Seriously?

Oh no, no more flippers:

  • A bill outlawing license plate flippers has passed the Illinois Senate.

Senate Bill 1883 to explicitly ban license plate flippers is sponsored by State Sen. Steve Stadelman (D-Rockford). The flippers enable motorists to avoid tolls and identification by police when potentially violating the law with just the push of a button.

“Many drivers are using plate flippers to avoid tolls and police, evading the consequences of their actions on our roadways,” Stadelman said. “Banning flipper devices is a crucial step toward keeping our roads safe and holding drivers accountable.”

Since Chicago doesn't want cops doing traffic stops, we just have our plates attached via a magnet. If we're driving in the city, we don't put them on and don't even think about speed cameras or stop lights any more - much less stressful and we know the cops can't chase.

If we're on the highway, we have the upper half of a paper Indiana registration. ISP is even more undermanned than CPD so we like our chances.

Are these things that prevalent that Springfield has to pass a law against them? It's going to go over as well as the "gun registration" that achieved all of 3% compliance across the state.

All it takes is a couple of speed trap or red light camera violations ($100) to exceed the cost of a no license plate displayed violation of $164

This law is more about revenue than anything else.

Humorous that it was passed on National Dolphin Day.

The city of the damed. Driving will be equivalent to a Mad-Max movie. I see stuff now that I would have never seen 20 years ago. The Democrat politicians really make a mess of the place.

Many drivers are using plate flippers? I don't even think many drivers even know what a plate flipper is or where to get one. Criminals don't use their own cars, don't pay fines, and don't use plates if they're really up to no good. This is meant to punish less than 1% of drivers, who would likely be using a plate flipper just to avoid tolls and fines, not actual criminals concealing their vehicle information while committing actual crimes. A plate flipper is already illegal, since driving with no plate or the wrong plate is already illegal. This is another case of "we need more laws" to prevent crime, when the laws already in place are sufficient.

Bangers put them on the cars of their girlfriends and mammas. They tell both that they are forced to install the flippers by the cartel or they will be killed.
EVERYONE is on bullshit.

when they first concocted the red light cameras, people thought back by putting Fresnel lenses over their license plate.

so rather than getting rid of the red light cameras the state decided to try to protect its revenue stream bypassing some bullshit law...

then someone came up with a James Bond style plate flipper, thereby imperiling the state's ill gotten booty and here we are...

it's a de facto arms race and it's only going to get worse. the only solution is to move out of Illinois because we all know that voting out Democrats doesn't work.

So cops hardly pull people over so how are they going to catch anyone using a flipper? Hell I didn't even know they existed until now and I am ordering mine today.

It appears the greatest crime fighting tool you have is the police entrance exam interview. Maybe you should setup a sting operation, offer government jobs for honest answers to questions on the app....

Yes. That is what I chose. You just have to know where the traps are when you come back to visit. I chuckle that I still need that stupid I-Pass for 2-3 road trips up there per year. Don’t have to enter Shitcago anymore, but need the I-pass for 294 to get to family.

“The bill, which passed in the Senate Thursday, says the smell of raw or burnt cannabis isn’t a valid enough reason for law enforcement to search a vehicle or detain drivers older than 21 years old…State Senator Steve Stadelman is one of 33 lawmakers who voted in favor of this bill.”

Headed for selective/rare enforcement, if it passes. See laws on window tint; windshields seem to be a growth market for tint lately.

There are more plates on vehicles that are purposely defaced, they are scraped so you can’t read the letters or numbers , I even seen this with Wisconsin plates as well crossing the state line probably on illegal BS !
