No Federal Charge?

And why haven't they encrypted Citywides?

  • A man is facing a misdemeanor charge after a Chicago police sergeant allegedly caught him broadcasting bogus information on one of CPD’s radio channels this week.

Most radio frequencies used by the police department have been encrypted, meaning they cannot be heard or transmitted on without special equipment, for well over a year. However, a handful of frequencies, known as “citywide” channels, remain unencrypted.

Dontre Ervin, 31, is accused of using an inexpensive walkie-talkie and a headset to transmit on one of those channels, “Citywide 1,” which is used by some specialized units, like cops who patrol the CTA.

Officers began hearing unauthorized broadcasts on the channel late last week, according to a law enforcement source. While cops in the field could hear the transmissions, their dispatchers could not.

The government will roll out every single federal charge they can when the offender....

Ah, why bother?

Yes, Federal time for spoof transmissions on public safety radio. Where has the FCC been? Where is OEMC? They have the technology. They don't have the leadership, it seems. Flip side is, the encrusted radio system sounds awful. Throw in; screaming (yes cops scream on the radio), running, walking all over each other, and it turns useless. The fact is: IT's NOT AN IMPROVEMENT! This deserves a transparent and honest examination. Officers must have confidence in the radio system. Let's do better.

Just one more thing the Chinese are shipping into our country to help cause disruption. Drugs and switches are joined by open transmit radios.
What's next ?

Exactly ! Why bother ! Keeping making those arrests and running and running, risking your job all to see the offender get a slap on the wrist !!! Not worth the result !

As a kid, "Radio" Ratliffe used a cheap broadcast station in his basement to raise havoc. He knew how to hack police channels also.

Rumor has it that they ran out of money for radio encrypting because the migrants needed food and shelter. So they skimp on public safety but not illegals.

Didn't Brandon say during his campaign that he would not encrypt zone radio traffic in interest of "community transparency?" That said using a digital system even unencrypted can limit the access of an unauthorized radio.

There is a proposed Illinois law which would require more access to encrypted police radio traffic to the media.

Some of the funniest shit I ever heard was cat calls on the Radio. They best was Russ Valleyfield pretending to be car 41 and having Joe "Disney" Jori run all around 007 for a meet. Russ also use to call his buddies for a mobile as "Officer peanut".. "Hey yall, this is peanut.. this apartment ain't got no heat!".

Fun story. US troops were in a gunfight with the Taliban. One of the Afghan Interpreters had an unencrypted radio and found the freq that the Taliban were using. He pretended to be one of them during the airstrikes. He was able to adjust the airstrikes by asking, "Are you OK, what is your location, we will send help".

Apparently over 40 dispatchers are leaving/resigning/being fired this week due to phony Covid era loans. OT is expected to go through the roof. No word on how Brandon will replace these people. It doesn’t look good for the summer.

This is all part of re-imaging police operations under the democrats - chaos. The Department is in shambles, poorly administered by incompetent individuals.

I believe that the media is making a strong objective to scrambling the radio frequencies. That might be why City wide is still in the clear.

So they don't need to steal a police car, ditch it with the doors open in the middle of the street to broadcast bullshit now? They've learned since the Summer of Love?

Good to know.

Guaranteed, the FCC won't give a shit. They don't take reports about interference from anyone but the license holder. If you listen to 1620AM for the automated traffic reports and you're heading up the Kennedy, you'll often hear a spanish-speaking channel intruding on it...

After sunset, you can hear a Canadian radio station broadcasting some really weird shit - filipino music, and some other languages too. Turns out that station's antenna is supposed to be aimed "horizontally" across Canada so the USA can't pick it up, but their antenna has shifted position and now beams right into Chiraqi airspace... And when the Canadians don't turn down their power at night, the signal goes even farther.

FCC's been told about both of these ongoing incidents and DGAF... respond that they only take reports from the license holder.

So unless and until The Shitty of Chiraq files a complaint, no one gonna du nuffin! Just like everything in the Shitty.

The most expedient thing to resolve this problem would be to engage the services of a friendly amateur radio operator, triangulate the offender's location, and then deal with the situation accordingly.... If that offending radio were putting out such a strong signal that it fucked up the BWC, so much the better!

During the summer of love, I was listening to several districts simultaneously to learn whether or not that shit was going to head over by some relatives... fortunately it didn't. I can't even imagine having to rely on the news media to under report all that was going on then, or dealing with some bullshit delay...

When hordes of Orcs are marauding, every second counts.

The best radio traffic I ever heard was years ago, in the old 13th district. Female officers on days says,” hold me down in the area, I’m going in for a lube job.” Man, we laughed our asses off for the rest of the period. Classic

Depends on your definition of accident. I'm as big a cynic as anyone, but I watched the video and that ship was actually out of control with the power going on and off. The lights were going on and off with huge plumes of black smoke from the exhaust as they tried restarting the engines. I'd say more negligence than accident.

The best radio traffic I ever heard was during the civil unrest at the Columbus statue. A PO had a female arrestee and asked over the zone “Where is the female processing area?”. A rogue radio responded with “Lightfoot’s house”. I am still laughing over that one.
