Pension Troubles?
Of course, the pension is always in trouble - it's run by democrats and their appointees, in a blue-state-blue-city shithole where promises are made and broken on a daily (Daley?) basis:
The alternative city budget muscled through the City Council over Mayor Brandon Johnson’s objections required the city to make the full $260 million advance pension payment to stave off another costly reduction in Chicago’s bond rating.
Late last week, the Johnson administration ignored that mandate and made a half-payment of $130 million and promised to pay the other half later this year.
Now, the renegade group of 32 alderpersons who rejected Johnson’s corporate head tax and seized control of a budget process are demanding to know why.
What do you call someone who defies the legislative body representing Chicagoans? Isn't that some sort of "king" or "dick-taker" or "asshole"?
That 6% is looking worse day by day.

At least it was sunny out today.
Why would anyone think a guy making over 200k who can’t pay his water bill or traffic tickets, do what he is supposed to do? People like him, even after they do well, always think their wants come first, f’k paying the bills on time. I’d like to know what this assholes credit rating is? It’s probably shit but I bet he’s never short on personal luxuries.
DROP Program!
Vote everyone of them out! They work for us!
They rather give our pension money to illegals and thug violence job handouts called;
Violent interrupters.
They are trying to defund our pensions in real time. We need to march if they don’t put our money in.
SCC, the OIG put out a report of city employees that were ineligible to receive overtime but cashed in. 72 are CFD. 53 are OEMC. 69 from Water Department, 308 from the Library! Even the librarians are in for the take in Chicago!
Have they even considered my idea of a go fund me account to help fund the pension?
Plenty of people with disposable income and either limited intelligence or a good heart and would want to help the police and fire out.
Only problem is keeping the dem-o-rats from stealing the $.
fuck you, pay me.
impeach the cone
I shall gladly not pay you for an obligation until later in the year, for, what now?
Oh yeah, the illusion of being smaaaaaart. Not like people say.
☹️☹️☹️
The city has become like a ghetto tenant, I haves half the rent and I'll gives the rest when I get my SSI check.
Can has been kicked as far as it can go. City has a cash flow issue, sounds like Detroit right before it went bankrupt.
Why does anyone even live in Chicago?
How is the city going to pay the 200 million in OT that it still owes us?
don't worry the city has plenty of fine investigative reporters working for their liberal media, they will be giving a thorough investigation into it ,,hahaha
Jawgrass Conehead will be long gone before the grim reaper comes for some scalps. Always plenty for his master, the CTU.
Typical Socialist. Do what they want without repercussions.
Knowing to pay your bills on time is white privilege, your credit rating is racist.
Retired....if I remember correctly when we won the pension funding case in federal court the courts said if the city of Chicago does not make their payments when due then any money coming from Washington D.C to Chicago for any programs like roads, bridges, infrastructure must first come off the top for the pension payment then the left over funds go back into the program. Someone correct me if I'm mistaken.
How much taxpayer money is going to Brandon’s felon/parolee/gangbanger/
Violence reduction/
Political army. That should be the first cut in the budget.
How can he ignore this? Can’t there be legal action taken?
Ghetto Shenanigans!
Someone needs to put a referendum on the ballot for a provision to remove a mayor. Who’s not living up to their job responsibilities. This may not help remove this mayor, but will hold future mayors accountable.
Pension holiday.
Pensions? Don't talk about pensions. You kidding me? Pensions? I just hope we can get another paycheck.
When all affected members have retired the issue will be null and void.
This incompetent broke ass mother fucking mental midget has bankrupted Chicago with his Sanctuary blue Shitty bull shit !
How about they give us the medical insurance after 29 years even if we are not 55 years old. Makes no sense somebody with 20 years on can get the medical just because they’re 55 years old. Some of us have to do 34 years just because we got on the job early in life. Talk about killing morale.
Grandkids
Been here all my 75 years of life. I just can't break-up with her now.
we could of stopped this years ago. But we do not stick together
I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.
Who said that?
There not simply said.
Have no idea Moved out years ago.
You got that right. This doesn’t sound good at all.
you can take it out of JRat's commissary at the MCC when he gets hooked up by the feds.
why do you live in Chicago?
SCC you are correct. Conehead is a king, dick-taker asshole. The question is will the next Mayor be any better?
Vote? The city has been dem forever. There's no one else to vote for. The dem party is top down, the top decides not you.
Old white people are the past. You can think still. Low IQ is the future.
OT - Looks like J. Green is gearing up for something. Not sure exactly what. His social media posts the past few days has him been appearing with Maria Pappas at a Greek New Year event and then with Maria Pappas, the plumbers for the St Patrick's Day Queen event. Maria Pappas obviously inviting him to both.
Let’s think out of the box. The Fund should hire some Somalians to find government money to funnel into the fund. I’m sure they would accept the challenge and would feel right at home in Brandon’s Chicago…….the greatest city in the world.
