Range Safety Issues

Nice to see this hasn't changed since we left:

  • SCC,

Yesterday I was at A/5 for combined weapons qual. During the taser portion, we had one of the new Taser T10 go down. Range people said this happens quite a bit, and 10 have already went down. We all laughed. Then, on the range the target controls were not working, requiring the range officers to walk down range between firing sessions to manually move targets between the various distance markers. On top of that, the exhaust system was inoperable, so there was noticeable guns smoke during our qual. All we could do was shake our heads.

Did anyone notify the FOP Safety Grievance committee?

A lot of people are going to get in trouble with these new tasers. They are way too complicated and you can accidentally re energize or re shoot probes out very easily under stress. The 10 minute training I did over a month ago I’ve already forgotten. And the 8 hour class I did over a year ago I’ve absolutely forgotten. I just know that every time you pull the trigger a new probe is fired.. a lot of people are going to mistakenly be firing multiple probes OR they won’t fire the 2nd probe because they have always just had to pull the trigger once.. most on this job crumple under minimal pressure.. think say watch.. hasn’t made an arrest in 6 months.. now has to use this thing…. It’s not going to be good.

These things were failing during the training for them. It’s just another axon product that axon will make millions from. Straight trash

FOP isn’t going to do anything for you unless you are connected. This is just the way it works. Only recourse you have is lead poisoning test. Recently promoted sergeant was out for 365 due to lead poisoning.

Exposure report for lead and contact OSHA at minimum what? Absolutely would not be laughing nor would I put up with that! So now the tasers don’t work and then what? Lawyer UP

They do not want us to shoot so no ammunition, no range and no time to qualify……for the law suit the city is not liable?

I've been a taser instructor for 6 years. Not a fan of taser 10. Already had an entire batch of dud training cartridges. Axon wanted to argue about free replacement. Not sure I trust the T10. Just remember, no tool works 100%. Always be ready to switch to oc, stick or pistol if that taser doesn't immediately down the perp.

The City spends 90 million or so on this shit building??? Sounds like the 19th district..they build a new station yrs ago and used the lockup for about a yr before closing it down due to plumbing issues..Again, a brand new building and plumbing issues that were never fixed, so just close the lock up?? Sounds like wasted taxpayer money to me. Sounds like the City gets the cheapest firms to build and where are the city inspectors to check up on the work???

Funny thing is AN FOP TRUSTEE WORKS AT RANGE. I wonder if he was scared to cause any waves in fear of losing his spot. MAYBE Kevin Graham can counsel the range staff.

Ray C ... sounds spot on (lun intended)
getting ready to retire (don't want no sudden cr's)
held a spot at fop some yrs ago & was a real fuckin jagoff while holding said position of vp at fop. Wouldn't help me because it would fuck up his cush spot as his regime was getting ready to be booked from fop.
Although, I will be grateful for a single piece of advice he once gave me and I have passed that advice on to many coppers and civilians alike

Got on the job in 86. Computers were just being installed in cars, only sector cars were getting them. No internet, usually VERY slow. Technology improved quickly. But not for CPD. The usual suspects got the contracts. Bought and installed cheap obsolete computers, then overcharged the city for them. Charged the city exhorbantly for service contracts. Took the money, then file for bankruptcy, leaving most of the computers inoperable when they broke down. The process would then be repeated, again and again..and again and again...

lol ooooohhh the teams don’t line up with the rotation!
The humanity of it all!
Surely this can’t be something that really bothers you. Typical coppers worrying about other people, why don’t you worry about yourself?

Loved all those building problems over the years I worked in 025.
Ejector pump switch broke, so they had an engineer pull a cord to cycle the pump. Place always smelled like a sewer.

The range has not been the same since Tony, Mike and Teddy left. Bring them back. And while you are at it, bring Joe Midona in and make him an instructor. He’s got the time and the experience. He’d be a huge plus.

I'm way more of a fan of Pepper spray than the T10. It is Karate and Judo in a small cannister. Also, less lethal on dude when he ingests two day's worth of crack and fentanyl just to avoid arrest.

025/A5 is a shithole, always has been. Citys too cheap to maintain a building. Upstairs always smells like piss, same with the basement.

Old X2 pushed 50,000 volts which was more than enough to overcome the resistance of clothing and skin if probes did not fully penetrate the skin. Hence why alligator clips worked for controlled tasing exposure. The new T10 produces 1000 volts. 1000v at skin contact can easily overcome the resistance of dry skin for an effective dry stun. So it leads me to believe the dry stun capability was removed intentionally to satisfy CPD's "no dry stun" policy and nothing more.

For all you coppers who say stop being a baby and just qualify, my dad died from led poisoning two years after retirement. Didn't get diagnosed till after he retired and it was too late to cure. My dad had a horrifying year and a half before he died and let me tell you, my dad was tough as nails. The city don't care too shits about you guys, protect yourselves and get tested. God Bless all of you, you are all heroes at the end of your shift everyday............

025/A5 is not a new building. It was built in early 1980s. Possibly on a burial ground, like the movie Poltergeist tho.
