Just a Reminder

Got this in an email:

  • In 2019, Pritzker said he wanted to "grow the economy" and it is his job to make us "hugely successful."

Under @JBPritzker, only public sector jobs have grown, economic growth has stagnated, and he has raised taxes $6.3 billion.

This is a record of failure. Pritzker's only success as governor is driving residents from Illinois.

We were passing through Indiana the other day and decided to fill up the car before crossing back into Fata$$-Land. the price of Gas in Indiana?

  •  $2.99 a gallon

We haven't seen it in Porky's Illinois for anything under $3.35 in months thanks to the recent tax increases. No wonder all our old southside friends are doing their shopping over the border for everything from groceries to gas to ammunition.

Look the new Indiana even North West Indiana the past five years or so isn’t the old Indiana back in the times of our parents and grandparents prime era , that stunk like rancid toxins and garbage . It’s cheap very affordable and everyone is way more polite it’s like living in the deep south without the constant swamp ass . And in Indiana you run from the po-po you will be chased , caught , arrested , and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law , and don’t you even think about battering or tormenting a officer . And as all the villages within Lake County IN said , hopping over back to the IL border after causing havoc in our towns wont work , you’ll be chased on 94 , 294 , it don’t matter you’ll be caught 9/10 times .

Fuck Gov lard and go to a good state if you can .

How about being fair with your stories once in a while and at least telling the entire truth. You enjoy 0% income tax on your pension and social security in Illinois. For most retired public workers that's worth over $5,000. So take your pick - $0.50 per gallon lower gas prices or $5,000 in your pocket.

I understand what you’re saying. Look at the big picture. Property taxes in WI are at least half of what you pay in Illinois and especially in Cook County and Chicago. Sales tax is 5%. There are no punitive fees nor extra fees for utility/consumer usage such as internet tax, cell iPhone tax, cable tax, you get the picture. I have looked at her number and over all even if I pay state income tax I come out ahead by thousands. Now look at the low crime, lower insurance rates, slower pace of life, better quality of life, better services such as garbage and snow plowing . Schools are good (still for now). No speed camera, no emissions tests, cheaper license plates, no city stickers. Overall it’s a better move to leave this state which is decaying at an advanced pace……

Moved to NW Indiana about 10 years ago from Cook County (wanted to reside outside of IL but the WI commute was just too far for me). This is true that it's definitely not the area of my youth! On Boy Scout trips to Mount Baldy way back when, I remember driving past what looked like a rank post-apocalyptic hellscape of oil refineries, flaming steel mills pouring columns of smoke into the air, and such a stench.

The refineries are still there in Whiting, and a couple steel mills still operate along the lakeshore. They've been forced to clean up quite a bit though by the Feds & EPA, can't lie about that as much as GOP hates the environmental regs. They're still in business, just not allowed to release so many toxins, and the difference within my own lifetime is MASSIVE.

Gas is routinely in the $2.90s, zero sales tax on groceries, everything else is 7.00%. That's not the best rate, but for example last year I dropped nearly $1,000 on building materials in Merrillville for a home repair project. Realized I saved about $40 right there by not buying the exact same items at the Menards in Cicero near my work (sales tax 10.75%). Enough for a tank of gas!

Great bakeries, pizza, burgers, fried fish, & (cheap!) beer out here, there's never any fights or blasting stereos on the beaches, which are also half-empty compared to Chicago's. Forested national park hiking trails totally free of litter. Deer & wild turkeys cutting through the yard. People love having a cop or trooper as a neighbor. Ammo is cheaper & no FOID/paper record needed.

And while it's true cops here will chase & catch suspects and never put up with abuse, the local police ETs or labs seem to be lacking - any murder not caught in the act or without the usual obvious Domestic angle just seems to go straight into the cold case file forever (not that many murders, especially compared to Chicago, so maybe they just don't get enough practice?).

E.g., never any leads on this one, which happened in the Gary neighborhood equivalent to Beverly, Mt Greenwood, or Edison Park, in an area packed with $700k homes a walk from the beach:

https://abc7chicago.com/post/gary-shooting-kills-woman-critically-injures-husband-north-warren-street-home-suspect-stole-vehicle-police-say/15677486/

That said, check out Valparaiso!
And avoid Michigan City - they've got a great brewery & restaurant, a local gun club nearby dating back 1935, but for some reason also seem to host a nest of meth addicted shitbirds who routinely get arrested everywhere else in the region.

When Pritzker came into office in 2019, the state budget was about $39 billion. In 2026, it is projected to be $55 billion. That's about a 40% increase in spending, and much of it going to schools. We have not seen a great return on that investment, have we?

So, by using your logic, those who receive pensions have lost their right to complain about high gas prices? Are you also forbidding those on food stamps from complaining about the quality of food they eat, or a parent who sends their child to public schools from complaining about the quality of education, or a senior citizen on Medicare from complaining about the quality of care they receive?

There is a tipping point. Maximum home value will go down after enough people leave. Companies are leaving Illinois and taking schools of employees with them. Interested buyers will be harder to come by. As the city raises taxes on residential properties, this will discourage new buyers from choosing Chicago. If you don't leave soon, don't expect a quick sale. My home in Edison Park took over a year to sell. And I had a great agent who got me more than my asking price. lol! FU Chicago!

"So take your pick - $0.50 per gallon lower gas prices or $5,000 in your pocket."

We moved from Will County, IL to our current home in the Hoosier State over eight years ago. When we left the property taxes for our house in Will County were $1,000/month, $12K/year. Our current property taxes are roughly less than 25% of that. On a larger house on a larger lot. A Zillow of our old house shows the taxes are $15K/year as of last year. So conservatively speaking, saving $8 - $9K a year for eight years put anywhere from $64 - $72K back in our pockets. Beats the crap out of $5K / year.