We all know what kind of rich that is don’t we.
Yeah I agree it’s like Helsinki syndrome.
In 2 years when the city will be paying the FLSA overtime lawsuit money to current and retired police, homeowners and residents WILL FLEE!!
They OWE US OVER $300 million dollars with 5% monthly interest!
Taxpayers are FUCKED !
This is from Pension Board Reps:
FUNDING - As of the December meeting, the Fund has received from the City $745,032,000 of the required payment of $929,066,000 for tax year 2024 (payment year 2025).
We should see the remaining $184,034,000 in the first quarter of 2026. If we do not, we will file to intercept state funds, but as stated before, I do not expect this to happen.
For tax year 2024 (payment year 2025), the City's required payment to the Fund will be $1,042,580,000. As of the most recent quarterly report, the market value of Fund assets totaled $3.653 billion.
I am happy to report that 2025 marked another year in which the Fund did not need to liquidate any assets in order to make annuity payments. The last time the Fund had to liquidate any assets to make annuity payments was January 2022.
Open up the tiff fund. They'll find the money
The City doesn’t have a money problem it has a spending problem ….
Pension is very overcast.
Never
DOGE, Audit the Chicago Police & firefighters Pension Fund.
Stop any and all proactive street policework if our Pension Fund isn’t funded properly. Just look the other way, as the bodies pile up.
Wimpy. Kinda like Snelling.
80% of retired CPD still live here. Parents are still alive, kids all live in area, you know the drill.
Remember Brandon is paying his violence reduction/felons/parolee/political army. So Yes, Brandon has the money.
I agree completely but good luck. When I brought this topic up at a meeting, JC told me it's a hard no per the city. Absolutely Non negotiable.
Stop talking about this you will not get a dime. City will never pay.
The officers working for the pension board do nothing to help us. Brian Wright is useless. All he does is his law work. We need people in these positions who actually do something.
I think that applied to the sales tax revenue that the city obtains from the state
Wimpy
Agreed, Mark Donahue sold everyone out that fits in this class with nothing in return. He forgave the city how many millions in pension payments to lower the retirement time on the job from 32 and a day with medical benefits to 29 and a day no medical benefits until 55 yoa. There should have been a larger pension percentage penalty if you retired before 29 and a day, even if you were 55 yoa. They always said this was because people who came on the job late were penalized because of the social security windfall provision. Well, that was reversed, so now what? Now, those people were allowed to retire before 29 and a day, get medical and get full social security benefits, but yet those who came on the job from age 21-25 get screwed because most won’t have enough social security credits to get social security and most will still have to work between 30-34 years just to get the medical with no other incentives such as any increases in pension percentages for having to stay longer.
Even though Jcat fits in this class and said he would fix it, he hasn’t done sh!t about it! After all, the FOP pays for his medical benefits since he retired, so why would he? He got his, screw everyone else!
I was a model employee right up to my 29 years then I became a problem employee. I’m late every day , not wearing proper uniforms, grew a unauthorized beard, still wear 5.11 pants, will wear my baseball hat with my leather jacket, abuse the medical, not show up for days off canceled(unless it’s an emergency) and only backup my coworkers but dog my jobs. I don’t care if I get suspended a couple days or so, it doesn’t effect when I can retire, I can afford to lose that money for my piece of mind. Now I know what it’s like to be a dog ass that I despised all these years. You know what, I have almost no stress since this transition, maybe the dog asses are on to something! That’s the type of employee they will get until I retire.
And, don’t get me started how they screwed the tier 2 people. And now I’m hearing the city wants to get rid of medical benefits for retires. Why would anyone take this job for the long haul? Sure the pay is good but a lot of good that pay you get now does when you retire and have to pay your medical until you turn Medicare age of 65. This place turned into a disaster quickly, but as long as they got theirs! What’s the saying, if they can’t eat, they will fck it, if they can’t fck it they will steal it, if they can’t steal it they will destroy it!
Democrats, destroying cities one at a time! When I retire I will have 34 years on the job at 55yoa
Wont work, to many idiots on this job that only care about themselves. They are too worried about their merit promotions or what unit or sweet spot they were promised to get in. These same idiots would work several months without a paycheck just for those promises that may or may not come to fruition. This is how merit promotions has broke camaraderie within the departments ranks. Everyone out for themselves!
You think they give a shit if we march? We have no political power in this city. They could not care less if we march. Gets nothing done, except get your steps in for the day. We don’t matter in this city.
The $ get grifted through the illegals. The illegals are just the crisis they throw $ and skim and grift billions. As long as there are democrats there will always be a crisis used to steal $. That’s alllll they do.
And who pray tell are you?
We should be getting it in the 2nd quarter of this year.
The only reason why I stay here is because the summers are amazing here.
I’m pretty sure you are never go to see it because the city has already spent the money.
Damn dude you ask in like half the posts.
