Is Illinois finally approaching "suddenly"?
Gov. JB Pritzker is directing state agencies to identify 4% spending cuts in next year’s budget, citing what he called "disastrous economic policies" by President Donald Trump.
Pritzker signed an executive order requiring agencies to outline reductions within 30 days.
The cuts could include nonessential purchases, operational expenses and nonessential travel.
"There are hundreds of millions of dollars that are going to have to be made up for as a result of the cuts the federal government is making, including in healthcare and nutritional assistance but also across the economy with the tariffs that are impacting businesses in Illinois," Pritzker said.
The governor said the 4% figure is only a starting point and warned that the state may face more severe budget challenges in the coming year.

When is someone in this shithole city going to realize the reason that is in financial decay is the vendors it hires. Chicago pays $20 for a gallon of bleach we can all purchase at $4. It’s like that across the board. For EVERYTHING. If it wasn’t so hard to FOIA anything in that city a price list of what is paid out to city vendors would be something to see. According to statistics from 2024 there were almost 11 million vehicles registered in Illinois. If, just an if, every registered vehicle bought 1 gallon of gas a day the $0.48 cent gas tax would equal about $5 million in tax a day. About $36 million a week, $1.1 billion a month and about $13 billion a year. Not all vehicles are going to get 1 gallon of gas a day but with a 20 gallon tank and you get 15 gallons …..and so on, along with travelers forced to fuel up the numbers kinda make some sense. Add in mowers, tractors, off road, boats etc and the numbers could make sense. Anyway there’s a lot of cash going into the stste budget from gas taxes alone and being wasted by the democrats

You can clearly see in the data that hiring and investment are slowing. Tariffs don't cause inflation but they do cause an increase in relative prices. For example, if you have $100 to spend and the price of beef increases you can pay the higher price and cut expenditures elsewhere or you can find substitutes for beef. You can't just inflate your income. You have $100 to spend. How the Fed reacts to the tariffs can cause inflation. Next, look at the government mandated operation of a steel plant in Illinois. The world has a surplus of steel production. Increasing production in American steel will just push the world price lower. However, the price of steel in America will remain very high because of tariffs and mandates. American firms that try to export any items that contain steel (or aluminum) will be unable to compete in world markets. Each job saved in the steel industry will cost Americans over $100,000. Then look at the auto industry. They are heavy consumers of steel. They will pass the increased cost of steel on to consumers making trucks and autos even more expensive. Demand for autos will fall as the price increases. If you buy a car you will need to cut spending elsewhere. Detroit builders will need to cut costs by reducing the workforce or reducing investment. Other industries will see demand drop because people who are spending more on autos will need to cut spending elsewhere. That means those industries will need to lower costs usually by cutting the workforce or reducing investment. In many cases they just close. Tariffs are bad. How does a recession occur? First slowly and then suddenly
Hmmmm, here in Indiana, under the same Trump policies, have a $2.5 Billion dollar surplus; same amount as 2023. State income taxes are set to be lowered over the next 2-4 years. That’s what Republican leadership can do.
