Broad daylight, directly in front of six cops:
A judge on Friday detained two men after prosecutors said they shot and killed respected West Side businessman Jerry Lewis in front of six Chicago police officers.
The officers were traveling in two unmarked cars in the 2100 block of West Madison Street on Tuesday afternoon when they saw Nassie Mason, 28, and Erving Harris, 31, step out of a parked Honda wearing masks and latex gloves, and holding guns, Assistant State’s Attorney Mike Pekara said.
As the officers were getting out of their vehicles to confront the men, they saw Mason and Harris murder Lewis as he began to enter one of his businesses, according to Pekara. After the shooting, Mason and Harris turned to run away and found themselves face-to-face with six armed cops ordering them to drop their weapons.
Mason allegedly tried to re-rack his firearm but was unsuccessful. He dropped the gun and ran, but was taken into custody just feet from where he had been standing. Harris took a few steps toward the Honda before dropping his gun, raising his hands, and surrendering.
An amazing bit of restraint not to kill both of these murderers on the spot once they turned still holding the guns. This could have been very very bad.
The judge actually held them without bond - a SAFE-T Act miracle.
Nice arrest and no one is driving a desk for the next thirty days. Count your blessings and go buy a lottery ticket.

Everyone hates an Armchair QB, but if this scenario went down exactly as written, I’ll be the first to say that I don’t ever want to work with any of these six tactical heroes. Some of these guys have allowed the fear of stepping into a grey area to supersede common sense and self-preservation.
On-view a murder and the offender(s) turn towards the officers with weapon(s) in hand and both motherfuckers hit lockup none the worse for wear? That hesitation is gonna get one of us killed. As restrictive as our UOF Policy has become, some of these guys seem to have completely forgotten about deadly force.
Now let’s hear about how “you weren’t there”, “the backdrop prevented me from firing”, “the gun wasn’t a threat while he was racking the slide”, “there were six of us and only two of them” etcetera, etcetera…

It would have been the shootout at the Ok Corral all over again, but for the fact the mutts gave up, even though one attempted to exit stage right. Based on the judge deciding to hold the garbage,8 he might be one to vote for if he’s up for retention.

Maybe too much restraint. Let’s be honest, the CCSAO will give these two some sort of plea deal. Maybe 25 years for a murder and the response will be they have to serve 100% of the sentence. Murder should be an automatic life sentence . Too many of these murderers get these sweet deals and are out and are still young enough to enjoy a good portion of their life.

We already know how the media would’ve portrayed it “6 cops fired 85 times killing 2 young black men who witnesses say complied with their orders” and the department would’ve backed the medias play because the department hates us just as much. And you can say fuck that it’s all bullshit protect yourself, and again, you wouldn’t be wrong, but how much risk are you willing to take so people aren’t showing up at your elderly parents house and harassing them, at your house, child’s school, and then to ultimately be fired anyways. Unfortunately officers will be murdered because of the insane training. Only CPD tho, every other department is trained properly and would have shot the offender. So why even engage if the task cannot lawfully be completed. Drive past and wait to be dispatched.

A couple of things from a non police officer. It seems that if an officer saves a baby from drowning or stops a car jacking 60% of this blog has something negative to say. The officers were either too young or too old. They have a Rabbi somewhere watching out for them. You guys (and gals) in blue are all each of have. Walking around pissing in other cops mouths doesn't seem to make sense. Ok there are 7000, 8600, or whatever the real number is of officers. There is no way you could love, like them all. Oh but I was. Twice in 28 years on the job. And I handled business PROPERLY both time. I didn’t wait til they fired on me first.
