Maybe they can write this into the story line:
Chicago police are investigating after a California man was carjacked at gunpoint in East Pilsen on Wednesday evening. A source familiar with the case said the victim had just arrived in town to perform set work for The Chi.
The 56-year-old victim was getting out of his red 2024 Toyota Camry in the 600 block of West 16th Street when a white sedan pulled up around 9:05 p.m., according to a Chicago police spokesperson.
Two men got out of the white car, possibly a Hyundai Elantra, displayed guns, and demanded control of the victim’s car, the spokesperson said. They struck the man in the face with a firearm, took his keys, and drove away with the Camry. The white sedan they arrived in followed them from the area.
After all, the series is described as "following "a fateful turn of events that sends shockwaves through a community on the Southside of Chicago."

So this article & the one before it & even the “bad weekend” post all have a common thread. Bad guys driving/walking up on person or persons after dark. Now bad things happen both day & night here in Shitcago but why the hell is anyone outside in this city after dark unless coming home or going to work????? It’s a shitty thing to say but stop going out to movies, dinners etc. there are plenty of places in the burbs where you’re night doesn’t end W/ talking to the police trying to identify the perpetrators. Once the stores, theaters, restaurants etc. all close the animals will have the city to themselves. Then Kurt Russell can tell city workers what the set looked like from Escape from New York & the animals can run wild penned in the shithole they created. Meanwhile decent law abiding people/folk can live their lives W/O constant fear! When even cops are victims we have no hope! Let the mayor preside over all his former students!

TV crews work 12+ hour days. Probably the only time he had to go grocery shopping was at 8-9pm. And I bet that 2024 Camry was a rental car paid for by Showtime/Paramount. The apartment too, that's how those shows roll with out-of-town hires.
Hollywood execs not gonna like those extra bills on Day 1 of filming...

Great question, and one being asked by every member of Chicago's local filmworkers' union.
Apparently one of the show's higher-ups was like "but my friends in Los Angeles need work!" and had the show hire 4 carpenters at an out-of-state rate, with paid travel, paid lodging, rental cars, plus a stipend.
Instead of hiring any of the ~1,500 presently unemployed union members here - who are all still starved for work after the 7 month Writer & Actor strikes - at the much cheaper Illinois hourly rate, with no extra costs.
