Eddie "Sex Fiend" Johnson tried to get it down to a reprimand, but the then-captain still took 3 days.
Note - he had this CR number before he was made commander, and he promptly embarrassed the Department so egregiously, that a Deputy Chief (JS for god's sake) was compelled to get a number on him for lying about easily verifiable numbers.
This could have been stopped after he fucked up his first "merit" promotion, his first harassment CR number, his first Civil Rights violation, his first divorce, but ....

Last summer on a 31st street deployment I saw that fool yell at a 13 or 14 year old girl that was trying to return to her parents that were on a boat in the harbor. she was crying and he was yelling at her, He said the beach is closed. She was trying to explain that she went to purchase ice cream for her family. He said he didn't care, "THE BEACH IS CLOSED". I didn't see him yelling at any gang bangers on motorcycles that were riding through, just little girls. I couldn't believe it at first. Then I thought about it and figured that about sums up the current state of supervisors. I'm sure the entire incident was captured on camera.

Sounds to me like a hit and run traffic crash as well. The vehicle was in motion when it struck the pedestrian. Did this "earned, not given" Capt. do a traffic crash report? The pedestrian should have insisted on a crash report and gone to the ER. Being struck by a vehicle, no matter how slow, can really mess up ones neck/back and cause emotional trauma.

I’ve noticed the school near me blocks off the street, they don't use horses marked “City of Chicago” they just painted the schools name on each barricade, so it could be just that a blind eye is turned in these situations.
Way back when I was a kid, we all had more sense not to run or play in the streets after dismissal. Things are different now, it seemed as if the drivers had the right a way back then and everyone crossed at the crosswalks and were pretty much orderly, we also understood getting hit by a car hurt. Now it seems the pendulum has swung and pedestrians do as they please, running out from between parked cars, walking in the street instead of using the sidewalk. I guess you can chalk it up as one small step contributing to the breakdown of our orderly society.

back in the day when I was a patrol boy in elementary school, one of the PTA mothers that oversaw us gave every kid on a corner a brick and said if anybody drives past you or refuses to listen just smash their back window out with the brick.
she said no one's ever going to complain because then they'll get in trouble for disobeying the directive of a traffic control officer.
so every kid had a brick on the corner and we usually didn't have any trouble.
one day some asshole goes blasting by a station wagon refuses to stop almost runs over some kids, the patrol boy picks up his brick and whips it at the back window of the car and smashes it out.
guy gets out starts screaming patrol boy says what are you going to do about it call the police. guy got back in his car left.
every time we saw that car after that the guy would stop he'd wave be real fucking polite.

I couldn't agree more. The job is debilitating. It was never the bad guy who made me hate the job, it was the department. If you don't play their game, you are on the outs for your entire career.
I knew I was being used and not appreciated by supervisors who were incompetent, stupid, lazy and corrupt. Yet I still worked hard every day, for myself, for my self respect and self pride. And for the victims who deserved help. That was the only way I could get thru each day of work.
The day I retired after 32 years, I burned my uniforms and every award and every piece of paper associated with cpd. I don't own any police-y attire or knick knacks. I moved out of state over 10 years ago and have never returned to that rotten city or state.
God bless all of you cpd who experienced this and feel the same.

I know you don’t like him but I saw that video, he did not get his ass handed to him at all, truth be told. He is a pompas ass though to be sure !