Just call the union to get the accurate information, doesn’t seem like anyone here has an answer for ya.
When that was offered, it was offered to those closer to full retirement age, not to those with X number of years on the job. It was offered because the City wanted officers to retire: CPD had the highest average age of officers in the country. No one wanted to retire because of health care costs if they retired in their early 50s. They were staying on until their early to late 60s (back when the job was more tolerable). Because no one was retiring until they're 60s, the City was paying a whole lot of old timers who mostly did little (they had the wisdom of age) while getting paid a lot after 25, 30, 35 plus years on. To get more people to retire so the City could hire more younger, cheaper officers, health care was offered to those who retired at 55.
Does that make sense now?
Health care is offered at 55 not because of how many years you have on, it's offered to hold you over until medicare will take care of you. The City doesn't want to, nor cannot it afford to cover your health care from age 51 to 65.
How much does Brandon pay his non-licensed illegal hair dresser for the conehead special?
But the officer who retires at 55 with only 20 years is getting a much smaller pension than you are by retiring at 50 with 29 years. You could still pay health care and have more money left over.
If you haven't learned by now, the City doesn't care about your morale.
Why don't you retire before 55 and get another job that pays health care?
If you have 34 years on the job, are you still kicking in doors, chasing bad guys, writing parkers and movers, going to court, mentoring younger officers? Or did you bid to the slowest district where you work the desk? Or did you find a nice unit to hide in until retirement? In other words, is the City getting their money's worth out of you after your six step raises?
Anyone with 30 plus years who hasn't reached 55 and has poor morale should be given the medical insurance just so that we can stop hearing them whine about their poor morale.
If you don't laugh at work you will most certainly cry. And that's no good for your morale.
CHATGPT wrote it since the moron on the pension board is clueless.
They’re not!
Stockholm Syndrome not Helsinki. Am I the only one that noticed??
Yeah, wtf is up w the Drop program?? Did the union shit the bed on this entirely?? Cmon boys, make this shit happen!
Cal Gov Newscum.
Why don't you retire before 55 and get another job that pays health care?
1/24/2026 10:05:23 PM
Because then they would be stuck working until Medicare kicks in at 65 years old just for medical.
Why should you get rewarded for coming on at a younger age and staying longer? The insurance at 55 is an incentive to retire earlier, not a reward for years of service.
What will you say when the City wants to take health care away at 55 in order to get officers to stay on longer? They can negotiate that. That offer has only been around about 20 years maybe.
Sanctuary started under Rahm and continued under Lighfoot and Johnson. The only reason most people didn't pay attention at that point was because Texas waited too long to start shipping illegals to sanctuary cities. Had they done it sooner, maybe we wouldn't have gotten stuck with millions more. Illegal immigration has always affected us. People only pay attention when an issue is in their own back yard.
You know Ilhan Omar made a 3,600% increase in her personal wealth since coming over here as an illegal. Maybe she could share her economic acumen with our pension advisers….
If they take my pension. I take their souls
Legislatively its dead?
Hey SCC
How about a thread on the up coming annuitant Trustee position. Voting starts 29 January. Nearly everyone reading better be concerned about the fund's well being. There are two candidates m Gene Roy and Saul Del Rivero. I believe Roy is the better choice IMHO. Let have a discussion on the blog.
Wow. You came on at 21 and cry because you have to work 30-34 years? Tell that to the rest of the labor force who have to work into their 60s.
You sound like someone who cries for having to pay half price when everyone else pays full price.
Is there any other police department in the country that offers this? We are lucky.
I'm hearng Gene Roy was a pension trustee from 2001 - 2005, the funding went from 70% all the way down to 50%!! We need someone new there, not the person who has already proven to be a total failure protecting our pension. Saul Del Rivero is definitely the better choice.

Why would he be a better choice. Exempts don’t care about us. What they get religion after they retire
You don’t really believe that. No one wants to donate to out pension. They envy that we get a good pension When I hear that from neighbors and people on social media I tell them to take the test. They are begging for applicants. Then I get all the excuses, Bad hours, can’t work weekends need a summer vacation, etc
Why would anyone vote for Roy?
He’s a gold-braid pensioner who’s already done very well financially. How does that represent the average retiree? When he served as trustee before, what did retirees actually gain? He’s also on a DO NOT HIRE BACK LIST.
Compare resumes.
Saul Del Rivero has education and credentials that matter when managing pension finances. Roy has no higher education beyond high school.
Titles don’t save pensions. Competence does.
Press 1 for your new trustee: Saul Del Rivero.
Gene Roy touts his record as pension fund trustee from 2001-2005. Here is the funding record:
2001 71% funded
2005 51%funded
A LOSS of 20% of funding on his watch as pension trustee! The pension can't afford another Gene Roy term!
Maybe he’s trying to beat his record and lose more of our pension money
There’s a lot of new officers doing that already and it’s not because of the pension fund
