RIP Officer Martinez
Final Honors granted to the fallen Officer:
The 26-year-old was shot and killed in the line of duty on Nov. 4, while conducting a traffic stop in East Chatham. A 23-year-old man is charged with first-degree murder in his death. He is a convicted felon who was out on electronic monitoring when police say he shot and killed the officer.
Details of the encounter got much attention in the days afterward, but Monday was the day to celebrate the officer, despite some back and forth about whether or not some dignitaries would be there.
As the service for Officer Martinez was to begin, so did the rain. Amid the clouds and rain, family and friends mourned the fallen officer.
A sad day indeed with the weather reflecting the mood.
RIP Officer Martinez.

This incident should have never happened if it were not for the Safe-T-Act. This de-escalation training can best described as asking the person not to shoot you, followed by the bad guy shooting you, followed by a foot chase. But you know the science says this won’t happen. My brother died at age 7 in a traffic accident. My mother, dad and I were never the same after that. NEVER. One can only hope and pray for the Officer's family. (A brother is an Officer too, per media reports.) Not one day goes by when you don't think of a lost one, taken too soon. Only hope time heals, but does it ever?

There’s nothing improper about having your pistol in your hand as you approach a traffic stop. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with putting that front sight on dudes face upon the first “stop reaching” or furtive movement.
I give a fuck about what todays “training” suggests or mandates. Ditto what the politicians, MSM and black community would like to see regarding police tactics about which they know absolutely dick.
MY training many, many moons ago taught me that traffic stops and domestic disturbances are the two biggest threats to an officers safety. While traffic stops are no longer in my regular daily itinerary, my partner and I still both approach a car with pistols out and then switch to the Business Officer/Security Officer mode after assessing the stop. There’s ALWAYS at least one gun unholstered until the stop has concluded.
Fuck the “optics” and perceptions. I’m taking every advantage necessary to ensure the good guys go home at the end of the day. And if some motorist feels uncomfortable that “the officer had his gun in his hand the whole stop”? Well fuck them, too. They can call for a supervisor or COPA direct and file a beef. No one will dictate how I protect myself.

He was supposed to testify in some lawsuit or corruption trial 10 or 15 years ago and was excused because of some health condition. Don’t know what health condition would prevent him from testifying but apparently he’s still alive and kicking, just not accountable.

I couldn’t agree with this comment any more so. It’s what they are teaching in the academy about deescalation, it’s not always an option. I was detailed to the academy a couple of years ago and disagreed with a lot of the new policies and procedures and hence was removed from the academy staff. It makes my heart ache that just maybe our training failed this young hero. I am totally suck ti my stomach about the last few young officers who died in the line of duty. Could it have been avoided due to our new policies? RIP Officer Martinez, I’m sorry we failed you!!
Officer Adrian Martinez Jr. eulogized his brother in unforgettable fashion--if you weren't at the funeral, check it out online. I'm retired now from our Department but still attend the funerals when they occur because these young Officers are really outstanding. They can't help the fact of subpar and politically oriented indoctrination which now passes for Academy training. They were particularly impressive at St. Rita, and I have their backs without question. So should we all.
