Chicago heating bills could get even higher next year under a proposed rate hike from Peoples Gas that would increase the average household natural gas tab by up to $11 per month.
The city’s gas utility submitted a request to state regulators for the hefty rate hike on Monday, about two years after the Illinois Commerce Commission granted Peoples Gas a record-high $306 million rate increase. Under that decision, regulators ordered the utility to overhaul its controversial pipeline replacement program that ran far over budget and behind schedule for years.
The hike “reflects the mandate made last year” to wrap up the work by 2035, as well as “the impact of inflation on all aspects of infrastructure work, similar to other sectors of the economy,” according to Peoples Gas.
So after 2035, everyone will see a $11 per month rate cut since the work will be all done?
Hahahahaha....no, of course not. Because those numbers never go down - they'll think up something else so they can keep it all.

It’s disgusting. Illinois is a taxing disaster. We moved to a red county far outside Chicago but as soon as the kids get out of college we’re out of Illinois. We figure it will be nearly a $35,000 boost in income on all the tax savings. From property tax, income tax, sales taxes, utility tax, gas taxes and all the nickel and diming tax. Pritzker sucks!

Peoples Gas earned record profits in 2024, breaking its record for the 7th time in 8 years. Over $200 million last year alone. Yet they want to raise the rates again. AND we all know Illinois government will allow them to.

You'll see it for the first time when you move out of state. Then you will wonder why you stayed so long. The gas company lobbyists make sizable increases in your monthly gas bill possible by the power and distribution of their company's generous purse to utility commission representatives and democratically elected representative influencers. Gotta pay for the deadbeat leaches warmth somehow. Then the compassionate democrat politicians use your tax money and take credit to establish a "free" ILHEAP program paid with hidden taxes/fees on your bill for those chumps who regularly pay coupled with federal monies keeping their voting base warm and dependent all winter long.

Yep. Their plan of forcing electric vehicles on us and the making of their 15 minute cities has hit a snag. They couldn’t keep Trump out of office, so we are incurring the wrath of the leftist beasts. They will force the producers out of blue cities and states. Any tax breaks brought to us by Trump will be eaten up by blue states raising taxes, fees and other chicanery.
You should go over your policy with your agent. We have home and car with State Farm. Our agent actually reached out to us for a policy review. The wife and I went in and were able to keep the same coverage and dropped our monthly policy by 50 bucks. There are a lot of automatic increases put in on you homeowners every year that you may not need.
