Big Fire

Not a good day to be dressed in turnout gear fighting a giant bonfire:

  • What began as a two-alarm fire in the city’s West Town neighborhood Tuesday evening grew to four alarms and a hazardous materials response.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries but are expected to be OK.

At 7:45 p.m., firefighters reported that progress was being made in putting out the fire that began raging near West Hubbard Street and North Damen Avenue at about 6:30 p.m.

Stacks of wood pallets, fifteen feet high, dry as can be, a 90 degree day and fifteen MPH breezes.

We'll take the traffic control two blocks away, thank you very much.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to the two injured firefighters.

There was a big fire at a recycling facility located at 2500 W Fulton in March of this year.

Todays fire of the pallet business was on the 2000 block of west Hubbard.

About a week ago SCC mentions that James O’Keefe might have a Mayor Johnson staffer talking about rioting and fires as a developmental strategy in the area.

Firemen can sit around all day I am good with that but these fires happen rarely and happy they can do the job. We need policing though where we stay at the station until called and in the neighborhoods that do not want police give them what they want!

Ah....Brings back memories of the old 013. Watching a car with a dozen pallets tied to the roof, heading to that place to get $5 for each one. Notify the Mayor we have a pallet desert on the near west side. Only equity, and city money, can fix this critical issue right before the Convention.

A French Company wants to improve the property by constructing condos.

It is going to be known as Développement de Palettes en Bois. Very fancy.
