We've been doing a bit of driving lately:
- gas prices in suburban Costco were $2.92 the other day
- in Indiana, under $2.75 a gallon
- in Wisconsin, $2.54
- our Thanksgiving turkey - $0.60 per pound
- our Christmas ham - $0.59 per pound (spiral cut was $0.99)
And jobless claims just hit a three year low.
Things aren't perfect, but they're definitely looking better than last year.
Hell, the last few years.

Buc-ee's in Kentucky got gas for $2.22
Gas is $2.69 at my Walmart and the Delta Sonic I go to is at around the same... i like it but life's still expensive af even though i make almost 100k a year.
Lots of layoffs - I know many people affected by them. Then what these corporations do is hire former workers back or hire new under “contracts” with none of the benefits (sick time, health insurance) .
Illinois is like playing with cards building houses. Don’t bump the table.

Its O.K. Chicagoans have accepted the plastic Checkout Bag Tax because the bags end up in oceans and endanger aquatic wildlife. Remember for just 10 cents a plastic shopping bag ensures environmental justice. The store keeps a penny and 9 cents in remittance goes to the environmental conscious mayor and earth mother loving gang of 50 to spend as they please. And it saves our aquatic life and reduces the footprint in landfills! Just a minor cost of a dime. If its so dangerous why not legislate grocery bags out of existence with all the righteous power elected representatives wield. And let the working class keep their sweat earned 10 cents.
Speaking of driving around SCC your post last week regarding snowplows facing all these bike lanes and curb build outs was spot on. According to the new Inrix Global Traffic Scorecard Chicago is the worst U.S. city for gridlock. Not only that, we are third worst in the entire world behind Mexico City and Istanbul.
With these low prices aren't we due for an increase in the gas tax?

I actually have no problem with ban on plastic bags. They were everywhere - trees, my bushes, clogging up the storm sewers. Even if people weren’t being intentional jags, they’d just set sail and get away from any can they were thrown. As for bag tax, on those occasions I’ve not brought one into the store, never once paid for one and never been stopped and asked to pay.
Prices are dropping everywhere but in Chicago. Gas is $3.39 at Costco in the city.

I drive to the Costco in Mettawa its 20 minutes from OHare 7% tax and no liquor tax then on my return trip I go to the Woodmans in Buffalo Grove gas is under 3.00 dollars
