Hey Bud. I hear alot of rumors. They are mostly about me and true.
How do they expect us to work if they don’t want to pay us. Police work isn’t 9am to 5pm, Monday - Friday. Just stupid.
They did this in 189 when before Kimble fell from his reign there. Took hours to get approval, especially while you’re in the middle of a sw ( when we used to do them ) ….. it didn’t last long bc thankfully he was dumped. But he made sure to get his OT after bragging he never had to “fill out a yellow” slip again bc he made commander. How wrong he was. One of the biggest POS on this job.
“Do more with less”, except there’s less people to do the same amount of work.
Spread too thin, and OT is a necessity. Dics are very shorthanded.
The city still doesn’t mind.
OT is expensive- but not as expensive as a new hire and paying for health benefits. Cheaper to hire back and pay OT.
Will the Commander stop the 48-hour rule to save OT?
Will the Commander approve "Released without charges" to save OT?
WILL the Commander tell her sergeants and lieutenants to stop assiging in-custody investigations and field assignments 5 hours before a detective's tour ends?
There goes the clearance rate
How about we send a letter to all residents to help in this effort by only committing crimes in the first 3 hours of each watch?

Position cuts will come from 9161- probably another 500 vacancies
9164 is getting trimmed too- no need for 449 FTO’s when only 50 recruits are hired every month. will be cut via attrition to 350 and remaining FTO’s will just get more ppos to stress them out. supervisors are safe thanks to the consent decree
canine will be shrunk as well. the city has wanted to do away with it for a while but hasn’t because of federal $$.
CFD also in the hotseat, they want 3-5% of firehouses closed. nance-holt and BJ do not see eye to eye, so a new commissioner will be brought in this summer to oversee the trimming of the Daley days OT and paramedic OT and to find new “efficiencies”.
other departments will be told to cut ot, delay some services like tree trimming, pothole remediation, minor ward projects, cuts to hours of operation at clerks office, libraries etc.
taxes fines and fees all go up. 600k house in Beverly, you’re looking at a 3k increase over 2-3 years
if city council grows a pair and insists on cuts, non critical layoffs will follow.
If the Commander had ever been a detective, she would know that a detective's best work is done on overtime.
How does a boss stop someone from making an arrest at the end of their tour? They can't.
The previous SCC post was about rising property taxes. How do they expect us to afford that since we have to live in the City? OT now get ready to pay.
To the Commander, if you give me a late assignment on any day, especially on my Friday, there will be overtime incurred and for safety reasons my partner will need OT also. Inform your sergeants.
Also, if you show favoritism to "certain" detectives by letting them leave early and screw me out of time with my family, there will be overtime to pay.
She just told a detective the other day to put hold papers on an in custody because they got arrested only 5 hours ago and come back tomorrow .. wonder what would happen if that victim is unable to come in next day or if not enough time to get charged and then asshole gets out and something happens to victim ie gets killed whose fault is that bc won’t pay overtime

Solve no crime, till it’s overtime
Many in the past month or two have been told to cut OT. If they start making districts and units abide by the “budgeted” amount then OT will be non existent. For example, most districts spend 300-500k per month on OT. A district like 010 spends about 350k. Their budgeted amount is 110k. Smaller units have budgets of only 50-60k that spend 200k a month. There’s going to be a lot of crying going on from the people who bought 100k lifted jeeps and have no idea how to manage their money…

Most Gold Stars never did any overtime or haven’t done any in close to 20 years. They just don’t get it.

CTA/CHA was hard to get.
No more coming in early - staying late for some “get me 5 tickets” traffic mission when most don’t do a damn thing in their 9 hour shift.
Most here don’t do anything during their tour, then do even less on OT.

why don't we talk about the Officers, Sergeants making over 300k a year...I find that physically draining not impossible but is it really all legit or just padding the hours.
OT is unlimited at IRT. My new boy commander is AOK with me. The areas suck. IRT is the elite
Only Box 1 gets to stay on a felony? Who watches the offender when I need to utilize the restroom?
Partner and I make the arrest so we both are staying.
Pass arrest to next shift? Nope. My arrest I get the OT. I start hunting 2 hours before my shift ends just for the OT. Would not do anything otherwise.
This isn’t a “rumor”. This is going to be citywide, and it’s not going to be like years past where it’s just an avalanche come summer. I’m sure OT will “increase” but it will never be what it was or currently is under this mayor. The mayor is adamant, no matter what, OT is to be controlled. Already the OT for this year is blown, it’s at about 50 million, the budget is 100 million and it’s only April. Nobody believes me, but summer is going to be almost dry with OT other than the absolute necessary and normal cancellations for holidays. The days of making anything over 50 hours in a period excluding court is done. And I’d venture to say, 50 is an extreme case with how serious the mayor is. This is another way to “defund” without actually defunding.
Have her make the notification.

Felony Review Mandatory Notifications:
within six (6) hours of arrest, when an arrested person is to be charged with a felony, except for narcotics.
We were told Friday no more OT for us also in our district. If you get a late arrest 2 officers can stay and help until OT kicks in then the box 1 officer will stay to process the arrest. Another on duty officer on the following watch will assist with bringing the prisoner back to lock up when the time comes. Under no circumstances, unless there is a TRR or IOD can a sgt stay OT with the processing officers. This applies to all sgts and was specifically directed at the tac teams. Desk sgt on the following watch is to approve all case and inventories. As the commander put it, no more staying to “supervise and moral support, the next watch will continue the supervision.” If it’s not a cluster, they aren’t staying. That will eventually go for all districts and units I’m told by our captain.

Put firefighters on 12 hour shifts. Eliminate Captain ranks, Fire Inspector rank . Have 3 CFD on duty at all times, hire part time firefighters from suburban departments to fill in a couple days a week. Pay them hour, no pension or other benefits. It’s a win, win.
24 on 48 off is a waste of money, very dangerous for firefighters being woke from a sound sleep to climb roofs put out fires.
Put Captain’s back on every watch. Eleminate caps , every police officer is trained in caps. Make review, timekeepers, secretary to commanders a civilian position. Clean out public safety building of sworn officers doing civilian duties.

It’s also violative of an arrestee’s rights to stop investigating and go home.

If there's a TRR, physical resisting then it's an auto-IOD also. Offender claims injury, officer should too. Zero exceptions.

I live in a ward with a socialist alderwoman and she sent out an email a few years ago with the idea proposed by Native Sons that shooting only occur between 9pm to 9am. I’m not really sure where that email went to- do the GD, SD have a corporate HQ? That’s what we’re dealing with in this city now- morons.

I remember the crunch about 25 years ago. Commanders had to approve all OT. The DD was a lot of fun back then.

I absolutely hate this woman and her staff, they are so toxic!!! This commander sent out a email a week before this email thanking everyone for all of their hard work because of our hard work area 2 had the highest clearance rate of all areas. Typical woman—bipolar!!!!
Heres a tip, look at the OT at the academy. They play sneaky games with start times.
How the fuck can you be an FTO with 30+ years on... that doesn't train PPO's... hiding in the academy for years... and doing 15-16+ hours, multiple days in a row... FU CJ
