$20 Million....Going...Gone!

Oh Lord, give us a sign that CPS has far too much money for their failing business model:

  • Less than three weeks after informing parents that general education students would not receive busing for the remainder of the academic year, Chicago Public Schools announced it would buy and operate up to 50 electric school buses over the next three years through a $20 million grant from the Environmental Protection Agency.

Thank you Lord....even though it's an EPA grant, it's still taxpayer money.

Wait, what's this? Lib-tarded National Public Radio?

  • The Arctic air gripping much of the U.S. put Tesla drivers in Chicago into a pickle on Monday. Many of the cars sat in long lines at Supercharger stations, their owners saying the cold sapped the electric vehicles' normal ability to charge — and keep a charge.

In some cases, tow trucks were called to move the cars, in scenes that were relayed by local TV news. The Tesla owners' plight became an emblem of the misery extreme cold is inflicting on wide sections of the U.S. (more on that below).

Is no one reading the news?

Twenty million could have educated a lot of kids....who won't be going to school next winter.

Electric Vehicles do not work well in the heat or the cold.

Air conditioning takes a lot of electric battery power.
Resistance Heating takes a lot of electric battery power.

You would think electric school buses would be a great fit for the school bus model. You have a lot of school bus use in the mornings, a little in the middle of the day for kindergartners, and a lot at the end of the school day. Throw in a few field trips and some after school activities and athletic teams trips.

There is multiple windows of time to recharge every bus during the day, and all night for 12-15 hours.

They should be able to make that work.

A bigger danger is these buses randomly explode in how, rapidly exploding flames if the batteries are damaged. Can they evacuate the bus after an accident if the bus topples over on its side or facing up or down slopes? If not? A lot of children will die horrifically in fires.

Oh but electric vehicles are the greatest thing since sliced bread lol!
Every automaker rolling out all kinds of EV models. Planning to be all electric within the next 10-15 years.
Nobody wants an electric vehicle. They’re not selling like dealers had anticipated. And now we see that really cold weather is an issue for these vehicles and maybe they’re not so great and reliable.

Biden was at a presser a few months ago at a rail facility announcing we are investing in battery powered rail locomotives. I think they said they had a range of about 200 miles. That’s not much if you consider a train going to Milwaukee from Chicago is about 90 miles. Two double trips a day is not much. Some of the freight trains are over 100 cars, will they be able to pull that? And the cold diminishes the battery. Still using fossil fuel to charge the batteries. Why not just use the fossil fuel to begin with. This is all folly so China can provide the batteries to us if we are good.

As much as I'd like to bash EVs, I'm shaking my head at all the people who should have paid attention in basic high school chemistry or physics class. All batteries act like this in extreme cold, be it your EV, your iPad, flashlight, etc. It's why I wouldn't own one of the current crop unless I lived in Southern AZ or NM. Even then, EVs are problematic in extreme warm monsoon conditions near salty water. Look at the ones that became fire hazards in Fort Myers after the hurricane.

Of course, Mayor Blowjob wouldn’t be read up on these issues, even though he's supposed to be an educator. Avoiding EVs for public fleets has nothing to do with politics, just basic science. ICE vehicles just offer more usability under multiple conditions. Having a low IQ and a welfare mentality, Blowjob would accept any handout the stupid feds offer, even if it was a grant to buy a fleet of rusted used 40 year old Yugos.

The news segments with dead Teslas strewn all over the place and their smug, douchebag owners freezing their ass off waiting for a tow were absolutely priceless. I wonder what it cost these lemmings to pay a tow truck to haul their glorified golf cart around searching for a working charger.

And they want to make this shit mandatory in these leftist blue states. LOL!!!!!

Hybrid EVs may be the best option for electric vehicles.

You can use the ICE heat in the winter to keep the battery warm or warm it up before charging it up. The waste beat can also keep the passengers warm in cold temperatures, so you don't have to drain the battery. If you cannot find a working charger, the hybrid engine can keep the battery from being damaged by a complete discharge. If it's properly designed, you could be able to limp home using the engine alone.

In the Summer, the engine can drive the air conditioner and cool the battery too.

It's just a matter of time before someone steals those $20M in buses or expensive parts in them and CPS reports them missing like anything else, including those 77,500+ laptops at a cost to taxpayers of $23M.

WBEZ reported CPS spent $308M on computers/software for 3 1/2 years, ending in April 2023. The average pay for a CPS tech coordinator is $68K with the minimum requirement to be one us a 2-yr degree. A school like Steinmetz HS with a 65% graduation rate has 2 Tech Coordinators at $90K and $80K salaries.

And Tech Coordinators like these two can't keep track of laptops? According to CPS, Steinmetz 2 techies couldnt find close to 700 laptops of the 2000 (at a cost of $400 each) given out to students without tracking devices during the COVID e-Learning. This while the same laptops issued to teachers had tracking devices.

No worries as CPS wasn't holding students responsible for the cost of a lost laptop until the 2022-23 school year. If a student lost one last or this school year, they're supposed to reimburse CPS the costs when they graduate, drop-out, or transfer out of CPS. Since nearly 80% of CPS students are considered low income, a majority of the reimbursement for missing laptops is and was forgiven by CPS.

Now, with all this in mind, how will CPS maintain and keep track of electric buses that don't start in extremely cold weather like the ones in Minnesota didn't and their school districts got rid of them?

