Rehashing Morale
It sucks and has sucked for a long time - not much new here:
Former Chicago police officer Charles Walters says the department is in crisis due to what he calls a collapse in authority, surging crime and a lack of leadership from City Hall.
Walters, who spent more than two decades with the Chicago Police Department in patrol, gang units and seven years undercover in narcotics, said the department’s challenges begin at the top.
“The previous mayor (Lori Lightfoot) didn’t seem like they really had our back,” Walters told Chicago City Wire. “And this mayor (Brandon Johnson) really seems like he doesn’t have the back of the police. It starts there and trickles down to the superintendent. Then the fact that it took a lot of powers from us. We can’t do a lot of things we wanted to do, and the criminals know that.”
In our opinion, it's not that we couldn't do what we "wanted" to do - it was what we weren't permitted to do moving forward....like enforcing the Law. The rules of the job never bothered us, but the endless documentation did.
And then, how the documentation was used was our biggest complaint. It wasn't use to prosecute law breakers, it was used to screw law enforcers to the point continued employment, financial well being and actual freedom was at stake.
Once everyone saw that writing on the wall, disengagement became the only way forward in order to make it to the finish line, and Chicago citizens ended up paying a hefty price for electing "progressives" and other morons.
But we made it to the finish line with minimal damage.

The people will be fucked , and thereby the Department, for the next 50 years at a minimum, as long demoRats are voted in at the state and local levels. Welcome to hell and we still haven’t reached rock bottom.
Just left the local pub in the neighborhood. Can anyone tell me what the hell is Area 1 PRT? These officers were sharing stories that would captivate any Hollywood director’s attention. Videos, pictures, and stats were being shared all evening. I just don’t get it.
Progressing relentlessly to the edge of the cliff into the pit of the perfidities.

The war on drugs turned into the war on the police. When I first came on the job I was worried about getting killed, not getting stabbed in the back by my employer.

Earliest CPD has become a lucrative cash register for typical city workers who just show up o collect the heir check with little or no work provided.

As bad as it is here, I bet it is worse elsewhere. The only problem is how to raise the morale of ungrateful people. We all know people at work who have zero work ethic, that bitch and moan all day. This is the same person you would never want showing up to help your family if they needed the police. There is nothing you can do or say to ever change that person's morale.

A democratic run city will never have an effective police department. The entire department will be run with DEI as the core of everything, when that happens you don't get the best and most qualified, you get DEI. Yolanda Talley is second in command of CPD, that's all that needs to be said.
A bunch of kids running around thinking they are “the real police”.
Everyone has some dumb ass social media account and posts every damn thing they do on it. They watch their body cam videos from the day before, over and over again for the “spank bank”.
Out of the ten that were there, if you add 8 of their combined years, they still wouldn’t have enough time to retire.
After getting screwed out of a detective spot by some “merit” hack, I knew CPD was a phony outfit. At least I have no problem going to sleep at night.
All these retired bosses now come out of the wood work to voice their concerns about yada, yada, yada...
I always expected to be treated like shit by certain segments of our society but never did I imagine that we would be treated like shit by the department and the politicians. Thank god Jane Byrne came around when she did, can you imagine doing this same job for this department without the little protection that the union (fraternity) provides with the contract; Scary thought. Hey Larry-mister pushups gym instructor, fix the morale of this department before more officers commit suicide, we already have a 60% higher suicide rate than any other department nationally. And for the record, you ain’t shit compared to Gus Tero Tureaud

So how were you screwed? You didn't pass the test? You were a potential merit hack who wasn't chosen to be a merit hack?
The ones thinking about suicide should resign, move to a better climate and reinvent themselves. Life is short and precious, don’t waste it on CPD if life is not pleasant here.
No need for EAP..just move on to a better location living a wonderful life.

06:24:17: Aren’t you the sensitive one. You must be one of those merit hacks spoken of here, or maybe you are one of those who jumped the line over more qualified candidates in the hiring process and were given the job because you checked the right boxes in the demographics catagory.

Let me put this in its simplest terms for you, if there was no such thing as merit, I would have easily made it.
But I would never degrade myself to bow and kiss the ring for merit, or take it if offered.
Some people still have principles. I have no sleepless nights. Those who stole a spot through merit, if they have any shred of decency, have got to be thinking they really don’t measure up and it was given, not earned.
