"He's Got My Weapon"
A man disarmed a security officer and then fired the weapon inside Fosco Park on Saturday morning and later confronted a Chicago police SWAT team while holding the firearm to his own head, according to a law enforcement source. Ultimately, the 23-year-old Uptown resident was taken into custody, and no injuries were reported.
It all started around 9 a.m. when a retired Chicago police sergeant working as park security asked the man, who is homeless, to leave the park at 1312 South Racine. The guard, 57, tried to escort the man from the premises, but the situation turned physical, and the 23-year-old struck the guard in the face, according to a CPD media statement.
Police said the man gained control of the guard’s firearm and the security officer ran out of the building to call 911. Meanwhile, the man began firing the guard’s weapon, sending park patrons running for cover. No injuries were reported.
There's audio from the scanner channels.
No one got seriously injured, and we suppose that's what the electorate wants. But we remember a time....but that's all in the past.

57 years old and decides to go “hands on” with a 23 year old??? Over a side job?? Gets his ass kicked and then disarmed. Lucky he didn’t get murdered or got someone else murdered. Do us all a favor gramps, stay at home and collect those pension checks and keep your guns locked up for your own good.
As my friend Harry used to say “A man’s got to know his limitations”.
Make the POS late for his next birthday party and society will never have to look for its shoulder when the POS is in the vicinity. Any chances that the POS will never doing serious time and is more likely to wear an ankle monitor at a halfway house?
The retired sergeant is an $85,000 "regional manager" for the Park District security. Still not worth it.
These are violent SAVAGES. Take your family and leave the Shit-hole State
Used to be Bt 1232
This happened all the time
Noone cared
Never had security
What changed????
Maybe ask the Feds.....
make wood shampoos great again!
Once you retire from CPD, do not work security jobs.
If one’s gets disarmed as a security job their credentials to work security should be suspended for 1 year while one is retrained and thinks about ones tactical inabilities.
i still get the UIC crime alerts ... the text was extremely vague about this - "CPD activity" or something like that - they should have elaborated because my kid goes to UIC and practices at one of those parks out that way - SHITTY JOB UIC SECURITY - SHITTY JOB
You’re retired. Be retired.
There was a time when examples were made , but people like Sparkle starts and his crew handcuffed the police.
That had to be really embarrassing for the retired sergeant.
Dude just trying to get some shuteye after a long night of drinking and using leaves me alone I ain’t did nuffin
didn't this homeless guy know conehead would put him up in a luxury hotel room paid for by the taxpayers? no need for a lowly field house
Time to hang it up Dave and please take the other Dave with you!
lmfao
What would have been worse for the security guard, he gets shot and wounded by the perp or the perp gets shot and wounded by the guard?
OT:
Anyone heard of this law that takes affect 07 01 2025?

"When trying to keep it real gets UNREAL"... Old boy should be at home grillin' and chillen'...and maybe a stop at his local church to say a couple of hail Mary's to thank god that he's still breathing. Has anyone seen the video of the lockup keeper getting sucker punched in the 18 district lockup? Wow.
You talk like 57 means you’re old and decrepit. Sounds more like his street smarts were lacking.
This reminds me of an episode of The Andy Griffith Show where Asa Breeny, the old bank guard at the Mayberry Security Bank who was always asleep on the job, had his gun taken away by bank robbers.

In all seriousness, thank goodness the retired Sergeant is still with us.
And this is why I never worked security jobs after I retired.
He probably has 2 million in deferred comp.Have to be a boss somewhere if it’s not at home.Enjoy ur retirement, money isn’t everything.
Hang it up already. No more security work. Sold off all work related gear from this job and walked away.
Sounds like a clown. Give it up.
Some have no real work skills. Never had an actual job, besides the police.
Yep, find a new hobby.
quit trying to be the police when your retired
Somebody ounce said on this blog " we are own worse enemy" it was sad reading some of these comments about the ret sgt. It can happen to anyone, ie P.O. Soderburg CMMD Bauer and another p.o. fighting a female mental at a cta bus stop. His name escape me.
The Park District likes to hire police officers, active or retired, and wants them to work armed. However, they do not issue what used to be called a Tan Card, now a Firearm Control Card. If you are retired and working security while armed without the FCC, you are a fool as you are not indemnified in case you shoot someone. This retired sergeant could face a serious civil law suit.
Probably the first time the "revolvers" been shot in years.
Theres a certain 71 year old retired Captain doing security for Park District, although would have shot the perp.
Uptown resident in Fosco park? Any guesses as which address he uses?
There is a law enforcement waiver for retirees.
Fuck all you Monday morning quarterbacks and haters! The man is still alive and collecting a pension check! Keyboard tough guys.
The other Dave would of lit him up and 19-P the job.
Rick Francis-019 RIP
As an Older retiree, I know my limitations that come with age , Officer , it is time to give it up. too many crazies out there and we both know they can have the strength of 10 men. Glad you're alive.
I agree with your post 100 percent. You guys and girls have enough enemies but continue to bash each other on this blog. I never thought this department would become such a bunch of malcontents. This is not the CPD that I was a proud member of. 77-3
Exactly, it can happen to anyone but because he’s retired we should cut him some slack huh?? Neh, keep the comments coming. These old timers love to come on here and share their expertise, let’s see what should he had done… RETIRE
Not a perp idiot. It’s OFFENDER
No! Fuck you! You got disarmed!
Nobody is going to address the terrible response to this incident? Units and a Sgt responding to the scene hear shots being fired from inside a park district building and the Sgt directs everyone to take cover because of all the windows and requests SWAT??? This is an active shooter! You have to secure a perimeter, assemble an entry team, and eliminate the active threat! You can't just take the word of a person who was just beaten & unarmed that the building is clear! Ask the officers in Parkland, Fl how their situation worked out for them!
What's a perp?
What did you expect from CPD? Being a former Marine, my biggest fear was an active shooter in 005. I would be the only one inside.
I knew a Ranger who graduated first in his class. He was killed by a 3rd world goat herder his first day in combat. My point is STFU.
012 is home of some of the scariest cops in the city. No surprise here
This is why you carry a backup gun.
