WTF Paul?
- Former Chicago mayoral candidate Paul Vallas told a federal judge that convicted ex-Ald. Edward M. Burke is “worthy of whatever leniency you see fit to provide” in an early batch of what will likely be several letters of support ahead of Burke’s sentencing this summer.
This appeared mere days after Vallas guest-posted on John Kass's blog:

While we don't argue with the fact that violent crime has surged....in fact, we were warning about years ago before it became stylish to mention it....but one of the underlying reasons violent crime surges is an overall disregard for the Rule of Law and white collar criminals being given leniency.
A violent criminal usual victimizes one person at a time:
- a single mugging
- a single burglary
- a battery or robbery
- most gunshot victims are still single victim crimes....murders, too
But white collar crime victimizes thousands of taxpayers, sometimes tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands of victims at a time. And excusing the crime with leniency revisits the damage done again.
Throw the book at Burke. Maybe he dies in prison. He made his choices.

It's not simply white collar crime, but rather political corruption going unpunished or severely underpunished. That's a very specific subset of white collar crime that exposes how broken and easily manipulated our criminal justice system is. The connected go mostly unpunished, with one or two fall guys getting light sentences, while the underlying corruption continues unabated. Suggesting leniency for corrupt government officials seems to suggest you support or excuse their corrupt actions, which then calls into question your own set of values and potential for corruption. It's no great stretch of the imagination to think a Chicago politician would dabble in corruption, but to take the position of recommending leniency for corrupt officials, makes it less of a stretch. Let your buddies rot for their crimes, and keep your mouth shut, and maybe the citizens will be fooled into thinking you're not just as corrupt.
The blue states won’t be happy until everything is destroyed.
Based on this, Paul Vallas was not a worthy candidate.
Similar to John McCain and Mitt Romney.

Burke was and is still very connected. Yes, he was found guilty. However, the machine made sure he doesn't lose his law license and I can almost bet everything he will get to keep his pension.
