Contrarian Calls Out Cook County
Sure seems like Sheriff Dart is becoming increasingly irrelevant:
Instead of holding a hearing about why so many people are harmed or murdered under Sheriff Tom Dart and Chief Judge Timothy Evans’ GPS and electronic monitoring (EM) programs, Toni Preckwinkle and Cook County Commissioners held a meeting to vote to move the Sheriff’s EM program under the direct supervision of the Office of the Chief Judge and then had their affiliates issue a celebratory public statement. This action of moving control over the EM program from Dart's office to the Chief Judge will likely place up to 1,400 defendants, most of whom are charged with violent crimes or weapons charges, under a program that is not equipped to monitor them.
The recent harm caused by perpetrators on these GPS bands include the brutal murders of Officer Enrique Martinez and the horrific murder of a victim of domestic violence, Lacramioara Beldie, who this week was stabbed to death by her abuser who was wearing a GPS band. This tragedy also resulted in the injury of a heroic, off-duty police officer, who was struck by gunfire while attempting to Beldie's life.
Ms. Preckwinkle, Judge Evans and the Cook County Board are members of the same group of elected officials who still insist the SAFE-T Act is enormously successful. They dismissed a call to action issued by Clerk Iris Martinez to address the fact that defendants are being released and then refuse to appear in court in and astounding 74 percent of cases; they ignore that residents and businesses fear for their safety; and they refuse to act even after being told that murders in domestic cases went up 110 percent last year.
And once again, this is Paul Vallas, guest writing over at The Contrarian, making it more and more obvious that he may have really scared the $hit out of the Prickwrinkle Machine. It would have been amusing to say the very least if he had won the mayoral election....sometimes disruption is as good as reform.

I agree with everything that Paul Vallas points out, but I also remember that Vallas was the Finance Director when Daley, Burke, and all the other cronies were robbing the City blind and Vallas never said a word. Now, suddenly he has all the answers.

The SAF'T Act is very successful. The purpose of the Act was to release criminals and save taxpayers money. Of course, there is no regard for the welfare of the citizens so yes, this was the intent so it is successful.......to the losers that put this Act into law

While there’s no doubt the ODPO was instrumental in the grand scheme of things - wounding the asshole who later took his own life via vehicle exhaust - the whole “struck by gunfire” thing as written is completely misleading. I’ll leave it at that.

The only relevant services provided are in healthcare! But even there you have an army of patronage jobs.
Dart is the figurehead of jails and courts which have been gutted by Preckwinkle and her Sates Attorney efforts to gut law enforcement.
Evans is bagman of the judges!

All this does is affect FOIA. When you appear in bond court, they ll always say if they re on a bracelet or not. That will be public record.

The untold story is that almost all crimes would not have been committed if the criminals weren't instantly granted parole with a 50 percent sentence reduction for "good behavior", even before they've been incarcerated and before they've displayed any good behavior. And they don't have to serve their full sentences even when displaying bad behavior, even outside of prison.
Electronic monitoring further compounds this sentence reduction by counting each day on monitoring as a day in prison, so the sentence gets further reduced, even though the criminal is free to go anywhere and do anything. Pile on that various unexplained "credits" they receive in prison, often amounting to years in sentence reduction. Compounding it further are that prior parole and probation are rarely revoked. If that isn't enough, the judges apply a fantasy called "concurrent sentencing", where they pretend that the convict is serving a sentence for more than one crime at THE SAME TIME. Concurrent sentencing effectively dismisses the charges for the remainder of the crimes in a multiple crime spree. It was only intended to be applied for less serious crimes. But apparently judges think violent and repeat crime is not serious.
And, to top it all off, why are these crimes so needlessly violent? Maybe it has something to do with the system not enhancing sentences for violence against victims. In fact, most charges are dropped in a plea bargain, including those inconvenient battery charges, which often destroy crime victims lives. Hate crime enhancements are reserved for White criminals against a few informally designated groups. All of this just so the likes of Foxx, Evans, Preckwinkle, and Johnson can gloat that the criminals' "family life" isn't being disturbed.

The Criminal Saf-T act was created so that the clown prickwikle could brag about how the county passed a balanced budget, she made sure the county jail was empty, and the criminals are out running a muck. And sentences for the 9th robbery are no more stringent that for the first. Often, the sentences for the 9th robber are more lenient. And a large percentage of charges are just quietly and inexplicably dropped. It means death to Chicago - by a thousand judicial and prosecutorial cuts.
The "Democratic" party is anything but democratic. It's more of a plutocracy. It's run like a medieval feudal system, rewarding family and friends.
