An interesting statement by convicted felon and current alderasshole Burnett the other day:
Ald. Walter Burnett, 27th, flagged the setting of the stop. Plainclothes officers stopped Reed in what Burnett described as a high-crime neighborhood.
“I couldn’t imagine what was going on in the young man’s head. He should not have had a gun, he should not have did what he did,” Burnett said. “But if someone would have walked up on my car in that neighborhood, I don’t know how I would react.”
Taking Wally's bullshit to the illogical extreme, any time a black/white/brown person approaches our car, we're justified in blasting away?
Wally, being a convicted felon....kind of like Dexter....is known to have a certain disregard for the law, so it's not too far of a leap to suppose he carries a gun when traveling. And knowing that, a smart politically aware officer on a traffic stop might already have his gun out and ready when approaching the alderasshole.
We must confess, we wouldn't know how we would react either.

If I lived in a violent neighborhood I would welcome being stopped by the police because I follow the rules and have nothing to hide. It means that the police are working in the area looking for people who don't follow the rules.

Nobody “walked up on him”; he was pulled over by a group of plainclothes but obvious police officers in an unmarked Ford Explorer covered in blue lights. Given that he pulled over (yielded to their lawful authority) I have seen no evidence that he didn’t know they were police.

2) The black alderman’s argument is that Dexter did NOT know the tact team WERE the police.
Make no mistake, the alderman’s response is inappropriate AND dangerous.
His statement acts as VALIDATION for Dexters actions.
The alderman KNOWS that Dexter got what the circumstance called for, but why waste a great opportunity to race bait, right?

Even though several officers surrounded the car were telling him they were police then he rolled up the window and shot the officer in the hand on the passenger side. The video kind of shoots that excuse in the foot so to speak.
We can thank Gov. Jim Edgar who removed that legal obstacle of a felony that had stood in the way of Chicago Ald. Walter Burnett’s candidacy for election granting executive clemency for a felony conviction.

There's a video of him rolling down his drivers window talking to officers who were telling to get out of the car. He then rolled up his window while officers were telling him to stop rolling up his window which he didn't stop then he shot through his passenger window wounding an officer standing on the passenger side of his car.
