Thinking of moving to Tennessee?:
Nashville’s police department changed its standards to increase the number of female officers that make up its workforce. As part of an initiative to make the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department’s 30% female, the MNPD dropped an ability test for police recruits and replaced it with an easier agility test, WSMV reported. The change resulted in more recruits passing, particularly women.
The original test, known as the Cooper Standards Test, “measured pushups, sit ups, a 300-meter sprint and a 1.5-mile run,” a report from the MNPD said. During an 18-month period between 2019 and 2021, a total of 1138 recruits attempted to join the MNPD. Of those, 72 (6%) failed the Cooper Standards Test.
In 2021, Police Chief John Drake signed the 30×30 initiative to make women 30 percent of the MNPD by 2030. Part of this drive involved dropping the Cooper Standards Test in favor of the Physical Agility Test which “consists of a 99-yard agility run, a rescue simulation (dummy drag), chain link fence climb, solid wall climb and a 500 yard run,” according to the MNPD.

This isn't just reducing the standards (which all police departments did for age and gender anyway). This is obliterating any effort at having an actual ability to do what is required of police officers in dire life-threatening emergencies.
If you're retiring and moving to Tennessee, be aware.

It’s the same thing here half the females tank on the sit ups and 1.5 mile run. Imagine if they had to do push ups? They’re put through very few actually pass every part and earn their spot but if Chicago were to ever have a drop in female recruits half the bosses wouldn’t have new meat to have an affair with.
I hear people talk about moving to red states, but unless it's locked down like DeSantis and Florida, it doesn't matter. Even states like Tennesse or Texas have large cities that are like ugly blue warts on their red faces.
Stay out of the big cities, even in red states. They get infiltrated first. Then the stupid liberal policies creep up and start to turn everything to shit. Memphis always was a shithole. Chattanooga used to be nice, but is now a shithole. Nashville is a good time, but the criminals saw an opportunity and moved on in. Knoxville is on its way to being the Seattle of Tennessee. A lot of people from Illinois, California, New York, etc. are moving to Tennessee. They mostly say they're fleeing the liberal craziness of those places, but we all know at least some of them will bring their blue votes to red states. It's only a matter of time.
Everybody knows the reddest red states have blotches of blue in them. Tennessee has Nashville, Texas has Austin, Florida has Broward County etc...etc...
Why would anyone bother leaving Chicago just to trade it for a different blue city , only where you don't know anyone?
In America we have a president who has been judged to demented and old to stand trial for his obvious crimes but he's still President of the country. What me worry.
So much for wanting the best and the brightest! Tests and competitions are a way to get the best and the brightest. Can you imagine no tests for special forces in the military. Unbelievable! What are they thinking. Just waisting taxpayers money and not giving them the best they could have had.
Thankfully this is NOT inclusive of the whole state of Tennessee. Nashville has pretty much become as liberal a city as it gets and the powers that be fully understand to whom they need to cater.
Burly men who aren’t afraid to go hands on with drunken assholes while projecting a no-nonsense image will be replaced by non-threatening, eas(ier) on the eyes deescalation dames. It’s better for business this way. Until it isn’t.

This new test does not sound easier. But how about this: if you pass a tougher test, you get paid more. In addition, you can take these tests each year, and get paid for passing. We have the physical agility for cops every year. Why not there?

Way too many northerners, especially from Chiraq have moved to Nashville over the last decade. It’s always been a democrat city but the newcomers are bringing Logan Square, Andersonville, and Evanston values into the mix. They don’t assimilate, they colonize. They also blew real estate prices through the roof. That said, TN is solid. The state is run decently. Governor is a squishy Republican , legislature is MAGA. You can find affordable, safe areas in a nice community. Just not in Nashville or Memphis.
This reminds me of the 010th District when I was there. None of the females were the police or capable of being the police. All most all ran to CAPS, DCO or desk positions. One even ran to Flordia. Now she's a dog out there and plays on Tiktok all day. "The west side is still popping y'all". Keep on salsa dancing sister's in blue. What a joke.

I remember when I went through the academy in the late 80's and we had that 6 foot wall which was tough but some of us female recruits climbed it. The training was tough and the instructors were brutal but we did it. Can you imagine the new recruits training with Marsh, Frost, Tremaine, Tero....

