CFD Lawsuit Inbound (UPDATE)
You'd think that after moving their HQ into CPD HQ a few years back, they might seek out some guidance regarding actual Law....but then, it would be CPD exempts they're asking and the number of morons among our upper echelon are legendary:
- Today CFD IAD and Command Staff member John Geis went to the firehouse at 3918 N Harlem Avenue (Engine 86). In addition to searching the firehouse and the personal lockers and bags of CFD members working today, all members were ordered to unlock their cars to be searched WITHOUT A WARRANT.I’m no 4th amendment expert, but I’m pretty certain that there is a lawsuit to be filed over this. They can search your bags, lockers and anything you bring into the firehouse, but I’m damn sure they cannot search your personal car without a warrant, even if it’s on city property.
Each and every CFD member better be suing the shit out of the City, the CFD and the exempt involved.
UPDATE: Someone in the comments says that they were targeting CCL holders? If so, now we have an even larger scandal if CFD is either (A) accessing the CCL database or (B) getting someone else to access the CCL database for an illegal investigation.
Now we don't only need to see lawsuits, we need people fired, jailed for Official Misconduct and stripped of their pensions because this is definitely "duty related" misconduct.

CFD IAD and inspections personal are basically fucking COWARDS.
Many of them are afraid of fighting fires so they volunteer or call their clout to get these jobs. Fuckin' pussies.
Take a look at who is in charge of the Fire IAD and you'll see why their personnel are given the orders to do this.
DEI / "merit" is a complete failure in this country.

Years ago, a local School District had some bullshit sign posted stating that "All Vehicles Entering This Property Are Subject To Search". I called up the Superintendent and asked him how he felt about being named in a Federal Civil Rights Lawsuit - personally and professionally. Explained what was going on...
Sign was gone that day. Schools might have some kind of easier search involving STUDENTS that are in the schoolhouse and under their control, but they can go fuck themselves for anyone else.

A higher-ranking friend on Fire Side relates that they came in and targeted CFD employees on scene who are CCL holders to see if they had firearms in their personal vehicles. He was told they checked glove boxes, trunks, center consoles, etc. If even remotely accurate, a few points to consider:
1. Did somebod(ies) access (restricted) databases to ascertain which employees were CCL holders?
2. Did somebod(ies) employ CPD or any other LE agency with access to LEADS to run plates to discover and target those with CCL’s?
3. Unless there exists conditions of employment that CFD employees signed-off on, why in fucking Hell would any hosedragger allow their personal vehicles to be searched without a warrant?
I’d hope someone in their union is seeking seeking preservation orders on all communication devices of those CFD Bossholes on scene directing this nonsense. Same for any databases possibly used to identify CCL holders. Same for any internal databases that may have been used.
Those targeted need to bury every cocksucker who’s fingerprints are on this debacle.

IAD and Command staff at CFD just think there is no protection and give direct orders to open personal vehicles? Look it up years ago they did this? And did the city pay through the nose for it?

I agree. I believe case law I read (years ago) said they can open your locker, but can not open bags or containers without a warrant. Same for personal vehicles. They could probably also sue for having their photos taken while holding ID cards/ DLs for the DNC (ar the request of USSS). CFD exempts didn't question a request from federal law enforcement about creating a photo database? I bet if it was ICE instead of USSS they'd lose their minds.

Every exempt CFD is a merit/political promotion. They can revert back to their career service rank at anytime, in the case of John Geis a battalion chief with a $100k a year pension if they don't want to follow orders like this. Shame on you John Geis, you were always a shameless suckhole.
NO, they need a search warrant. Your car is not their property. However, your locker inside a fire facility is their property. if they can search that is a question for a lawyer.
I hope a few of them went ghetto and broke out dey sail foams and recorded those assholes illegally searching cars. I woulda refused and recorded the prick giving me a direct order to comply. And then it woulda been shared with the media and my attorney.
Right now there's an effort by CFFU Local 2 to get exempt members like his into the bargaining unit. John Geis just just that harder for all of them.

Yes, this is correct. A Fire Paramedic that was assigned to Ambulance 18 at 80th Kedzie had his vehicle searched in the lot and alcohol was found during a raid in the early 90's. He was suspended, grieved it and the arbitrator sustained the grievance and he was awarded all back pay and discipline expunged from his personnel file. He crossed over and was an LODD at 106th Western fire. L2 contract office better get on it. Pat King RIP.

IAD is back at 3918 N Harlem making threats and demanding firefighters open their cars to be searched based on CCL issues. This is happening as this is being typed or shortly before.

The VRI lawsuit money has nothing to do with FOP. It was brought by a couple individuals, I'm not sure who. From what I heard it's gonna take a couple more years.
Not unless there's some CFD rule stating that they must allow their vehicles to be searched if on the property. Even then, they could refuse and just face whatever consequence there may be for their employment.
They could just park adjacent to the lot like all the idiots in 025 with front tints, no city stickers and no front plates.

As far as I know, having a firearm in your car in a workplace parking lot is legal if a: you are a CCL holder, or b: it is stored in a safe manor. That is unless you work at a nuclear power plant. then you need to leave it at home.

They can prohibit fire arms with in their buildings but state laws allow firearms to be locked in a storage compartment inside a locked vehicle when carrying a firearm is prohibited. CCL can not carry inside a school but can keep them locked inside their vehicle parked in the parking lot
