Another effort to hamstring police proposed in Springfield:
- (via the 016/017 Police Scanner X/Twitter feed - no working link available) - State senator Rachel Ventura (IL-43), who represents many parts of
Bollingbrook, Romeoville, Lockport, Joliet among others, has proposed a
bill that"Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Removes the requirement that cannabis within any area of a motor vehicle must be in an odor-proof container. Provides that if a motor vehicle is driven or occupied by an individual 21 years of age or over, a law enforcement officer may not stop or detain the motor vehicle or its driver nor inspect or search the motor vehicle, the contents of the motor vehicle, or the operator or passenger of the motor vehicle solely based on the odor of burnt or raw cannabis."This is akin to allowing people to drive with open alcohol.
Seeing as how you can't drive more than a block without smelling weed emanating from parked cars, cars on streets, cars on the highway, trucks and bicycles, it's not difficult to say that driving while high is a very big issue. We'd estimate that nearly 10% of drivers are high as kites and a friend over at MAIU claims that personal injury / fatal accidents involve weed over 60% of the time, surpassing even alcohol the past few years.
But hey, keep the police from enforcing the law.

I worked with a guy for one night who used to pull everyone out of a car for any reason, he comes to me when we worked together and we got the driver out and did everything nothing found other than some stupid amount small weed for possession, (No DWI/DUI). He asks me "What do you want to do?" I look at him and say "Cut him loose and lets go, I'm not going down for some small stuff when it's a busy night, if you want to go down for this while bigger stuff goes on be my guest, you'll be doing this at the end of shift." He looked at me amazed, he didn't get it because he didn't have the forefront to get it IL is a D state, they just decriminalized smoking/possession when we were working. They are putting case law out for burnt cannabis, they are putting up law for burnt, and now they are changing the childproof container. All with liberal NPR letting their listeners know their "rights" now you have the government actively seeking to decriminalize this shit to the point you shouldn't care. MARK MY WORDS this was 5 years ago, I predicted they'll let you smoke and drive, they just haven't said the "limit" yet. It's all about government TAXATION and NORMALIZATION of this welfare drug, don't be stupid to believe this state will turn back into a law abiding state. Stick to your calls, catch the big fish, and go home to your wife+kids, this state votes the way it is because of the machine and the idiots who vote for it.

I assume a corresponding bill is to be introduced that will decriminalize the possession of open liquor in a vehicle. Yes? After all, if the smell of burnt cannabis in an automobile may not be considered evidence of consumption, then certainly an open bottle of beer/liquor can't be either.

I understand that the tac car should have been driving with due car, but the car that turned in front of them was in the wrong. Failed to yield to the right of way, which in this case was the unmarked car. A friend of mine is in H.R. for a large local company. He was informed that he wasn't hiring diverse enough. He informed his bosses that none of the applicants can pass a drug test. Now he is on the liberal side of life but even he can't believe a person won't quit smoking weed for a job that pays 80K.

From what I’ve seen, I actually think driving high is surpassing drunk driving. People think nothing of getting in a car either high or smoking while driving. I watched a woman in my rear view mirror taking hits while it looked like she was driving to work.

Ever since they have legalized Mary Jane I have to wonder whenever I have a close call near accident whether at work or off duty, was the other driver stoned on pot? If I ever get hurt in an accident, I am going to sue them after I find out that they were because I am going to the hospital. If that driver doesn't have insurance, I'm going to sue my own insurance. Illinois law says that I can. Fuck you! Pay Me!
