Mendoza Running for Mayor?
In the 2026/2027 game of chess, another piece has moved.
Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza is signaling she might be eyeing a different office. Mendoza, first elected in 2016, may skip the all-important Cook County Democratic Party slating meeting later this week.
“That, to me, is kind of like a trigger point. I know her folks are saying, ‘Well, it’s kind of a pro forma thing and they could still slate her if she didn’t show up,’ But I think not showing up is an indication of how, as her people have pledged, she’s only going to run for one office, she’s not going to run for two offices,” said Chicago Tribune political reporter Rick Pearson.
She's been ripping Conehead pretty regularly, she has a brother (?) on CPD and she's been making the right support noises for a few years now, and the Hispanic Machine is eager to flex their political muscles after taking a backseat for years now and Mendoza is the logical candidate to unite behind.
We voted for her back in 2016 when Chicago ended up with Groot vs Prickwrinkle and that disaster has been echoing for years now.

First off, in my experience, a massive majority of coppers are conservative. Secondly, it’s not a matter of just voting Republican in a chicago mayoral race. There are none to vote for. And if there is, they have 0 chance of winning in a city like chicago (Bob Fioretti for example). It’s not that officers need to “wake up”, there’s only about 10,000 of us city wide, we are an insignificant voting block. Not like 80% of officers are out there campaigning for Johnson and enthusiastically voting lightfoot. Just trying to pick the lesser of 2 evils, or what’s perceived to be. There is no Giuliani in 1994 for us to vote for. If all of us “woke up” and voted for who you wanted us to vote for, it would make precisely 0 difference. To think some huge percentage of coppers are progressive leftists that need to “wake up” (although I’ve met a handful) shows me you don’t know any coppers to begin with. It’s not the police in this city that are the problem in terms of voting, you need to be out there telling the rest of the citizenry to “wake up”, we are on board, we’d by in large love a Republican, there’s just none to vote for.
An “R” next to their name will instantly cut them off from about 90% of the citizens in chicago. It’s over for this city. It’s nowhere near bad enough for the dumbest voting base in the country to consider voting Republican. New York had to have several years of 2000+ homicides before voting Republican. Worked with her brother. He’s a nice guy. Not necessarily the brightest but was always helpful and he was sick before Covid. I have no idea if he was merit- never bothered to look. Regardless, like I said, I never had an interaction where he wasn’t willing to help- more than some bosses will give you. I think he was diabetic and had other things before which didn’t help when he got it. It’s Chicago politics, so it’s a case of pick the least worst candidate. Many cops (myself included) regrettably picked Lori bc she said “a pension is a promise.” But if we split the vote (which is what will happen in NYC)- we will end up with 4 more years of Brandon. Honestly, it just feels like this city is done. Everywhere I look, it just feels tired.
