No Response
Mere weeks after we wrote about the Sacramento County sheriff ordering his Officers not to respond to non-criminal mental health calls, a small-town Illinois Department is doing the same thing:
The Salem Police Department is no longer dispatching officers to non-violent mental calls.
Deputy Police Chief Tyler Rose says the department is participating in a pilot program ahead of a new law that prohibits initial response to mental calls that takes effect in July.
“If it is non-violent, there are no weapons, there no threat to another individual, it’s someone simply having a mental health crisis, the legislation forbids us from dispatching officers right away,” Rose said. “That will have to be referred to these mobile crisis units. For Salem, it’s going to be members of the Community Resource Center that come out and make contact with that that individual.”
Rose says if the Community Resource Center is not able to respond within 60 minutes the call will revert to Salem Police to handle.
This is going to be State Law starting in July? Outstanding.
They ought to be cutting TV and radio commercials and airing them every hour telling people that the cops aren't coming and they better have some contingency plan in place....like a taxi and a large neighbor on call with a straitjacket.

Here is the big question:
WHO and HOW will EMC decide what is a "non-violent" call?
Someone will be held responsible when that "non-violent" honor student turns ape-shit nuts in about 6 seconds flat. Then, kills a room of unarmed individuals.
Get the popcorn out.
I'm going to enjoy watching the evening news again.
You already know what's gonna happen.
How is non-violent, non-threatening going to be determined? Who gets blamed if SHTF?
Every call will be he/she/it/them etc etc are off their meds, fighting with family members, taking kitchen knives, and threatening to kill everyone and kill the police also. And of course a squad will be dispatched to the address/street location of the mental meltdown.
Last paragraph says it all. Cannot wait until all these basement dwelling keyboard warriors in the name of social justice and New-Day-Quarterbacking are disrupted in their own renting lives to settle a score. Wanna bet the volley gets tossed back at the police for evasion in not protecting its community. Kick-the-can, hence no responsibility, no compassion, no empathy, just more politicking. Ugh.
They started sending social workers, who worked for the City, in the late 1970s to handle these types of calls to relieve the police of handling them. The workers would then call for the police because they felt they were in danger. Then when the police would arrive and take command of the situation they would try and tell the police what to do. The program was a failure and was disbanded.
Nuts.
Like that’s going to happen here, yeah right!
One question im sure they will ask. Is he being violent. Im sure alot will say yes. I see the police handling most of the calls
I have said it for years... mental HEALTH! wtf are we getting roped into that shit.
Get that lobbyist NAMI off our policies and politics.
The Sangamon County OIS that set off this current wave is constantly described as a call to a mental health crisis. It was not. It was a report of a prowler.
There's never been evidence that there was no prowler. The deputies didn't find one by the time they arrived, but that's the usual result of those calls.
There was no mental health crisis until the woman decided to pour two gallons of boiling liquid on the deputies.
We're also repeatedly told that the deputy did not turn on his body camera. He did. Video from both deputies has been made public.
so,,,, now everyone calling will just do like the west side and south side,,, they will all say, "and he has a gun" !!!
Families will certainly learn to claim that person in a mental health crisis is making threats even if he is not in order to get a faster response. That happens now.
Please don’t film the mentals. They hate it and will cause an increased mental breakdown. 1 hour in the throws of a mental breakdown on the CTA will result in a 70% increase in private citizens eventually having to do the Lords work on their own.
Cops get a well deserved break from dealing with nonsense.
What's the idea, make it so bad they beg you to come back?
It won’t take long for them to figure out, “they have a (knife, gun, machete, pry bar)” or another other excuse to make a dispatcher send the police into the cauldron.
There are no weapons....until there are. I foresee a bunch of dead unarmed mental health responders, and people falsely reporting that the crazy uncle has a knife or gun when he actually doesn't just so cops show up.
I dispatch for 4 towns in the western suburbs and we are doing the same think. CESSA was signed into law a few years ago but it wasn’t implemented until February 19th at our center. We are also part of the pilot program. It puts the dispatchers in the position to make a determination about mental health when we aren’t licensed as such. Also , the officers are unaware we are even doing this so for officer safer they won’t know that the subjects called 911 in the past. The calls that meet the CESSA criteria are being transferred to 988. We are not happy with this as there was no real life observations to see how this plays out.
What exactly is a “Mobile crisis unit”?
The bottom line is always ‘we’ll send the police’. The very essence of what we are talking about makes it dangerous.
Yep
100% correct.
You realize this is a good thing, right?
It’s wild you can watch the video and then be so wrong.
Hidden in every law (action) are unintended reactions/consequences.
With this law as evidence of a mental breakdown, let's dispatch all the IL mental health response teams to the state capitol and kindly direct the mental midgets, that voted for this law, to be escorted to St. John's psychiatric department for evaluation. (Don't forget to red-flag them, too.)
Never gonna happen here. The Poleece need to be called for every disfunctional situation. Right after call my Mama.
ain't that the truth
They're not trying to save anyone, they're cashing in the ghetto lottery ticket
Well that's the point isn't it. Dems have to see their policies hit rock bottom or else the just keep doubling down. Whether it is something like this or the first time the pension checks can't be covered.
Get off the booze and dope 90 percent of the time it’s the problem Cokin smokin and jokin
Buck Buckshot Says:
More deliberate Stupid ideas by the Commiecrats. Every one of these assinine programs they can get instituted is another back door into money laundering and skimming from the proceeds to the programs They don’t care at all if it’s successful or not, as long as it opens up a doorway to kickbacks. . When are the Simpleton Feds gonna wke up?

Uhhhhh, what video did you watch? The deputy told her to go to the stove and shut it off “so there wouldn’t be a fire.” Then she said something about rubuking him in Jesus name. Deputy went from 0-1000, threatened her, drew down and shot her in the face all in seconds. When did she ever pour said liquids on them?? Probably shouldn’t comment if you have no idea wtf you are even talking about.
Nobody knows. They made one video for the local media and nobody’s seen the van since.
Police are under no duty to respond to any call. Got a problem with Crazy Joey? Deal with it. Duct tape his dumb ass to the telephone pole, call the Mental Wagon, let them come pick him up.
Can anyone find me the new law that is supposedly passing? I cannot seem to find it anywhere.
In the video: she did throw the water at the deputies, and it landed at their feet. But for the shot, would have hit them.
"I rebuke you in the name of Jesus" is a threat. Both deputies drew.
Why else was she boiling water in the middle of the night? Pour two gallons on your head and report back to us on the result.
It’s called CESSA. Just google it
It’s not that easy. As dispatchers we have to offer the mental health services first for non violent mental health issues. It’s ridiculous because more times than not the person eventually turns to violence usually because they get mad the family member called the police initially.
If they were so concerned over the water, probably shouldn’t have told her to go to the stove where the water was and shut it off. The water also hit the floor because she was shot in the face. It’s absolutely wild that you agree with this retarded deputy. There is a reason why he was fired and charged all within 24hrs basically. But hey. Gotta watch out for the barely mobile woman who is going to lob a boiling pot across the room suddenly…
It was repoed soon after that media event for nonpayment
ACDC is a joke of a dispatch center
yeah, callers will lie and say there is a threat to their safety ie: a weapon or they're tearing up the house as they often do
