ISP Chase, CPD Injured
An officer is recovering in the hospital and a suspect is in custody following a crash involving a stolen vehicle and a CPD squad car on the West Side early Saturday morning.
According to Illinois State Police troopers, it all began around 1:15 a.m. after troopers spotted a vehicle that had just been hijacked near West Ogden Avenue and West Polk Avenue, on the Near West Side.
Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver allegedly fled. Amid the flee attempt, troopers said three people allegedly got out of the car and ran away on foot.
CPD has a very limited chase policy along with a very limited foot chase policy:

- Shortly after the passengers fled, troopers said the driver of the vehicle allegedly crashed head-on into a CPD squad car near West Madison Street and North Pulaski Road in West Garfield Park.
Ouch.
Seems like everyone ended up in custody, although the Officer ended up in the hospital. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

CPD is cowardly. So don’t assist a state trooper working alone vs a car full of armed suspects…ya I’m sure that troopers family appreciates CPD pulling over waiting for their Sgt to show up while Daddy is fighting 3 armed shit birds.
That Training bulletin is very important. It should be read at roll call a few times a week. However, the Department has gone DEI in the last few years. It should be published in Spanish, French, Greek, Hindo, Portuguese, German, Latin,Russian, Arabic, Gaelic, Chinese, pig Latin,Korean, braille, in a video for the deaf, etc, etc.
The video for the deaf is the most needed, because these young officers just don’t listen.

No? It’s a carjacked vehicle. Great work by all. We have. Narrow pursuit policy but a carjacked vehicle is one you can chase for. Just make sure you are always evaluating and re balancing while in a pursuit. Great work ISP and CPD.

I heard the officer looked in bad shape...that is until he was brought into the ER, looked over and saw Brandon Johnson in the bed next to him hooked up to an oxygen tank clutching his chest and his latest approval ratings. The officer is doing much better.

In addition to CPD’s limited foot chase and vehicle pursuit policies , CPD also has a limited policy on doing legitimate police work. Bottom line is don’t do anything proactive and you won’t have to worry about out losing your job or freedom. Just show up and get paid. Period.

It’s not about whether you can chase or not…it is when to stop and terminate.
Chases rarely end with the offenders simply pulling over and exiting, whether to surrender or flee. Chases primarily end in some collision where Officers or innocent people can be injured or worse. If the offender(s) are killed during the pursuit, IRT and COPA are now investigating. I firmly believe that offenders need to be apprehended, but the way that things are with the politicians and media here, I would really evaluate the situation before pursuing.

We're at the point where it makes the most sense to just stop at every red light and stop sign on the way to jobs, drive with due regard for the safety of all Chicago citizens. I agree with the idea of chasing in this case, but the idea that you are going to be protected by following the balancing test is insane. The "test" is vague for a reason: so they can fuck you if it goes south. If you are going to be aggressive, hats off to you, but let's not pretend like Uncle Brandon isn't going to fuck you in a heartbeat if it looks bad.
My normal year usually consists of 5 mandatory domestic arrests and back up. That’s pretty much it. Absolutely no chasing, zero proactive policing, zero street stops. If a unsophisticated PO chases some ghetto mope and the mope crashes, the responsibility will land solely on the dummy LEO. That goes for CPD, ISP or burbs. Cowboy, you’re in COOK county, not Grudny or Dupage. The ghetto and liberal cook county jury will deprive you of your rights and assets before you even get a chance to request some lube.

Was wondering why the unmarked F-150 cowboys were all of the sudden quiet like church mice. Back in 2023 it was chaos on the zone every time the cowboys passed through the district. All of them, tunnel vision like a MF, auditory exclusion, zero control over emotions screaming on the radio requesting PH1 and a minute later asking for PH1 eta. It was quite entertaining actually. Best part is when district supervisors try to terminate the cowboys' chase and realize the cowboys just don't give a f- at all and continue until they wreck or kill someone.
