More Injuries
Four citations were written to a driver who allegedly ran a red light and hit a police squad car, injuring himself and two officers early Wednesday on the Southwest Side.
Around 4:30 a.m., a 51-year-old man driving north on California Avenue ran a red light and hit a marked squad car, traveling west on 51st Street, Chicago police said.
Both officers in the squad car were taken to an area hospital where they were in good condition, police said.
Is it just us or does it seem like a lot more crashes lately? Anyone have the yearly breakdown as compared to previous years, especially by watch since it seems midnights are catching a lot more accidents lately.

How dare these officers write citations!! It’s racist and against go’s !!!! It’s obviously not the public’s fault ! CPD is obviously to blame. Get the body cam footage and start by jamming up officers !!!

Are these crashes on north side or south side? Maybe then, we should increase red light and speed cameras on the northside. Dont want to be racist.

I've been doing this nonsense for 31 years. I still work the street. The driving by civilians is at an all time low. They don't stop, they drive on the shoulder, they drive in the bike line, and they drive on the sidewalk. They don't give a f#$! I have to swerve or make an emergency stop twice every shift to avoid getting hit. This is with keeping my head low on some days. Female 1's are hands down the worst of the group. They MF you no matter what. The rules don't apply to them under any circumstances. I'll stop there.

More crashed because the police are not stopping motorists and citing them. Therefore people feel like they can drive like assholes.

Let's install and permit more automated and distractive devices in vehicles and then refuse to cite and hold drivers responsible for their unlawful usage.
South Suburbs are awful as well. I've got two intersections where people crash so often you need a telethon-style board to watch the count go up. And the number of wiped-out utility or street light poles and traffic signals at those intersections is in double digits after just the last couple of years. Same for hitting parked vehicles (I can see the debris on the pavement) parallel-parked on main streets. Everybody is in a ghetto hurry, driving with blacked-out windows they can't see through (thanks IL legislature!), stoned, drunk, or stupid.

I worked the streets on mids for close to 15 years. Please try to slow down at intersections past 10pm. Even for 10-1's. It doesn't cost us that much time and you are no help if you never get there.
This has saved me 3 major accidents in my career.
At the end of the day, ghetto nonsense isn't worth a lifetime of pain.

Vehicle strikes bridge. Vehicle crashes into Maxwell Street deli. Truck overturns on 290 off ramp. Maybe it's time to acknowledge the obvious.
