More Millions Gone

Remember during COVID how Chicago Public Schools bought crap-tacular chrome books for every student to "learn" remotely? Tens of millions on sub-par computers with network connections that were worse than anything in existence at the time. They even had tracking software installed at tremendous expense, but refused to activate it when thousands (tens of thousands?) of devices were reported "lost."

The computers have started turning up:

  • Thousands of electronic devices belonging to the Chicago Public Schools ended up overseas after being lost and stolen, according to a new report from the CPS Office of the Inspector General.

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when kids were learning from home, lost and stolen device numbers skyrocketed. But nearly five years later, lost and stolen electronic devices remain an issue that is costing CPS a lot of money when the school district is facing major budget issues.

Altogether, tens of thousands of laptops, iPads, and cellphone hot spots were lost or stolen during the 2023-2024 school year.

Thousands of those devices—bought and paid for with Chicagoans' tax dollars—have ended up in other countries.

A total of 8,346 devices were detected outside of Illinois. A majority of them ended up overseas in 140 countries—including Azerbaijan, Barbados, China, Ethiopia, Jordan and Nicaragua.

No idea how all of these computers ended up in foreign countries without passports. Of course, we could say the same thing a couple years later when tens of thousands of illegals ended up here without passports.

But that seems to be a theme with democrats - support everyone else except Americans with tax dollars. Conehead will just raise taxes again to cover it.

Idea: How about we send Chicago's illegal alien population to the location of each of these machines?

I’d honestly be interested in knowing if each Chromebook was actually registered to a student? And who actually reported them missing? Because being overseas smells of someone selling inventory off to someone or that inventory never actually even making it here but being charged on the tax payer dime. I just can’t see how’d they end up overseas via a student/parent selling it.

Was this a thief ring, either city wide or global? Did Chicago street gangs gain access to the CPS warehouse or each school's inventory?

The insane part of the $77,507 laptops and tech devices that were missing or lost is thousands of more have been lost after COVID ended and in 2023 and 2024. It wasn't until midway through the 2022-23 school year did CPS start making students and their families or guardians financially responsible for reimbursement. That's 2 years after COVID began in March 2020.

Then if the person responsible for the laptops or tech devices were low income (which 80% of students are), any fees were waived.

CPS has been FOIA'd for a school-by-school breakdown of the lost or missing laptops and tech devices and claims they don't have these stats. IL ATG is looking into it or so they say.

CPS can state how many were doled out to employees and returned or lost per school. And CPS can state how many were returned by students per school and the total doled out to all schools. But, CPS doesn't have the school-by-school data of the lost or missing ones. Why?

If so, how was the CPS OIG allowed to go through CPS inventory records and determine (while using their own "unique analysis") that 77,505 laptops or tech devices were MIA and 36 schools lost all of them? Yet, CPS claims they don't have a school-by-school breakdown of losses.

CPS claims they didn't utilize the $3M tracking system. Why or why not? Who's decision was this?

Who was made responsible for this fiasco and terminated from CPS? Seems nobody was as yet.

One excuse given is not all schools have tech coordinators to handle inventory control. Wait, what? There's nobody at each school thst can count and keep track of laptops and tech devices? This falls right in the lap of each school's principal for failing to keep proper and concise inventory records. I mean, how hard was this to do?

Some tidbits from the CPS OIG's 2024 Annual Report. One student was given 25 laptops and another brother and sister were given a total 10 laptops and not held financially responsible for any of them.

Read this anonymous CPS tech coordinator's tweet chain for a great insight into the procedure and inventory issues of the laptops and tech devices. One BIG clusterfuck.

No CPS accounting records of laptop distribution, so likely inside job, enabled by poor record-keeping and established pattern of CPS theft and waste. That said, wouldn't be surprised if laptops were mailed or delivered back to CPS parents' mother-country. Cheap laptop of little beneficial use, easy gift for relatives back home.

This is a few a years ago but right along the same lines. A south side high school was having its “computer lab” remodeled. As part of this project nearly one hundred new Dell computers were ordered. Not surprisingly the room wasn’t ready for the start of the year.

The computers were left in a storage room with only the Principal and the Chief Engineer having keys to the room. Well sure enough the second semester rolls around and the room is ready. They go to look for the computers and less than 20 boxes are in the room. The Principal has no idea what happened. The Engineer has no idea what happened. The dics respond and both people call their unions. Lawyers of course say don’t talk to the police.

CPS says what are you going to do, shit happens. Everybody shrugs their shoulders and moves on. $100G down the drain. Private industry. Everybody is fired. Then you shrug your shoulders.

Remember years ago we had a guy Phil Jackson, smart black guy appointed cps CEO? He found all the massive amounts of new equipment in buildings on 39th st,and new vehicles with dust on them all purchased with our tax money and thrown in massive warehouses! He was quickly fired after exposing the multi-millions thrown away, hmm how much went back into democratic elected pockets? There will never be a city audit unless President Trump gets his doj to look and open all the books full of malfeasance and theft, the elected would be sent to prison forever in this corruption filled city-state-county!

The case of the missing computers is easily traced back to an Arab owned grocery store down the block or over near the cousins house and again an Arab owned store in that area. Surely they didn’t get much in the trade but they didn’t need to because they didn’t pay for anything. Maybe a few dollars was made as well and various items such as a pack of pampers, a bag of salt and vinegar chips, a big pickle and a pack of Newports. This store didn’t carry liquor.

NEWS FLASH for ALL the District Desk Crews… DO NOT be suckered to completing reports for Police Hating CPS who circumvent the 911 Process by sending by a CPS Security Lackey to strong arm the desk into making a report OR sending in Parent and Families to make a report for Rape, Agg Battery and Assaults which their child was victim of and where it occurred on CPS Property AND where it should've been completed at the school and where the offender is also a student and possibly still on scene. If you haven't figured it out these Commie Socialist Teachers pick and choose when they call the police and would hate for police to actually respond to the school(s) where police were not wanted and removed as School Patrol. On top of it all EVERY YEAR CPS finds some dumb Desk Officer (sucka) to complete a report for Major Burglary which Police should've responded to the school and not given a report at desk for $500,000 K worth of IPads or computer equipment missing especially when school rep comes in station saying they've been “burglarized”. Do yourself a favor, Refuse Service send them back to school to properly notify 911 (for actual call for service) which they try so hard to avoid. Cause if officer shows up and realizes no alleged burglary occurred they are caught with their pants down attempting to file false report(s). Be smart, take caution and don't be a part of their criminal scheme to defraud city and insurance companies involved.

CPS doesn't have a school-by-school breakdown because the laptops never made it to a school, a tech coordinator, or a student. The laptops might not have even been shipped to Chicago. The big (and long) question remains...How can the CPS OIG do a "unique analysis ' of CPS inventory records and determine 77,505 laptops and tech devices were lost or missing, including 36 schools losing everything, then CPS can't give a school breakdown of what was lost or missing as they claim no responsive records in FOIA Requests?

The school officials that "impede" investigations, do not do that on their own. The "school official" (Principal) call their network chief, who calls Jadine Chou (Director of Security) who then calls Ruchi Verma (General Counsel) who decides how the school will interact with CPD.
