Good News, but....
Police deaths on the job fell 25% in 2025 to 111, an 80-year low not seen since World War II.
The number of law enforcement professionals nationwide who died in 2025 declined by a quarter compared to the same time period last year, according to preliminary data provided by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
The NLEOMF data shows that 111 federal, state, county, municipal, and U.S. Territories officers died in the line of duty in 2025. That's a 25% decrease compared to the 148 officers who died in 2024, according to the organization.
Part of this is undoubtedly better emergency medical treatment. It's a driving force behind less homicide fatalities over time.
Another part is less anti-police rhetoric being driven by democrats and the media. Americans generally like and appreciate safer communities and that means working with police.
But another part might be police disengagement, especially in blue-state blue-city $hitholes where homicides are down (reflecting a national trend) but property crimes and similar crimes are up. You have an entire generation of cops who have been ordered not to chase, not to confront, not to enforce wide swaths of the actual Law.
If that's what society wants....

Bad policy is going to bite Chicago in the @$$. Just give it time. Chicago Police Department lacks competent leadership. The next generation coming along are going to challenged like no other generation. I wish them my best. I have two years left to go.

Absolutely. It’s exactly what the people voted for. Especially hilarious in downtown at teen trends, or dirt bike caravans, people asking “aren’t you gonna do something about that?” Like what? This is what people voted for.. we can’t chase and even if we did the judicial system will release them anyway. Aside from occasional bonafide domestic or violent crime arrests this job is primarily a reporting and RD generating career. Haven’t heard this on the blog in a while - stay fetal.

Local police withdrawal and pacification is why, there is so much controversy behind federal immigration enforcement. They don't fuck around just like police 50 years ago didn't fuck around.
Perhaps a contributing factor is that young police officers are told by senior officers to not let the job become their identity.
Whatever the reason, it is good to hear.
Political parties, progressive socialists in particular as well as far-left democrats seem to want societal chaos in order to retain their relevancy, their power. To keep that power, they cannot have an armed citizenry, which is the reaction to their asinine policies and antics. This current chaos in Minneapolis is the very thing the democrats want to distract from a fraud investigation, and use as a springboard to prove how bad Trump is. It's the only play they got. And I think they are not going to get the mileage out of this as they did with the Floyd incident. America as a whole saw what they tried to do to change the country to their vision of utopia, and most of us ain't having it.

I think the decline is more preciptious than it appears. The US Population has increased from over 140 million in 1945 to over 330 million in 2020. I don't know how many police officers there were in 1945 (and I'm too lazy to google this information this morning) vs. how many there are in 2025, but my hypothesis is that there are many more today.
And, as other posters have noted, the increase in emergency care has to have had a positive impact on survival rates, not only for shootings but for line of duty auto accidents, etc.

When you have a mayor like BJ, who's only concern is to stay in power and push the black agenda, why would you do any police work? Why would you risk your life for an administration that would harm you for doing your job. Disengage and survive. CPS is the new mental health centers for Chicago. Have you ever met a cps teacher who seemed like they were playing with a full deck of cards? Most aren't even at the table. Ask any current of recent cps student to sign their name. They look at like you are speaking another language.