CPS doesn't provide drivers for buses, outside companies do. How will CPS managed these buses with no department setup for this? Will CPS create a whole new department specifically for the electric buses and hire multiple insiders at $100K salaries to run the department, including route management? Where will CPS find drivers that can be vetted properly when there's a nationwide bus driver shortage?

What schools get the electric buses?

This has waste, disaster, and misappropriation written all over it.

Getting back to CPS e-Learning. Why didn't CPS have an e-Learning Day on Tuesday instead of calling off school due to the weather? Most Chicagoland districts did and somehow they found a way to make e-Learning work, including catholic schools like St. Patrick HS.

Is this because most CPS schools only averaged a 50% participation rate during COVID? So, an e-Learning Day is a waste of time for CPS as will the makeup day that'll be dropped into the last week of school when little to no students are in the buildings.

CPS is stupid on purpose.

Yes, for all the EV fanboys out there. Lithium batteries operate at a greatly reduced level when it's below freezing, and even worse when below zero. Another fun fact: 98% of EV owners own another ICE car. In other words, the EV is a novelty or toy. They have a gas powered car to fall back on. The EV is Not ready for prime time; especially a frigid Chgo. winter!

Electric Batteries- Someone sent me this:

Lithium batteries come in may chemistry’s, most EVs use LIFePo4 batteries, they cannot be charged below freezing, it destroys that type of battery. That is probably why they will not charge.

Interesting trend is libs moving to places like Duluth and upper Wisconsin. Apparently it’s a common belief amongst them that they will be able to ride out the “rising temp apocalypse” they’ve been programmed to fear. They don’t understand that the destruction of fossil fuel industry will ultimately cause them to freeze to death. One of the upsides to this is that it’s making red states redder and concentrating kooks in the upper Midwest and northeast.
Imagine what will happen in cold weather, blue state shitholes when the power goes out for several days in mid January after gas heat has been banned.

I’m baffled as to why Democrats are convinced that EVs are more environmentally friendly in their minds?! Are none of them aware of the Earth minerals that are strip mined to create these giant batteries, the fairly large amount of petroleum products used to create the actual vehicle, the increased reliance on coal and/or nuclear for the charge, the disposal of all these elements once the vehicle has lived its use, and the absolute environmental toxic dump that emits from these vehicles once they catch fire. Why are politicians forcing legislation in this direction?! Sadly, I probably already know this answer…. self enrichment.

Thanks, but no thanks. I’ve been saving my rubles for a used F150 or a Tundra someday. By then, the environmental communists will probably make it near impossible to own one.

Typical corrupt Chicago. They spend money on something everyone knows won’t work only to scrap it later when it doesn’t work. Electric does not work well in the cold you idiots! Pay attention! And when you run the heat it drains what little battery charge you have. They can also catch on fire. Is that a good idea with a bus full of little kids?

$400,000 a bus. This is grant money that creepy Joe is tossing out around the country. My county on the Sunshine Coast of Florida (Tampa area) is getting the same grant, dollar for dollar. $20 million for 50 buses. Although the population of my county is under a million people and the temps rarely drop under 55 degrees.

Your all missing the real reason C.P.S. has to buy electric school buses. On May 7 2021, J.B. Pritzker dedicated The LION ELECTRIC SCHOOL BUS COMPANY in Joliet (technically in Channahon).
On Aug. 11 2022 Pritzker and all the other Democratic big shots had another dedication for the humongous factory, and this was the building of the first Lion Electric School Bus IN JOLIET !!!(Channahon). An innocent reporter for a small ad paper asked, "I know you don't make everything like tires and windows here, but how much of this bus was made here?" Silence. Crickets. "WELL, THAT CONCLUDES THE PRESS CONFRENCE". Apparently the parts were brought down from LION's headquarters in Canada and assembled here, but a lawyer told me that assembled and built are the same thing. The third J.B. dedication was July 21, 2023 to show a shitload of built school buses. Most school districts in the country are buying a few Electrics to try out for their area. FIFTY ELECTRIC SCHOOL BUSES FOR A TRIAL IS INSANE! They cost 2 to 3 times the cost of fossil fuel vehicles, not counting the additional recharging infostructure. Pritzker has poured your state money into all his E.V. projects, and none of these companies can seem to break even!

Lithium Ion batteries can get damaged if they charge when its too hot or too cold. The charger and battery will not charge or accept a charge if either extreme is reached. These battery's also will loose their charge faster in cold weather. This along with the car interior heater running for the occupants reduces your range drastically. The people waiting with their cars at 20 percent charge killed their batteries running the cars heat in the cold. This is nothing new, and has been common knowledge as long as Lithium Ion batteries have been around. Oh and they can overheat causing a thermal run away. They self destruct, burn and you can't put them out, until there destruction is complete. Other than those items they are great.

Back in about 2007 the water reclamation district with great fanfare bought the largest order of electric vehicles for a government agency. Tiny shitbox Chinese minivans and pickups the size of a golf cart for over 20,000. Each. Couple hundred for the plants. Lots of photo ops and press conferences on how they were saving the planet . A year later they were all parked in their private scrap yard out back at the stickney plant . No press conferences. At the time they cost as much as new ford rangers or similar. They were also doing all kinds of other wasteful crap to save the planet that always failed. Not their money . Did read they were thrilled to appoint a black tranny to the head of this hidden 8 billion a year agency . I’m sure it was for the children. Political appointees are the dumbest people I have ever met .
