Crime is down....except for those pesky robberies. The 55% jump there is enough to drive the cumulative stats higher:
There were nearly 4,900 robberies between July 1 and Nov. 26, an increase of more than 55% compared to the total for the previous five months. That’s the largest increase in robberies between consecutive five-month periods since at least 2001 — the earliest year tracked in the city’s online crime portal.
Humboldt Park, West Garfield Park and East Garfield Park saw the highest robbery rates in the city during the July-November surge, with essentially one robbery reported for every 200 residents in those communities during those five months, according to the analysis by WBEZ. Humboldt Park, along with the Austin and West Town community areas, also saw the highest number of total robberies reported during that time.
And then the Slum Times quotes this idiot:
- Lance Williams, a professor of urban community studies at Northeastern Illinois University, also was unsure why robberies have increased so dramatically, but said what stands out to him is that “again, the Black neighborhoods that have been struggling continue to struggle.”
Williams, who works closely with several Chicago-area violence prevention groups, says the issue will not be solved by police but by investments in the community.
“You have to invest in the infrastructure of the neighborhood,” Williams said. “You have to bring viable businesses into the neighborhood. You got to bring in functioning social services, invest in the schools in order to help those individuals. And the city is just overwhelmed with that task.”
Businesses aren't going to open in a neighborhood that they know there is a 100% chance of being robbed....and only a slightly less chance of an employee being shot. And when that neighborhood issue expands to encompass the entire city, then businesses are not going to open locations (or remain open) in those cities.
As for schools, well....enrollment is DOWN double digit percentages, while property taxes and costs are UP double digits. How is that happening Lance? Oh wait, you're a "professor" of urban studies....not economics.

Best investment that I ever made was getting a master’s degree in criminal justice. There are two reasons. Back in the day there was a federal program that paid for tuition and books AND my department gave me a 7.5% pay boost, something that I’ve even getting since 1975. An old guy can buy a lot of old fashions with that.
But the best part I got to associate with dumb fucks like this guy. According to this guy’s grandfather, the key to ending crime in the community was to legalize drugs. That would take the profit out of the drug trade along with its associated violence. I said at the time that the drug dealers are not going to stop being criminals, they just going to change to other criminal endeavors.
Well, drugs are de facto legal. Synthetic opiates are available at a fraction of their historical prices. No one is spending a couple of hundred dollars a day to stay well. What are the former peddlers going to do? Work at real job, where they have to show on time and work hard? (I’m sorry, my white supremacy is bleeding through, because I’ve learn from the Chicago and other teachers unions, that white supremacy is manifested by such values e.g. showing up on time, being a daddy opposed to being a baby daddy, delayed gratification, , etc.). Robbery’s are up because the corner drug dealer’s job has been eliminated. As someone else pointed out, robbery pays better.
Invest in the neighborhood? There are a lot of broken down houses in the hood. When white people buy those wrecks and rebuild them they are racists gentrifying and destroying the community. We as a country are doomed. Your mayor is right out of South Africa.

Any cop with more than 5 years on with the city of chicago could technically consider himself to be a “ professor of urban studies.” The fact that this man gets paid by a university to “educate” kids about urban studies is laughable. This is what is wrong with America right now.
This is the same stuff liberals/progressives have been saying for decades about the "root causes" of crime, etc. Crime is always blamed on social and systemic problems rather than on people who choose to engage in criminal actions. It's a fundamental refusal to accept human nature and to view people as responsible moral agents who must be held accountable for their choices and actions. Pritzker heir removed as co-host of Biden fundraising event following sexual misconduct claim
Matthew Pritzker, an heir to one of America's richest and most politically connected families, has been quietly dropped from the invitation as a co-host for President Joe Biden's first fundraiser in Los Angeles following accusations of unwanted sexual acts and a $25 million lawsuit.
In a lawsuit filed on Nov. 23 in New York State Supreme Court, attorneys for a woman using the pseudonym “Jane Doe” allege that “Pritzker engaged in sexual acts with Plaintiff without her consent, and while she was incapacitated, and could not provide consent.”
The alleged offenses took place on May 31, 2009.