Plenty of other occupations that give females preferential treatment over males, so stop with the failed social engineering already.
Many years ago, now, when I was taking the "power test" I finished the run early, and was watching the rest of the potential recruits struggling to run laps on the track near U of Chicago. One of the gym instructors suggested to me that I go back out there and help some of them get across the finish line in time. I did so albeit begrudgingly as we were given over a month's notice to prepare for the test, but these were my experiences...
I approached two female members who were walking and out of breath and told them they had better pick up the pace or they would never make the cut off time in the run. In a heavily labored wheeze, one of them told me as she stopped, bent over and grabbed her knees for support and said "I should have quit smoking"...Sensing no point in helping that one any further, I ran up to the one who was walking away as there was an announcement of the split time for making the test. It was something like a 2 minute warning as I recall.
I don't remember how long that recruit had to go, but I offered to hold her hand and run alongside her. She did grab my hand and we jogged the slowest lap (or two) I have ever run in my life. At one point she pulled away and could barely go any further. I told her she wasn't going to make it if she didn't start running...Well, I got her around in time (amazingly) she passed. I don't remember if the other female made it or not. The runner I helped never even said "thank you"...of course she didnt have the breath to do so.
Fast forward, the one I helped was in my academy class. She was always lagging behind in gym class and complaining about how hard it was. She also complained when we were doing "tactical" restraints on each other. She just seemed like a "miserable" person, and I never had another conversation with her again.
I regret ever helping her on the "power test". I should have let her "walk" in over the time limit and retest.
This was over 25 years ago...I can only imagine how much worse it is now.
We are well on are way to a society that looks like the one you see in the Stallone movie, "Demolition Man!"

The idea of that obstacle course is more practical. Though that specific one is soft. Push-ups, sit & reach, etc. isn’t always a good indication of strength and ability. How many male coppers can just barely pass the sit and reach, or can’t pass it at alll? But some of them are the ones you want coming to you if you’re in a 10-1 situation. I know small female coppers who can do pushups well, but I would never want them backing me up. I also know a couple female coppers who can’t do a push-up, but can punch like a man. Or can’t do push-ups but can easily bench 58% of their body weight, or whatever percentage it is. Obstacle courses should be the standard, but they should definitely be more challenging than this one.

The point is that you shouldn't start out fat, weak and lazy. Comparing new recruits to some 20+ year veteran with a bad back and bad knees isn't exactly apples to apples. What do you think happens to fat, weak and lazy over the next 20 years or so? They don't magically get into shape and become top tier officers. Your attempt to justify hiring just any woman, regardless of her ability, over a qualified man, is the reason this country is so fucked. Why hire the best and brightest when you can hire the one that checks the most boxes on the diversity bingo card, right? Idiot.

As a F/2 I prepped for and passed each power test and once in the academy me and another guy would come in early and run before class with the ones still struggling cause that what family does (or did. There was even a classmate who struggled with firearms training so I helped her and encouraged her and got the instructors to do extra training cause that's what family does. I also set her up with a wonderful guy that she ruined. I do regret helping her also not only cause she never said thank you or was appreciative but also cause she did nothing but lie and backstab and try to talk to my ex and his family about me without telling me but thankfully I found out from mutual friends and cut her out of my life.
CPD now allows merit promotions for Sergeants with score under 70% .

Not disagreeing abput body strength, but we do need both men and women on this job. That said, years ago I lifted weights amd ran( always had trouble with the running. ). I should have had a trainer. If the test was posted publicly, women coukd train for it. In addition, not many men want to take this test. I talked to some the other day. I said this dept. Has decent pay and benefits, but no ok ne wants the job.

Yes, everyone ( well almost everyone) has to pass the Illinois physical standards. They say is it necessary to ensure a recruit officer will be able to meet the demands of the job. But wait a few years and there are no guarantees that the same recruit can meet any physical fitness standards. I see plenty of short overweight women in uniform these days.They can't run, they can't fight, they can't defend themselves.

In an ideal world, that would be the best policy. In the real world, that would result in the already extremely understaffed police departments being even more shorthanded, probably by another 50% or more.
Nashville is turning into Southern California. They're moving in from there.
