I’ve known KJ for many years. There’s nothing wrong with getting street experience. There are a few Exempts in units that do not have street experience or leadership skills, some should be demoted and others should be sent back to patrol.. I’ve watched KJ do an excellent job working with the community and keeping Superintendent Snelling connected with the public. The only thing she lacks is street experience and she’s about to learn that quickly in 005. Congratulations Karla!

Karla Johnson has never worked the street a day in her life. The saddest part about when a career house mouse gets promoted is the department doesn't think anyone will notice. I had never heard of her when she got her Merit LT promotion given out. Every black officer I work with started screaming bloody murder. The comments were nice person send her to the CAPS office or HQ. She is scared of her own shadow. She has been a secretary for this boss her whole career. She is this bosses side piece. Not one comment said she deserved her promotion. Business as usual for the CPD

First off, blame the City and politicians. It's called "Bike the Drive" and they permit it every year. It's been going on for 23 years. If all of LSD is closed, why would you need traffic direction? You cannot get on the Drive, period. What do you expect when you detail personnel, most PPO's, at 5 AM and tell them to stand there for "presence"? Secondly, you are barking up the wrong tree. I, as well as the vast majority of the Department, are beyond tired of the constant events, details, protests, etc. that the City allows when manpower is short and exhausted. Go complain at a City Council meeting and unconcern yourself with posting your trash here, goof. I'm sure LSD is not the only access road to enable you to travel to the "country".

You’re right, there is nothing wrong with getting street experience. The issue here is, you’re supposed to have that street experience long before you make the rank of commander. The rest of us non clouted schmucks got our street experience the old fashioned way. Getting assigned to midnights as a young copper years ago, working a beat car, maybe going to tact, and putting asses on benches. That’s where you get your “street experience”. Not being a taken care of house mouse your entire career and then when you have a shiny gold star, NOW it’s time to get that experience. No, that was supposed to be obtained long ago, and the fact she has gotten to where she is with no experience speaks to the embarrassing way this department is ran. And you’re correct, it’s not specific to her, it’s a vast majority of gold stars, she’s just another loser in a long line of losers with a gold star and no “street experience”. So “the only thing she lacks” is knowledge of the job. That’s a pretty big one thing to be lacking.

One thing about KJ, she has worked on the inside, but she’s not a lazy person. I know that for a fact. She loves doing a good job. She can go hands on if she needs to. She had no problem working the street on 003 when she made sergeant.

Getting street experience is something you should do in a blue shirt, not wearing a gold star.
I wouldn't want a beginner at police work having to review my IOD, TRR or OIS. By the time anyone has a gold star, they should already have "street experience", and not just riding a beat car. They should already have done a bunch load of TRRs, earned some awards, endured some IODs, answered some complaints.

It's pretty easy to study for a promotional exam when you work at HQ, within a few hundred feet of the personnel who create the exams. Do you think she bumped into any of them at the office? Do you think maybe she was told, "you might want to study THIS order"? Nah, that would never happen.

You should follow the advice that I tell everyone. First, do not live in Chicago if you are not a City worker. It's pointless, why would you, especially with your level of complaining? Secondly, if you have to live in Chicago or travel there, stay the hell out of downtown. If it's not fests, events or other assorted parades and bullshit, it's protests creating havoc on the streets. Why would such a big complainer place themselves willingly in these situations? Reality check-Chicago sucks, deal with it or stop coming here.
The kind of person I want in authority is someone who knows what to do in that rare moment when sh*t hits the fan, and they can keep their wits and help make the necessary decisions to support those officers who found themselves face-to-face with the evil that exists on these streets.

It's true we need people to work "inside" but aren't these just armed, secretarial positions, administrative positions? And if someone has spent half or most of their career "inside" doing administrative work, do you really want to put them in a position of authority later directing resources to fight crime, reviewing TRRs, CRs, IODs, OIS? Can't the City hire civilians who can pass background, psychological tests who can work admin positions that don't ever require said admin person to use their weapons?
If you ever have to use lethal or less-than-lethal force on a subject, will you be happy knowing that the person reviewing your incident never once was in your shoes, but said person sure knows how to organize an office so that you can find Folder X in File Drawer Z?

Why is anyone surprised? we watched many score horrendous on the Sgts exam but then miraculously score high enough to be in the first couple of classes on Lts. test? not statistically impossible but highly improbable, especially when you know the people and know they're not that bright.
Nothing changes in this dept. 7th and 22nd are all that matter. Let the meritorious brainiacs do all the work since they're so great.
The 005th district deserves so much better. Not someone over promoted looking for street creed. She's in over her head but CAPS won't miss her.
