Ultra liberal Canada has taken bending over backwards to criminals to another level:

Canadian police recommend leaving car fobs outside to deter armed thieves from breaking into homes. The thieves target cars, not other belongings, making it easier for them to steal without confrontation. This shocking advice raises concerns about home security and personal safety.
And, since Canada has a very ingrained anti-gun / anti-self-defense tradition, thieves can pretty much break into houses with impunity and take what they like.
Where did they come up with this completely stupid idea?
Some residents in California's Bay Area communities have begun leaving their parked vehicles with the trunks left open in the hope of discouraging auto break-ins.
Photos posted on social media and shared by the San Francisco-based news station KGO-TV showed two SUVs parked side by side along an Oakland street. The trunk doors of both vehicles were open, and the vehicle owners could not be seen in the immediate vicinity.
The person who posted the photo on social media watched the vehicle owners leave their trunk doors open and walk away, the station reported. The person added a caption to the photo that read, "Imagine having to clean out your car and leaving it open in public, just so people won't break your windows."
Ah yes....California. We should have guessed.

I saw this ridiculous police capt. or whatever he was saying this as he was addressing the public. This has to be one of the most absurd things I ever heard. Oh, very yes... though the Criminal Code provides for personal self-defence, or the defence of another person, it does not provide for the defence of property.
That being said, should you find yourself in the position of having to defend your person, no matter how justified, you are now in a very difficult spot. You are being second-guessed like mad, there is no benefit of doubt, juries are typically hostile, and if you don't thread the needle exactly right you will go to jail.
I appreciate that using deadly force is not to be taken lightly, but there is a difference between putting the focus on the home invader (Why were you trying to break in?) and putting the focus on the homeowner (How dare you resisting the home invasion!). The defender is placed under extreme scrutiny, and it deters actions other than calling the police, which around here are about 45 minutes away.
I know it's just a car, and that's what insurance is for, right? It's just a home, and it's only stuff, right? Not worth a human life, amirite?
For now, this is largely a city problem, but that is changing and fast. People gonna have to make some choices.

I recently visited Asheville. Good food, some cool sights, a few good people, but way too dirty and liberal for my tastes. NC is changing, and not in a good way. Your castle doctrine won't last much longer if the big cities keep trending liberal. The south isn't the conservative safe zone it once was. Atlanta, Knoxville, Louisville, Asheville, anything near the Mississippi delta, Austin, etc. have all embraced criminals, lgbtqrstuv, anti-police, anti-military, woke protest culture. They'll ruin their states like Chicago ruined Illinois. The big cities keep the states going financially, while destroying them in terms of safety and morality. Any city that embraces how "weird" and "quirky" and "different" they are, is going to ruin the entire state. Over 70 "artists" pulled out of SXSW events because it's majorly sponsored by the US Army and defense contractors. I'm pretty aware of most music acts from the past few decades, and I read through the list of acts pulling out of SXSW, but I didn't recognize a single one. No big loss for anyone looking to enjoy anyone actually known for their music, but a sign of the problems brought by cities that embrace such nonsense. Why do they disagree with the policies of these defense contractors and the US Army? Because they support Israel in its efforts to defend its people against terrorist scum. All these pro-palestine morons being swindled by social media and Hollywood into backing literal terrorists who raped, murdered, beheaded innocent people. It's disgusting and sad, but the liberals have all decided that Israel is bad and hamas is good. I'm sure Asheville has its fair share of Palestine flags flying.
