetting their beak who were in on this going back to when Shortshanks was ASA thru FOXX, of course including the ASAs. And finally let’s count the ever popular professions of lawyers and academia wetting their beak who teamed up to funnel money back up the ladder once the Cit Council approved the payouts. Did I forget anyone? Might the esteem professionals of the Chicago City Council of aldercreatures also be wetting their beaks who are no stranger to the DOJ conviction stats of fraud, corruption, and shakedowns? Michelle Mbekeani is but the tip of the iceberg. What enterprising MSM reports want to get their hands dirty digging thru the backroom deals?

Do you think that you have a vote, that your voice matters HELL NO NOT IN ILLINOIS, NOT IN CHICAGO. DO WHAT AUTHORITIES SAY

Since 2015, more than 600 renewable energy projects have been halted as a result of local opposition. Michigan recently joined Illinois, New York and California, each with laws that allow the state to override local actions against renewable energy projects. In January, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a bill that stops local governments from limiting or banning wind and solar power.

Oh BUT OUR DEMOCRACY -- Bullshit

When locals oppose the green agenda, state and feds officials seek ways to ignore local concerns

Hell you can't even get into a Chicago city council meeting without a reservation now cuz you may be opposed the communist agenda.

Chicago Officials Revise Rules Limiting Access to City Council Meetings After Warning – WTTW (Chicago)
December 8, 2023
Members of the public would have to make reservations and show government-issued identification to sit in the main, second-floor gallery in the Council Chambers during meetings of the Chicago City Council under revised rules designed to limit access. The 70 seats in the third-floor gallery would be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Undocumented immigrants can apply for Illinois’ drivers licenses beginning Jan. 1 – NBC5 (Chicago)

December 10, 2023

Undocumented residents will be issued a standard four-year drivers license, which will serve as a valid form of identification and be issued instead of the current Temporary Visitor Driver's License, according to a previous news release from the governor's office.

This is one example of many "transfer of wealth" schemes. While there may be a few instances of wrongful convictions there are many be awarded "certificates of innocence" which isn't even legal and then are awarded multi million dollar settlements. They put millions into a fund and these lawyers will listen to anyone with a story if they think they can secure a payout.

Why not let everyone out of jail and give each of them a million dollars. Cheaper then paying the lawyers.

Get in your glass cage!

Chicago commie mayor is a fucking liar that cannot be trusted.

Johnson administration’s early days marked by lapses in transparency
From shelter for migrants to the future of ShotSpotter, will Chicago be left in the dark, again?

"our democracy tho.."

....The city has since responded with a heavy hand. In late November, as WBEZ first reported, the council’s sergeant at arms and Rules Committee unveiled new regulations that severely limit public participation. The protocols, which the Rules Committee says will remain in effect indefinitely but have yet to be published, limit the public to the third-floor gallery, encased in glass, above the chamber. The open second floor, filled with rows of seats behind the council, is available only to people invited by a public official or who otherwise receive special permission. The second-floor gallery was previously open to speakers for public comment with seating available on a first-come-first-served basis. (The mayor’s office has said the arrangements are necessary to protect the personal safety of alderpeople and are a work in progress.)

In response, the Better Government Association (BGA), a nonprofit watchdog, sent a letter to Johnson warning that such restrictions aren’t just bad policy, they might also be illegal. The BGA identified four areas it believes run afoul of the Illinois Open Meetings Act: the new protocols create “preferential treatment among different classes of attendees,” render council chambers inconvenient to the public, and infringe on the public’s right to record and to address the council.

David Greising, the letter’s author and president and CEO of the BGA, cautioned that a judge could declare “null and void” any final votes taken during a violation of the Open Meetings Act. “Defending these rules would seem an unwise use of public resources. And, most importantly, continuing to apply these rules would deny the public’s rightful access to meetings of [the] City Council,” Greising wrote.

That’s one part of a broader move to restrict public access to City Hall. Elevators to aldermanic and mayoral offices are roped off and guarded by law enforcement, and stairs and elevators to council chambers are inaccessible until shortly before public meetings begin.

https://chicagoreader.com/news-politics/brandon-johnson-transparency/#new_tab

Brandon Johnson will end the ShotSpotter contract,” reads the public safety platform on his campaign website. “Chicago spends $9 million a year on ShotSpotter despite clear evidence it is unreliable and overly susceptible to human error. This expensive technology played a pivotal role in the police killing of 13-year-old Adam Toledo. That cannot happen again.”

As a candidate, Johnson was unequivocal: if elected, he would scrap the multimillion dollar gunshot detection technology that the city’s Office of Inspector General found “rarely produce[s] evidence of a gun-related crime.” But, now seven months into his first term, his actions speak louder than his words.

Not only has the Shotspotter contract been renewed it is now $10 million/year AND this.. now Crime stats two point oh.

Chicago's enters new short-term deal with crime database from same company as ShotSpotter

But Chicago's ShotSpotter contract remains in place – and we have learned the company even has a new deal with Chicago Police for a different technology called CrimeTracer

Oh yeah, nothing to see here - it's all for a MBA class project, not really up and running, she "might revisit it in the future", so that just basically means that now that it's been noticed, she's going to pretend it's nothing until it's forgotten about and then they'll get it up and running (probably under a different name)...

Yeah, they can forget that bullshit where the Citizens aren't allowed to attend the public meetings or comment on them unless they're invited. Totally goes against the Open Meetings Act.

SOB politicians have been dialing down the amount of time that a person can speak to basically 1 minute because they don't want to hear what the Public has to say. Fuck them - when they tried pulling that crap with me, I had 20 people I brought with who all stood up and yielded their time to me in rapid succession. Mayor lost her mind. Tooooo bad Madame Mayor.

These communists keep pushing and pushing and at some point things won't go the way they want it, and they're not going to like it.

Plenty of license plate readers on the Kennedy eh?

Pull all the plates of those involved in this crap, send them tickets, revoke their licenses and plates. Impound every vehicle. Crush the damn things into cubes.

No one has to listen to any message espoused by someone else - to force them to do so is tantamount to a trespass upon their person. Trespassing upon perhaps 10,000 other drivers to push your message? Gethefuckoutherewiththatbullshit. Next it'll be the BLM'ers again, then the whatevers. Others use the expressways, may need to use them for emergency purposes, and certainly for interstate commerce - the Feds should get involved, but you know - FJB so not likely at this point.

Everyone should file a complaint with the ARDC. The attorney review & disciplinary committee. They have to review every complaint & the attorney who is being accused must answer EVERY complaint. The Illinois State Supreme Court is the “hearing” officer. I’m sure attorneys from downstate & other areas of the state that aren’t from Crook Co. will see the irony & the conflict of interest! She can’t stay employed by the Crook Co States Attorneys Office if she loses her law license???? I’m not saying to make anything up but a conflict of interest of this magnitude might be something the ARDC would be interested in?
