Great Job Roberto!

WTF were you thinking?

  • A high-ranking member of the Chicago Police Department has been demoted and relieved of his police powers after being charged with damaging a citizen’s vehicle during this year’s Puerto Rican Fest in Humboldt Park, according to information provided by law enforcement sources and a CPD spokesperson.

The spokesperson said that Nieves, the 53-year-old Deputy Chief of Area Five, and Officer Jacob Gies, 26, surrendered at the Central (1st) District station on Thursday to face misdemeanor charges.

While details have not been officially released, a source familiar with the matter said Nieves and Gies are accused of damaging a car in an alley behind the 2600 block of West North Avenue around 11:19 p.m. on June 7. The source said Nieves slashed a car tire while in uniform. Gies is accused of similar conduct, a second source stated.

Gies is charged with two counts of criminal damage to property, while Nieves faces one count of the same charge.

This is probably the most ridiculous self-own in the history of the CPD. You couldn't be miles away from this incident? You had to get your licks in? Dumber than a bag of hammers.

Nieves is right at the 29-year mark....but he's only 53.

Better retire now to save the pension and suck it up on the insurance costs. It's affordable at a captain pension, and we're sure the old-boy network will find him a connected job to make up for the stupidity.

So you know, theres no such thing as "Heading them off at the pass" and retiring to avoid losing the pension.
The pension bd reviews all the applications for pension and if conduct is suspected to have occurred which would forfiet the pension, payments are put on hold, til the matter is resolved, in a criminal trial.

The good news is that misdemeanor criminal damage to property is not an offense which will cause one to forfiet the pension.

A conviction for Official Misconduct IS something that will forfiet the pension.

Apparently the Commander is not being charged with that so hes in the clear.

However, to avoid future embarrassment, he should resign. especially since they demoted him This also will probably make the powers that be decide not to charge him with offical Misconduct.

A 72 .5% Captains pension is only about $10 K a month I think he can swing it, even if he has to buy insurance

Let's step off the page of judgment and look at what's actually going on here. In the history of the police department and your history here, what was the last time you saw exempts eating each other or allowing this. Granted it was not the brightest thing to do, but there were other things in play here. There are a couple layers to the story that you're not going to hear unless you are willing to dig.
This is pandering to a public that hates you. This is allowing the public to dictate your moves. Disguised as transparency with the nonsense that we are held to a higher standard. We are not held to a higher standard because if we were would be consistent. I don't want to quote Aaron Sorkin but in the movie A few Good Men, the colonel said that people sleep under a blanket of freedom that he provides and then question the manner in which he provides it. Nothing can bring more true then it does in this city. People want peace and people want non-violence and people want this and people want that but when it comes down to actually achieving those goals, you have to walk a very thin line while the people in the streets are allowed to do whatever they want. You are held to a standard while the city "youths" can do whatever they want and will not be demonized. Go ahead, go after Nieves, but there are much bigger things going on here. We are beginning to eat each other.

People will rise to the level of their own incompetence. Exempts are so comfortable with being taken care of by other top brass and the Internal Affairs that they are doing dumb sh-t. Exempts are making the media headlines more and more and like always they’re waiting for things to blow over so that they can be cleared and often times promoted again?

Then he drags a Police Officer down with him? Who was probably his driver for the event? The cream always rises to the top……right? Stupid is is what stupid does?

SCC, you don't know all the facts of this case. Crimesha denied felony charges and the CCSA wants nothing to do with it (Kymmy was involved). That is why Nieves and the poor PO were only hit with a misdemeanor. The gym instructor is keeping his hands off as he has no clue what he's doing. Look for lawsuits to be filed against a certain corrupt BIA boss soon after restitution is paid and the case dumped. This is nothing more than palace intrigue and a power struggle.

So many people who don’t know the whole story but need to comment. There was a shooting, the crowd was hostile, the cars were dangerous. Deputy Chief made a call and slashed a tire. Big deal. We have tire deflation devices but they had none on scene, he called an audible. The deputy and officer are going to make bank suing for illegal arrest. This is why IAD is a joke, they don’t do investigations, they do frame jobs for their masters

This is nothing more than palace intrigue and a power struggle

This guy is right on the money. When the story gets out as to what the department and what a gold star in BIA, in particular did, everyone bashing him here will eat their words. There was no criminal intent in this incident, which is why the CCSAO denied any kind of felony charges, whatsoever. They were trying to stop a car (Razor) that was said to have been used in a shooting, and was driving around terrorizing everyone. When the truth is out everyone will be pretty surprised by our glorious CPD leadership, BIA especially.

Rob's only crime was giving a shit. Standby and watch the shitshow because it's a no-win situation no matter what you do.

Just an fyi, Gold star pension is 3 years in grade. Non exempt is 4 years. Your pension is based off the best 3 or 4 years , I can't remember which, in the last 10 years working. He can sit at callback til he turns 55 and get 75% of Deputy pay if he was Deputy for 3 years.

9/06/2024 11:41:00 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Then he will get the gold braid pension

9/06/2024 11:42:00 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

It won’t be a captains pension it will be the deputy’s pension less a few captains monthly pension. It the highest or last 48 so even if he stays a year as a captain 36 will be at exempt pay, last 12 at captains pays. Plus he might then be 55

9/06/2024 11:47:00 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

He is one of the better bosses on the department
He had a valid police purpose in slashing the tires as they were menacing the community then blocked up an alley and refused to move them. It would have been a riot when the tow trucks arrived to remove the tricycles

The real question is who was the boss that wanted it handled criminally rather then administratively

It was THREE different vehicles that had their tires slashed. For what? To secure the impound? If it was a savage playing bumper cars putting officers and the public at risk then go head and slash the tires to somewhat slow down or disable the vehicle. These unattended vehicles were at most a hazard blocking traffic.

Just another example of incompetent police brass. DEI at its finest. Same as the numerous cheater's who are Exempts ranging from those that were in the secret Williams study group to those given the scenarios from Supt Johnson himself, for a past Lieut Exam. Not much was said about this as a few were from IAD. Follow the paper trail, the possible next Chief of Counterterrorism scored in the high thousands on the Sgt Exam he took. Keating, another disaster, put him in for Merit, and of course Keating, being Daley's guy, got whatever he wanted. Now he takes the Lieut Exam, and the future Chief scored #1 on the Lieut Exam. BS! Popeye, Mills, and a few others, all who worked for Johnson, got the scenarios from Johnson yet he claims he made it legit! How do you look your family and friends in the eye and lie? Do you tell your kids its okay to cheat?

It’s sad the Dept, and inferior meritorious “Chiefs” and Deputies in IAD will go through these lengths to get rid of those they wanted to step down, because they know that they are inferior in knowledge and experience. Rob, your true friends know who you are, and the kind of cop/supervisor you are and have been. We have your back, and are here for you. You can’t articulate you did it because the vehicles “refused to move blocking the alley” and them take it upon yourself to render them unsafe to move.
