How Bad is the SAFE-T Act?

Results are mixed, but some of the predicted results continue to this very day:

  • More than two years after Illinois eliminated cash bail under the SAFE-T Act, statewide crime data shows no increase in violent crime, but law enforcement leaders in rural parts of the state say the reform has created new public safety and addiction-treatment challenges that statistics alone do not capture.

The Illinois SAFE-T (Safety, Accountability, Fairness and Equity-Today) Act was passed in January 2021 and signed by Gov. JB Pritzker the following month. Its most controversial provision, the end of cash bail under the Pretrial Fairness Act, took effect Sept. 18, 2023, after the Illinois Supreme Court upheld the law’s constitutionality.

Supporters argued the reform would prevent low-risk defendants from being jailed simply because they could not afford bail. Opponents warned it would lead to repeat offenses, failures to appear in court and harm to victims of crime.

And if you skate over to the CWB blog, you can see weekly, sometimes daily reminders, of how repeat offenders are infesting the CTA with attacks ranging from batteries to robberies to lighting people on fire, not to mention over half of arrested shooters are either out on no-cash bail, parole or electronic monitoring.

That lone makes it a failure in terms of keeping Chicagons and Illinoians safe.

And as long as we have repeat offenders … we will have OT !! They really backed themselves into a corner lol silly Liberals if crime is so low and constantly going down it must be due to police presence!! Which means more OT lol. Just keep thoes OT checks coming !!

It keeps Pritzker's HomeBoys out of jail! I'm safer now than I have ever been. I now carry two guns at all times.

I’m told that the number of criminals with active warrants for failure to appear, that were released under Pritzker’s Unsafety Act, have gone up nearly 400%. Everyone knew these people weren’t going to return to court.

The defendant’s first missed court appearance results in a postcard being sent to the defendant’s last known address that is a reminder that he/she has missed a court date. This postcard gives them a new date to appear. If they do not appear at that second date then a warrant will be issued. Absolute joke!

The law itself is not the problem, the incompetent Madigan appointed judges who won't remand criminals to the jail are the problem!

If the act costs even one life of the marginalized community, shouldn't it be repealed? Its like the billionaire doesn't care about black and brown people.

What more effective means can there be, to provide the basis for federal interventions than those 'policies' so fervantly touted by the democrats?

These democrats, more than figuratively, bend themselves over, lift their skirts and spread their butt bubbles.

But so many are still focused on how any Jan 6 folks or people have gone on to commit a crime. All safe-t act criminals are swept aside but yeah, let's do a report on Jan 6ers. I'm looking at you WGN
