A Year??

Actually, over fourteen months:

  • A police oversight agency has cleared a Chicago police officer who exchanged gunfire with car burglars who opened fire on him during a confrontation outside his West Lawn home last year, according to newly released records. Two juveniles were later arrested, but neither was charged with shooting at the off-duty cop.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability, COPA, concluded the off-duty officer acted within CPD policy when he fired a single shot after one of four people breaking into vehicles outside his home shot him in the ear during the April 28, 2025, encounter in the 3700 block of West 67th Place. The agency found the officer faced an “imminent threat of death or great bodily harm” and that his response was “objectively reasonable.”

They knew that within the first hour of responding to the scene - he was bleeding from a gunshot wound and all the evidence pointed to his being shot and returning fire.

And it still took these incompetent morons a year?

Having this hanging over your head, your career, your future undoubtedly contributes massively to stress.

And it probably contributes massively to realizing disengagement is likely the best course of action from that point forward.

Thing that gets me with all these never ending COPA “investigations.” What is the purpose of waiting basically 1-4yrs? They aren’t waiting on lab results or toxicology. They aren’t exactly waiting on tower dumps or cell phone warrants. This case was straight forward from the get go. Gang of Mutts tried hijacking his vehicle, they shot him, he shot back. What exactly takes a year here to figure out? Just like the one the other day. Idiot attempts robbery, attempts to disarm Officer, gets shot… and that’s took 3.5yrs. It’s an absolute joke and shows how useless they are.

copa was done with that investigation real fast, but just like all their investigations they have to prolong it to make it look like they are doing a thorough investigation, after all if they finish it fast then what will they be doing in between shootings?

Maybe not in this instance but I think they slow walk waiting to see if other people jump on the bandwagon with prior incidents or allegations to muddy the water

It took these assholes a year , because they were trying to find any type of infraction to hang him on , so they could sustain some bull shit charge. Fuck COPA and fuck CPD. This job has taken a shit and it’s never coming back.

The Tillman shooting in St.Louis area took the former St Louis County Persecuting Attorney Wesley “I Need To Charge A Cop” Bell 18 months before he finally cleared the officer. They knew it was justified in the first 20 minutes as it was caught on video via patrol car camera system.

Gotta keep those paychecks coming in, so defray, delay, re-examine, and drag it out so it looks like you are working real hard to make that money taxpayers be paying you. How many COPA-ites are employed? Are they on 9-5’s? Mon-Fri? 40 hours a week? Salaried? Paid overtime? Enquiring minds would like to know.

C0PA in inept at best and malicious at worst. Fuck those police-hating jerkoffs.

Their existence makes zero sense. In any other profession for any investigation, they have others who KNOW the profession, not what's seen on TV or the Hallmark Channel.

Military - Military Tribunal composed of other military members.
Attorneys - ARDC composed of other attorneys
Doctors - Medical Review Board composed of other doctors

C0PA is nothing more than a political kangaroo court. Nothing more.

It can't be stated enough.
Fuck
C0PA

I sincerely hope everyone currently stuck in limbo due to waiting for arbitration are made whole and restored by the time the assholes at the city are ready to begin. Years and years in limbo for bullshit. Justice delayed is justice denied.

Sometimes the situation falls in our lap and we must be ready to act. Rialmo did not ask respond to a domestic. Van Dyke did not ask to respond to person with a knife call. One cannot not respond when their fellow officers are going and might need some help. It isn’t about being proactive but rather for fellow coppers’ safety.

Just goes to show you, this is as clean as shooting u could ever get into and they still took a year looking for any way to jam this poor copper up. Now, just imagine u get into a shooting and it’s even a little iffy? You are absolutely fucked. Why would anyone risk that? Just answer your calls, do what’s required and go home. These people still out there stopping a million cars and chasing air bag thieves are out of their minds. I truly believe that. You are insane and glutton for punishment.

I wonder could C.O.P.A s investigators be committing wage theft? Easy cases like this should be done in 72 hours. Anybody checking the overtime? FOIA request would be interesting since Copa is all about transparency and putting officer face all over internet with full names. Keep in mind the victim officers has no rights about their image being put online.

You give these Fuckheads too much credit. Working hours??? Days conducting investigations that turn into years on a case that should take 1-2 days at the most. They are untrained political hacks that have no experience other than hating the police. They never have to justify their existence or time spent on a job. I could imagine a 1-2 year street cop in a busy district could stupefy one of these clowns on how to investigate a crime. Could be sooner, but you need court experience to overload their brains.

As for this issue, the officer was protecting his own property, most of you accuse him of being stupid and pro-active. What the fuck are you all thinking? Just remember that you have partners working and they would come to your aid without hesitation. If you can't do that, QUIT! they don't need your dead asses on the job. You talk about the "old days" and the "old guys", with distain. In the TF/SOG days if you called for an assist to drive a prisoner or offender's car, you would get 6-7 cars that would respond. Yes, we took ur partners and other coppers requests immediately. Not heroes, but we respected each other.

You must be new to the job.... you will get it sooner or later ..

The DEI COPA Administrator, Lakenya White, needs to go. She can take Joshua Hunt and Angela Snell with her. Putting an officer who had a clean shoot in callback for a year is evil. This case should have been closed in less than a week.
