Interesting Proposal
Cook County’s new state’s attorney is proposing a new law that would help people charged with illegally possessing firearms get a license so they can own the weapons legally. Eileen Burke’s office revealed the idea on Friday.
First-time gun offenders charged with a low-level firearms violation could “get into compliance with the law” if they complete a diversion program under the proposal, according to the announcement. Anyone accused of possessing machine guns, an increasingly common situation in Chicago, would not be eligible.
So instead of forever forfeiting the Right to legally own a gun upon conviction, the CCSA would have an education class and walk people through the process to obtain an FOID card? Will they be returning the seized firearm that resulted in charges or are they making people (and folks) buy another one through lawful channels to collect tax revenue and another off-the-books registry?
And does this have anything to do with the second or third recent loss regarding the FOID card

Foid and CCl are unconstitutional. If the person has no IR they shouldn’t have to ask the state for permission to carry a firearm when they already have that right. It should be a misdemeanor if anything. I don’t know why people like to sandbag these people who have no IR with a felony UUW for excersising their constitutional right.
Whole thing is more zero consequences bullshit.
I don't agree with the FOID, but it is what it is in Hellinois and I went through the process and got one.
It's relatively inexpensive, probably less than a pack of cigarettes these days, do the whole thing online, upload a picture.
Thousands upon thousands of residents have done it, so can Pookie.
That Pookie felt he didn havta do shit! Shouldn't give him a pass to anything but prison for 10 years.
Start locking these J/O's up - bring back Project Exile.
But you know, Democrats. Never saw a criminal they wouldn't give a 92nd chance to on the odd possibility that they'll gain a vote.

What's This? A Good Gun Bill in Illinois?
Feb 10, 2025
Usually, when talking on anything in Illinois we have nothingbutbad news. This is not the case here.. Washington Gun Law President, William Kirk, discusses HB 2587, a piece of legislation that would exempt CCL holders from the state's 72 hour waiting period. It's a good piece of legislation, but what are the chances that it actually becomes law? Well, this is the State of Illinois so we better not hold our breath. But learn more today and arm yourself with education.

If this was actually done on a case by case basis, where all factors are considered before sending a case to this diversion program, it could be a reasonable change. We all know that it will be used and abused to get violent criminals diverted instead of some poor schmuck who just happened to get caught with a gun that he never intended to use to commit any violence. It's still Cook County in beautiful Illinois after all.
When the assholes get their FOID and CCL they’ll start shooting Peoples or Folks. Those additional shootings will just make the legit FOID/CCL look bad as a group thereby confirming what demoRats have always said that the streets will run red with blood and that it’ll be like the wild wild West. Never let a good crisis go to waste. Then the calls will go out for stricter gun control laws. There’s always an ulterior motive when demoRats do something that appears to benefit us.
The Democrat’s never want to enforce gun laws. The rather take away the good guy and girls guns.
