So Aldercreature Lopez again tried to hold parents responsible for crimes committed by their kids:
Three months ago, Southwest Side Ald. Ray Lopez (15th) tried to hold Chicago parents accountable for curfew violations, street racing, and drug, alcohol and firearms offenses committed by their children.
His attempt to use parental responsibility to, as he put it, “create better parents” was shot down by a City Council committee — even after Lopez offered to entertain amendments that would have softened the potential legal blow to parents and legal guardians.
The debate showcased the Council’s political divide. Conservative alderpersons, who are among the police union’s staunchest supporters, want to get tougher on crime. Democratic socialists and other progressives seem more, or at least equally, concerned about preserving individual rights.
Um, there is no "right" to commit crimes, take over streets, disobey traffic laws, etc.

A couple interesting votes there, especially in Wards where a large number of police, fire fighters and city workers live. Everyone knows why the commies and race-baiters voted no, but why did the others vote no?

Imagine the tangled paperwork of where these teenagers “stay” and where they actually “live” who actually has custody who is legally a parent since they all have different last names. It’s a waste. The guy is the typical Irish Democrat, and he has sympathy for the the criminals in other communities, but does nothing to help the people who foolishly elect him every time election time comes up for him. Alderman Ray Lopez has always been a master at the art of political theater. He is brilliant at grandstanding. In all honesty this accomplishes nothing. How about give us our powers back? Change the fucking use of force policy? Start slapping felony charges with prison time for juveniles.
I also met this tool at his office and asked if he is so pro police than why hasn't he made any public statements in support of funding our pension? He actually got angry at me. The next time you see him and any of the pro police Alderman, ask them about why they say nothing and do nothing about our underfunded pension.
Why not O’Shea? Because all the catholic school cops’ kids that destroy the neighborhood parks in Beverly and Mt Greenwood with their underage drinking are above the law. Their parents would have a hissy fit if you tried to hold them accountable.
While I totally agree that parents should be held responsible for these behaviors, charging them money does not add up as many are living

Las Vegas has started crushing vehicles seized during street 'take overs'. Local news stations showed a couple cars being turned into scrap metal using a giant crusher then a large shredder. Small pieces were then given to city council members. Probably going to be mounted on their office walls.

Why should parents be responsible? When juveniles are arrested for felonies, the parents don't even bother to show up to court. Why should they? They housing is paid, daycare/babysitting service rights for the unemployed guardian/parent so you can live life without traditional parental obligations, school supplies are provided at no cost, free healthcare/dental with no co-pays are provided, public defenders/social workers/ probation agents don't cost anything, meals at school provided so no need to pack brown bag lunches and SSI/LINK/WIC/SNAP/LHEAP/SOCIAL SECURITY arrive pretty regularly with little or no questions asked. Why get involved in your child as a parent when government has your back on the backs of the privileged hard working 9 to 5ers. And the city supervisors seem to advocate for anti-social behavior without consequences at the expense of the decent people.
Maybe the public school conglomerates should add civics and morality instruction in their current curriculum much like DEI forced brainwashing.

If the juvenile courts would actualy do something when CPD arrested juveniles we wouldnt be fishing for a way out of the teen takeover trend. They tried this about 10 years ago. It was scrapped. No parents admitted they knew their kids were involved in curfew or criminal violations. Can’t write the ticket. If the few that actually did write the ticket went to the municipal hearing it was thrown out. Not 1 single parent ever faced a fine when we tried it for curfew. You can’t prove the parent had anything to do with a kid not coming home. The parent would say they were supposed to be in the house at 10… boom. Nothing I can do to them for the decision a kid made. Zero fines were given. This is another ray Lopez show to get himself back infront of cameras. This would have done nothing EXCEPT caused more headaches for us in the street which Ray doesn’t care about.. he just wants his sound bite.

Higher standards of behavior result in better communities. Lower standards result in crap communities.
When communities police themselves and their children, there are less police around to address small things like teenagers drinking and littering in the park. Englewood would have less police if they took care of themselves. Their standards for acceptable behavior is reflected in their crime rates and thus the high volume of policing there.
