Mayor Brandon Johnson’s administration has denied a permit that would have allowed Chicago firefighters and paramedics to hold a two-hour march near the United Center on day two of the Democratic National Convention to press their three-year-long demand for a new contract that would include adding 20 ambulances.
“They said it was too close to the United Center, but it’s not. That’s b.s. They have a perimeter and it’s outside the perimeter,” Pat Cleary, president of the Chicago Fire Fighters Union Local 2, said Tuesday of his request for a permit.
The real reason, he said? “They don’t want the embarrassment.”
The embarrassment of being unable to settle a union contract for three plus years with an organization that (like the police) is forbidden to actually strike to force the city's hand.

The City of Chicago and their political leadership reminds me of the Russian leaders in the Soviet Union in the 1980's. When shipyard workers in Gdansk, Poland formed a union (Solidarity) and went on strike for better working conditions and pay, the Soviet leadership banned the union and did everything they could to destroy this movement and punish its leaders. Conehead and company would have been a perfect fit with communist party apparatchiks during the 1980s.

This is what happens when Democrats take the Union Vote for granted. It is very interesting to see the number of rank-n-file of Union Brothers and Sisters who are voting Republican. Sorry dude, you can't. There are labor laws that define exactly when the first day is that you can request to negotiate and then when you can begin. That's why it goes over like a lead balloon. It is called the law!
That's a very nice financial payout waiting for violating constitutional rights. I'd still march/protest let the city take corrective punishment and then file a federal lawsuit and obtain a very nice payout. This is what all the other organizations do and obtain significant payouts.
